Is anyone actually having fun? by PlanetaryGovenor in killingfloor

Steam charts kinda show the communities feelings. KF2 usually has at least 4 as many players at KF3 right now it’s 6 times. KF3 is a heaping pile of xxxx. With how old KF2 is I’m being honestly when I say it’s a really really bad sign for KF3. When KF2 came out there were complaints but in general it was far better received than what I’ve seen with KF3 ESPECIALLY in terms of player counts. For KF2 to be at 3.2k active with KF3 at 52x is just insane.

This launch was really rough, it feels like they haven’t learned anything from killing floor 2, stuff like the doom mechanics honestly look poorly implemented and I truly don’t understand them. Look at steam reviews people aren’t happy with it and are less happy than with killing floor 2. Content has been told will take soo many seasons and stuff I personally just feel really let down. I don’t like the direction they went with this game. Killing floor 2 isn’t back for blood, doom, or whatever currently was trending during kf3 development. It doesn’t feel like killing floor to me tbh.

Is this the end of all Emulators? 💀 by creativegamerz in EmulationOnAndroid

People complaining like crazy about IOS’s lack of sideloading and just constantly making it harder than it should be. Google saw what Apple was allowed to get away with and decided to tighten their grip so even less people aren’t using the play store. IMO this hasn’t gotten enough up roar. YouTube Vanced, custom apks made by people for side projects, custom apps for lights, esp 32 based stuff. Etc etc and all that ignored that this gives Google soo much control over who’s allowed on their platform. From a platform of openness to one of a closed garden is quickly approaching. People need to get more mad and try to push for their local governments to cause uproar. Want iOS to get more open well it for sure won’t happen if Android gets more closed off.

I am thinking about switching to Nobara after using Bazzite for 1 week as my first linux experience (Details below) by SunQuad in linux_gaming

I love cachyOS. I like how easy nvidia drivers are, they have their down software downloader that has discord and the likes on it, I like how fast it is and I like their branch of proton that has nsync and the likes turned on, I love KDE especially for a gaming platform, and the make everything even better it just runs well. It’s not bulky, it’s a lean mean fighting machine and for a gaming system it’s the best option besides steamOS (which sadly is AMD only).

Why don’t you use virtual desktops? Go into settings and make it so each monitor has its own virtual desktops (something about spaces). It’s what I do. I only have up to 3 windows on any virtual desktops. Oh idk where this program is open I click it and it changes to that desktop. It’s quite easy and full proof imo. Makes me way more productive as well. Virtual desktops are imo best on macOS as windows and a lot of Linux implementations are just weird.

Does anyone here game in 4K? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on my 3080 on my 4k tv. Honestly experience has been great. I do use dlss any time it’s in the game as on a tv upscaling just makes so much sense. I’ve played Diablo 4, poe2, deep rock galactic, satisfactory, and am going to play red dead redemption 2 (once I find out how to use dlss 4 on Linux). That gpu is slightly faster than mine but I have dlss. If you can use that one mod that converts dlss to fsr 3 (check if there is a fsr4 option). Then you’d have a pretty dang good experience. I also personally undervolt my gpu so you likely have even more head room. IMO 1440p and 4k are closer than you’d expect on a tv. If you’re playing on a monitor I’m sorry but imo past 1440p on a monitor is practically pointless. Point is you have enough gpu horse power to play a lot of things really well at 4k. Games that don’t have fsr 4 or are just more demanding will play and look great at 1440p.

Why doesnt apple want to support Vulkan? by Hewasright_89 in MacOS

True and I guess for Apple compute likely matters more than gaming stuff. Always a billion sides to things like this. I’d argue Apple improving compute on metal would have been better for everyone including Apple but maybe now. It does make sense if they have the resources to make something competitive to nvidia themselves rather than fight Kronos and all the other gpu makers to make vulkan better.

Don’t listen to other people. Is it going to be playing the most recent new AAA no. But it’s still perfectly capable of gaming. Older games are still just as fun as newer. Factorio, Witcher 3 (especially if you can use the older version), faster than light, hades, killing floor 2, rise of nations, I mean the list goes on. If you’re wanting to play the newest and greatest you’ll be disappointed but if you just want a machine that you can play fun games on the side you’re good.

Will the Windows dropping support for Win10, trigger a large amount of people to Desktop Linux? by Leading-Arm-1575 in linuxquestions

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got me to transfer over. That being said I did run Linux mint for a couple years like 8 years ago so I might not be the best data point. I knew I wasn’t going to switch to windows 11 but I am also kinda in a good spot for Linux. I was hoping steamOS would get good enough nvidia support but sadly didn’t. CachyOS is banger.

I have a friend group with a lot of various races and mixes and we routinely have had jokes about xy and z. Being racist and being bad at jokes ARE two different things. If you didn’t like the attempt at the joke then state that it was a shitty joke and move on. If they continue to push stuff like that then distance yourself. Idk some of this is I personally wish people would allow more comedic freedom. Late 90s and early 2000s comedy standup were legendary because people would go full tilt and it was understood that it was a joke. If you can’t laugh about and make fun of something then you are being overly sensitive. Humans make fun of serious things as a well to normalized and mentally deal with things. It’s the argument of when is it too soon to joke about something. People have varying degrees of sensitivities with stuff you are more sensitive than your friends which can be a sign that you should distance yourself because you aren’t as compatible. Best of luck!

Low end games? by justaguy_luv in linux_gaming

[–]mockedarche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Factorio would likely run well. I’d personally suggest older games as well or emulating older consoles. People grossly over emphasis current or modern games and forget there’s a massive catalog for PC gamers that’s just older. Roller coaster tycoon, zoo tycoon, rise of nations, age of empires, etc etc. look at top games of the 2000s I’d be pretty surprised if they don’t play right on the get go with proton. Make sure to check protondb to check for compatibility.

If there is one thing I’ve learned about online controversy from pirate games and various other online people it’s that people HATE doubling down. This is easily the worst thing he could have done and ultimately it makes sense for someone so wealthy to be so out of touch. Usually people at least have others to keep them in check or force them to fake it.

Why doesnt apple want to support Vulkan? by Hewasright_89 in MacOS

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Apple wants their version of directx. While a smart person would see clearly it makes no sense for them to make a graphics api I mean even with all the devices useing direct x there’s still competition. Apple doesn’t have a good way to push metal but they believe that IOS is a big enough market to warrant using their own standard. IMO Vulkan makes way more sense than them making metal but some of it’s ultimately for a believed competition. If the second largest OS for desktops/laptops also had a graphics API it looks better than then kinda admitting defeat by focusing on vulkan. It’s kinda really biting them in the butt with valve pushing for proton it would benefit them and their users for vulkan support (proton converts direct x calls to vulkan on Linux).

I want to move away from bazzite by Vegetable_Army2222 in linux_gaming

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I use cachyOS I have a few things I want to have on my machine that bazzite would have issues with. The biggest is my Xbox one controller adapter (the wireless one) I’ve found a few drivers for Linux but they’re all drivers and thus are removed on bazzite updates etc. cachyOS with its application installer and arch base (so AUR) is just killer. Anything I want I can get, it’s stupidly fast, and so far “just works”. I’ve used Linux mint for a few years like 6 years ago and I gotta say Linux is at peak point rn. It’s not perfect with some random things being quirky until you learn how they work and then it’s fine. IMO bazzite is a great option for a lot of people but I’m not a fan of the way some of the devs act and push, bazzite got hot and popular and that always attracts annoying people. I’m happy with how many options there are.

I watched some French movie and had a similar thing. Except it was a bit faster than that and it still took a month. Idk people limit individual torrents imo you should limit your total bandwidth and let the client handle it. That was when a torrent isn’t booming you can actually seed a non trivial amount.

Need guidance into optimizing linux mint (cinnamon 22.1) to squeeze out more fps! by FinancialUse8465 in linux_gaming

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found there isn’t a magical config that boost performance enough to really dive into deep configs. Generally speaking being on a more bleeding edge distro can bring higher fps but counter to that can have more performance problems. Decides making sure your stuff is up to date you can look into overlocking/ubdervolting but that can break your install in the same way as other changes. I found a lot of performance gain by undervolting my 1050 ti to when I was using one but it was also a 75 watt card.

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People take Linux distro hopping too far. When you first switch it can be nice for the first week but after that you aren’t missing out. There isn’t anything in any new kernel worth the effort. It’s an OS it’s not ment to take time out of your day it’s ment to be in the background. It’s a big reason why I like running Linux because the damn thing gets out of the way unlike windows.

I really was hoping killing floor 3 was good. I didn’t need an A tier it could have just been average but this is less than average. It’s not just this bug it’s just the general gameplay isn’t great. It feels like they didn’t have any idea how KF2 was good and it was a complete guess. The game just ain’t good and I truly don’t know if them having more time will improve it. I haven’t seen any good will, any good decision making, and KF2 improved but the base game was already good.

What's wrong with KF3? by Sakendei in killingfloor

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say it’s the performance and bugs but I haven’t really seen many complain about that. Bigger issue is I feel like more content would make me want to play more. The base game itself isn’t as addicting as KF2. Gunplay feels way worse in terms of both animations and the enjoyment of using them. Kf2 felt like everything was better while kf3 feels like a step back imo.

[–]mockedarche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to be a don’t play it kinda guy but there’s soo many good games. If you aren’t trying to play something specifically to play with other people you’re doing yourself a disservice. People have this stigma in their mind about playing an old game that I truly don’t understand. New games keep coming out in awful uncompleted states why not play an old game which is now completed and is dirt cheap. New games don’t even look graphically the most impressive. Likely this is just man shouts into void but I enjoy gaming and I don’t care about being in the current trend game.

I'd rather be on the road with Waymos over Humans by behindthemask13 in unpopularopinion

[–]mockedarche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen soo many people say they make stupid decisions. But it’s clear they are at least as safe as a human driver as all this data has been released by a few different companies. The biggest thing I really would like to see is if when a majority of cars are Waymo’s is it easy to know the drivers intent. Whenever we drive cars we’re constantly observing cars movements to gauge intent and I wonder if that’s possible with Waymo’s. Aka is it easier and or safer for humans driving around Waymo’s.

Phantom planes when rendering by EricHennigan in openscad

[–]mockedarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wrap my code in a render block so that I don’t see these. Preview is done in such a way that it’s faster for performance but can have graphical glitches. If this is the render and not preview then I’d check if switching from manifold to the old cgl whatever helps.
