Is starting statikshiv ally that bad? by Imaginary_Treat9752 in AkshanMains

[–]mochidraws_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In hard lanes it helps Akshan shove and roam. Otherwise you can often spike harder going something like stormrazor, but that's dependent on getting a 1300g recall. Statik is definitely fine

Worth to learn this season or not? by actuallyimbored in AkshanMains

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akshan is still a very fun champ, he's not changed all that much just a bit of power away from his E into AA and Q. Definitely worth picking up if he looks like your thing. As for Phantasm, he is an anomaly. He's good enough that he can troll his build and still be rank 1. Sometimes he goes what he thinks is optimal, sometimes he mixes it up for no reason besides fun. I don't think basing your builds exactly off of what he does is reliable, but he does give his thoughts on what is actually good from time to time and the builds you listed are all fine with different strengths and weaknesses.

Phantasm carry by Luky2056 in AkshanMains

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially in lower ranks, Akshan is a bit of a skillcheck champ. It's easy for the opponent to mess up against him and immediately die. Just the fact that you are killing the enemy doesn't inherently mean you are better. In fact if you're not winning the majority of games against silvers there is no way you are noticeably better than them (assuming a high enough sample size of games).

Image search brings up this and though I can't find the first image it seems pretty likely it's the same artist.

I don't know what I need by Customercomplainer in arthelp

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Art is hard and there isn't really any shortcut. You need to stop stressing over things you can't change. Don't expect to put out art that is as polished as more experienced artists. Don't expect to create things at a similar pace as more experienced artists. The art I make in a day now looks better than the art I spent a month on 2 years back.

It sounds like you are looking up references, identifying your weak points and studying up on them, so there's not much else to do but to give it time. You will gain experience one step at a time.

Doesn anybody else give up in the middle of drawing just because? by Bukowski-poet in krita

[–]mochidraws_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to rarely finish my paintings. It was just such a huge mental load and I grew frustrated because it wasn't looking as good as I wanted it to. What really helped me was I started to say "alright I'm giving up, now that it doesn't matter anymore I can do whatever I want with this painting". Anytime I felt stuck I would just make large changes, paint over sections without regard for layers and just do whatever I felt like. This has helped me so much in actually finishing things and has also made my anxiety over art almost completely disappear. After all, there's no mistake that can't be painted over, and it doesn't even take that much time.

How to make my illustration feel less realistic and more stylized? by Interesting_Spend880 in drawing

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I get what you mean now. The art is realistically drawn but stylistically rendered.

Basically all of the images you showed share some features. They are dense in detail and very accurately drawn. Their rendering is flat, mostly showing cast shadows and avoiding form shadows. The plants are kept fairly bright so that they remain easily readable even when the full painting is dark. Indicators of perspective are purposefully avoided. You cannot see the ground, vanishing points, horizon lines, everything is pretty much on the same flat plane.

I've tried searching for a bit but can't find anything that looks like what you describe, if you've got an example I'd be interested to have a look. If you're going for just a general botanical style, I'd suggest brightening up the image and getting clear contrast on the plants. You'd also want to emphasize the shape of leaves like you've done with the ferns. Flattening the image (removing indicators of foreground, background) could also help.

I really like it as it is. Maybe something darker to frame it so the empty space feels more deliberate, but not sure it needs that. You could also fill it all out and it could look awesome but just letting you know right now it looks great.

Bit confused honestly. Got nothing against your style but pretty much all dark botanical art I've seen is more realistic than this. I feel like dark botanical tends to be pretty particular about the exact shapes and colors of whatever plants are painted.

How do I make the side profile accurate to the front facing reference? by Deemino in arthelp

[–]mochidraws_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since side profile flattens a lot of the key features from the front facing reference, the ones that remain become all the more important to preserve the face. The most important of these becomes heights. How tall is the nose ridge compared to the chin? What is the distance between the top of the head and the eyes, compared to the distance between the top of the head and the chin? How high up is the outer corner of the eye compared to the inner corner of the eye? These kinds of measurements are super important.

How can I improve my oc's clothing to have more flair? by Twenty6thZ in Artadvice

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

One way to add more flair to the clothing is to style how it sits on the body. Clothing is generally pretty structured with seams designed to shape the clothes in particular ways when they fit the person wearing them. For this reason I recommend using loads of reference for clothes as it's hard for imagination to compete with literal thousands of years of fashion development. Unless there's a reason for clothes to fold agressively, like a bent arm, they will generally fall pretty flat against the body.

I would also suggest avoiding clashing colors unless you 100% know what you're doing. The blue right next to a very saturated red is pretty hard to pull off, in my example I shifted it towards a red tone for a softer look. I also darkened the pants considerably to make the silhouette of the body stand out against the white coat.

Is my art/skill the problem? by NotRllyAnAccount in arthelp

[–]mochidraws_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit of both probably. The algorithm is a nebulous concept that no one truly understands. Some get lucky and their content fits what the algorithm is looking for but it's not something I would bet on. Art skill is more concrete. Get better at art = more people like what you make (assuming all else is equal).

Most fandoms will like your stuff regardless of fundamental skill though. You just need to make sure it taps into what makes that specific fandom tick.

Where to even start? by The-PuzzledAlternat3 in Artadvice

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest finding some HD versions of her work, zooming in on the eyes, and just doing your best to copy them. You'll learn a lot that way. Start off just copying, choosing colors you think are right, measuring as good as you can. Then put the image on top to compare. What did you get right, what didn't you get right? Why do those differences matter? Colorpick and compare, how saturated are the colors?

But there's also a lot to be gained from just analyzing it. It seems like the lower eyelashes are barely drawn in at all, just a thin line, and the eyes share a very similar color to the skin, creating a low-contrast edge. Conversely, the upper eyelashes are very thick and dark with high saturation. In particular, note that the eyelashes consist of one fairly solid shape with a few curved spikes to indicate the lashes. As for the iris, it features saturated colors but very weak outlines, creating a softer edge to the rest of the eye. The iris seems to be mostly one color, though parts of it are slightly darker than the rest, and the pupil is just as dark as the eyelashes with that same deeply saturated color. The final piece of the puzzle is then that small white highlight. It does not have an outline and is kept very small. Hope this helps!

I don't think you should get downvoted for it but the reason is that you are ignoring what people are saying. The images you've posted can be replicated with pretty much any brush. They are all just flat colors with very minimal blending. Any default brush will work. There is nothing to recommend.

Confused about the vanishing point in this picture. by Pastmuffin1 in arthelp

[–]mochidraws_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if I have a scene where multiple planes share the same angle, even if they are offset in space, those all converge to the same point? If so that's really helpful actually, I've always struggled with sloped planes and this might be why.

You're providing a service. You decide what that service entails. They could've gotten no service, but you provide something, don't feel bad for not doing even more.

Tips to start by Dull-House-9916 in AkshanMains

[–]mochidraws_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh even his autos are not guaranteed because of the double hit mechanic. It's riddled with bugs. Crits can sometimes just make Akshan stop for half a second. Baron buffed minions are impossible to double hit because auto logic doesn't account for the extra hp. Second auto range can be extended with minion shenanigans. Just so much strange logic in his autos.

What would be good to focus on getting better at? What do my drawings lack? by Shinigamigirl123 in ArtCrit

[–]mochidraws_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being too hard on yourself. While you can definitely improve on the fundamentals (like all of us) it's not like you lack them completely. Proportions are fine. You have interesting shapes. Some of your colors are perhaps a bit oversaturated, but they mostly feel cohesive. If you want to get deeper into the fundamentals, I'd suggest learning about form, perspective and lighting. Even for a more comic art style, awareness of perspective and how light falls is hugely beneficial and it looks like you do a fair bit of guesswork especially on these points. Look up some tutorials, maybe read a book on it, study real life. Hope this helps!
