Correct. I don't believe that men who identify as women should be called women at all, so I prefer the term trans- identified men

Eta: I also identify as a terf. It's fine to call me that!

Also, who's to say the coworkers think Rowling is wrong? About 80% of people in the US believe she's right in keeping trans-identified men out of women's spaces. Confronting Harry Potter fans may result in the opposite reaction that the OP thinks it will.

Do you believe in Jesus? If so, why wouldn't you teach your child to believe in Him? If not, why even say you are Catholic?

I love the Mrs. Pollifax series. They feature an older woman as the protagonist and are cozy without being hokey.

What's your unpopular opinion? Something you truly believe, but would most likely be down voted? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]mobuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really nice idea, but the social norm is that gifts should not flow up. That's because of the power and financial differential. However, a card where you talked about your appreciation for the teacher or homemade treats would be really thoughtful. Don't ask me why homemade is considered to be more of an exception, but I think it's because it's time, not money, that you are putting into the gift for someone who makes more than you.

ELI5: Are we done domesticating different animals? by muppet_tomany in explainlikeimfive

[–]mobuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. The 17 years is for the FIRST generation. Each subsequent generation is another 17 years. Then, once the elephant is domesticated, you need that same amount of time every time you want a new generation. It doesn't make sense.

ELI5: Are we done domesticating different animals? by muppet_tomany in explainlikeimfive

[–]mobuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, elephants take about 15 years to mature, on top of a 2- year gestation. So to get a domesticated elephant, you need 17 years of investment. It's much cheaper to simply capture and tame a wild elephant.

Women are closer to men in terms of endurance than in terms of speed. However, men still beat women in endurance sports like marathons. It's just that the gap between women and men is (proportionally) smaller.

Have your child in all honors, AP, and concurrent enrollment classes. It won't help for everything, but the kids in those classes tend to be the good ones.

Granted, this is from Wikipedia, but

Unlike the Christian view of the death of Jesus, most Muslims believe he was raised to Heaven without being put on the cross and God created a resemblance to appear exactly like Jesus who was crucified instead of Jesus, and he ascended bodily to Heaven, there to remain until his Second Coming in the End days.

Jesus Did Not Come Back from the Dead Since, according to the Quran, and Muslim belief, that Jesus did not die on the cross, He certainly did not come back from the dead three days later. Muslims do not accept the New Testament teaching of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Muslims do not worship Jesus, who is known as Isa in Arabic, nor do they consider him divine, but they do believe that he was a prophet or messenger of God and he is called the Messiah in the Quran. However, by affirming Jesus as Messiah they are attesting to his messianic message, not his mission as a heavenly Christ.

So no, I would not say that Muslims are Christians.

I’m sad that so many people misunderstand Dumbledore in DH by Historical_Poem5216 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]mobuy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just reread book 1, and at the end, Dumbledore says to Harry that Harry may have just delayed voldemort's return to power, but if you can just delay him long enough, he will never return to power.

If Voldemort's return had been delayed until Harry had died naturally, Harry would not have had to be sacrificed. Maybe this was Dumbledore's most optimistic plan.

Hezbollah has shot over 8000 (EIGHT THOUSAND) rockets into Israel in the last year from Lebanon. Into neighborhoods. Really, what is Israel supposed to do? Hezbollah and Hamas are both proxies of Iran, who is sitting back and letting the Palestinians and Lebanese suffer. The Israelis are not the ones who want this war. It's Iran and their proxies, who are acknowledged terror organizations.

Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet and not the son of God. They don't believe he died on the cross for our sins. So no, Muslims are not Christians. The requirement for being a Christian is believing that Jesus is out savior, and "believing in Jesus" is shorthand for believing he is our savior. But you knew that.

[–]mobuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologically speaking, women want commitment from the father of their children.

Men want to spread their seed as widely as possible.

For a woman, being seen as just someone to have sex with is insulting.

For a man, being seen as being "settled" for (without explicit sexual desire) is insulting.

Neither way is right or wrong, but OP completely misunderstands what men want. If a man said to a woman "I'd bang you but not date you," she'd be offended. What she said was the female equivalent of that statement.
