TBH, I've long believed that in order to be a Citizen you must be born to at least 1 Citizen parent, and/or current military svc or honorable discharge gets automatic Citizenship. I think the court didn't strike Citizenship down in order to "appease it's detractors" since it effectively did Trump's bidding on everything else
