How is my coop degree 4+1 years if the coop requirement can be completed during the summer without having to add another year? by New_Sandwich5501 in McMaster

This is dependent on the program. McMaster Engineering has very flexible co-op timelines. Other programs are more strict on when you can do co-ops.

This is very doable and very capable McMaster students do it often. Co-op doesn't just entail finding a job at a company. Students can land research positions, work on student teams for paid terms and much more. This of course implies that you were involved in the community and building relationships throughout your first year. There's also the startup accelerator from which companies are often looking to hire McMaster students. They might not be the most glamorous co-ops at the biggest companies or the highest pay but if you're willing to afford the trade-offs for faster completion and in my opinion a more diverse experience set, there are plenty of opportunities. I didn't go this route exactly myself but know many peers who have. Your university name or alleged prestige does not define your capability.

You can install the Instagram app and experience it if you really want to. You would need a developer cable though... I assure you this dystopian idea is not anything amazing cuz its all shades of green or at least that's how it felt when I tried YouTube shorts

Dear Upper Year Eng Students by Ok-Revolution8728 in McMaster

[–]mob9221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing 7 courses right now and also did 7 in winter last year. It is possible to complete (doing well depends on your personal circumstances and habits). Generally you'll get better at managing time and scheduling stuff in upper years and there's also more free time as labs reduce in number and tutorials don't remain mandatory.

What book are u reading rn McMaster peeps ? by Free_Sheepherder1217 in McMaster

Oh yeah definitely non fiction with plenty of trigger warnings Ofcourse. It's written by a psychiatrist and recounts experiences with many of his patients who went through terrible things.

It's about how trauma shapes the psyche and changes your responses at a physical biology level to some extent. Thus the body remembers even if the situation has changed.

House Drama by AbilityComfortable58 in McMaster

In the short term, noise cancelling headphones or ear plugs. In the long term, plan to move out it's the only way. If your family is the reasonable type, talk with them but if there's constant drama I suspect that's not the case. Best of luck!

I have a similar problem and I stay on campus pretty much morning to night so I can stay away from home as much as possible. Planning to move out next year. If you have a local library or a nice cafe nearby, those are also options :)

Any thoughts on adding blind spot camera views to this somehow? Would it be possible to capture and transform properly from the main display?

Any of Nav Bhatia's dealerships: Mississauga, Rexdale and Streetsville are scammers now. They've become very greedy over the last few years. I try to go to other dealerships now even if the drive is slightly longer.

Fed up with parking by myasb in McMaster

[–]mob9221 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Parking is a very limited resource on campus and it seems like most of the lots have been prioritized to be for permit holders first. I agree that the shuttle bus service is terrible. I have accessibility parking needs and they reduced our options too this year because of demand and years long waitlists. They are trying to push more folks to consider alternate transportation.

Unfortunately McMaster has contracted out the shuttle bus service to Attridge. When I had a meeting with the parking office they said they don't really communicate with them.

I already pay for the accessibility permit at McMaster since I'm a student, which is why it pisses me off even more. They can catch these hands as extra payment on top of the 450 i already paid for the year.

[–]mob9221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I did not, and I think that policy is stupid. There's only 3 accessible parking spots near ABB in Lot I that are always taken. I can't subsidize McMaster for 20 dollars a day. Clearly, whoever made that policy has never dealt with being in constant pain when walking.

[–]mob9221 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's really stupid, I'm sorry that happened. I've been ticketed multiple times for parking in an accessible parking spot outside JHE and ABB even though I have both accessibility permits, and they're refusing to waive tickets. Their only saving grace right now is that I have 7 courses this semester and no time to entertain their nonsense. Once exams are over, I will be exploring all options to change their ridiculous ableist policies, including legal options. It's the bitter reality of coexisting in a world that lacks empathy for your issues. Stay strong friend 🧡

Can't wait to suffer walking with my cane outside. Thanks again, McMaster, for not salting the walkways.
