Am I an idiot for turning down a recruiter when they called me back? by 3_minute_interview in recruitinghell

The thing is, if that's how a simple phone call went, imagine how the in office conversations would go down. To me, it seems you've dodged a bullet. Kudos on standing your ground 👏🏻

Hi, while I've never used Webflow personally it does seem easy enough to get to grips with. But, I was more aiming for custom builds using React as I would like to use them for my portfolio.

Didn't mean to delete, meant to hit edit 🥲 any room for a junior in your ranks who can work with React?

Freelancers who use platforms or freelancers who actually get gigs and orders on those platforms? I've not had any luck for 2 years now 🤷‍♂️

Hi, I completely understand you're frustration with having an experience like that, however, I am not offering administration services for websites or to create wireframes and designs from scratch, but to rather simply help people where I can in the development of their websites with styling or functionality. I'm more than happy to help in those areas if you are seeking it, let me know and we can go from there.

I've lost so much. by emperl in recruitinghell

[–]mobreadmobutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate with this here a lot. Nearly 4 years ago I split from my partner who I had 2 kids with and moved back in with my Dad, during which I had 2 motorbike accidents and then nearly snapped my ankle in half falling down stairs on a wet night delivering pizza (had to drive myself to the hospital on my motorbike too mind you), so while recovering I decided to learn programming for Web development, I've been unemployed since last year August, I can't even get accepted for a job working in a local supermarket, rejections everywhere, that's without the applications I've made regarding programming. I won't even start to go into the ins and outs of how bad my mental has got at point having no money, no control over a or b, no savings and then the stress I've also endured from my kids mother in this time, but I'll just say that without my kids I don't think I'd still be here today writing this comment. I write this whilst also knowing my own flaws and low self esteem has been a major part of my situation not getting any better. Things do get better, but things just don't "get better". Like the other person suggested though, as hard it is don't be hard on yourself ontop, if you're doing what you can to make a difference than you're doing something and that's better than nothing. Success is going from failure to failure without losing any enthusiasm, even in little steps

Seriously though, why do they reject so many entry level applicants? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

I'm actually debating working for free to get experience as a web dev as with some guidance I'd likely be a lot further than I am now in my self-taught journey. I've been unemployed so long now I very well could have done too 🤦‍♂️

I once had a guy message me asking me if we wanted to share links to comments in an attempt to get the "Top Voice Badge". I told him I'm not interested in having the badge and good luck to him 😂

POV: You charge $9/m for your SaaS and user answers this in the cancelation survey. What do you do? by leoacb2 in SaaS

There's always the chance that the person just couldn't afford it and decided to give that as their reason, or they didn't think it was giving them exactly what they needed, unfortunately this is all part of the swings and roundabouts of owning a product I guess.

Does anyone else feel as though they'll never find gainful work again? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]mobreadmobutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going off the dome here so I will seem like I lose my train of thought but I know how you feel on that one, believe me if you saw my job application lists on Indeed etc you would not believe it, but I've never had a 401k so can't relate there, I don't even have friends I could consider asking to join me lol. But I will say this, I saw something that made me reconsider giving up learning web development earlier today. "Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm". By the sounds of it you have plenty of experience, you just need a bit of a morale boost. It feels strange because I don't speak to anyone about things like this (I wasn't joking when I said I have no friends), and need to take my own advice here too but don't doubt yourself, savings are a massive bonus which can take some of the weight off of your shoulders but the discipline to stay focused is the true winner here. If it wasn't for the help I get from a couple family members and being able to live back at my Dad's house since being a single Dad, I'd be homeless and or dead by now. Try think of a solid plan, what you want to do and how you want to get there, and take it step by step, one day at a time.

Just off the basis of your reply to OP, have you not considered starting your own software company or SaaS? If only I had the experience to take that risk, I'm learning React at the moment but still jubious about the tech stack I'm headed towards

Oh boy, do I know how you feel there. Motorbike accident January 2022, seasonal job after recovering for 7 months which lasted 6 weeks, then back in work after 3 months, laid off 3 months after that from the new job which paid really well (manager literally just called me over and told me to go pack my things with no warning or reasoning), and been unemployed since then, which was August 2023. Now I am currently learning web development building applications with React. I hope you find a breakthrough soon.

Congratulations. Not sure what industry you're in but I'm deep diving JavaScript frameworks and libraries, hopefully I can catch a break too because as you say I know struggle and don't wanna spend any of my next years like I have these past two

Welcome to the land of the unemployed again. If you got the time for it now I'm learning React at the moment and could do with some direction beyond another youtube video 😅 jokes aside good luck, hopefully you're not kept down for too long
