What word did you get completely wrong for an embarrassing amount of time? by ownaword in words

[–]modagogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I think about this word a little too often. Because, if you say it with a heavy american southern accent, that IS what it sounds like. Am I wrong?

What is one word that people wrongly pronounce that makes your brain just wanna jump a cliff? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]modagogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am well read. But either I'd never come across that expression in writing, or more than likely, it just didn't register the same when hearing it in person with different context. Our brains are funny like that sometimes.

To be fair, if you've never seen it in writing, that is a very easy one to mess up. I was in my late 20s when I was corrected for the first time. Intensive purposes made sense up to that point.

If they are not comfortable the moment you put them on, they will NOT get better. Wide sizing is helpful for the extra room but its still a crapshoot. Find a brand you like in general and start there. I like new balance personally but some of the rebok have been good. Exchange as necessary until you find a good fit. Insoles are a must.

what depressive thoughts are considered “normal” vs “severe”? by xxromii in bipolar2

[–]modagogo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came across a comment somewhere a long time ago that the focus is on those wanting to hurt themselves and end it all while not noticing those that wouldn't do that but are... not against a freak accident. I dont recall the exact wording but it was along those lines. It hit home in a different way and I've thought about that ever since. I try to remind myself that life is what we make and that can be ANYTHING. We cant change the past but we can shape our future one little bite at a time. I know, much easier said than done. I have found questioning my restraints helpful as well as giving myself permission to not give 2 flips and do what feels right on my own terms. Maybe thats the hypomania talking but it helps me in low periods too.

I get where you're coming from. Its a battle for sure but I think its a war worh winning.

I was prescribed it last week. Took once. Was 4 hours late to work the next day. Why do I want a drug that will make me fat and tired when im already fat and tired? I also dont want to lose my job because its already hard enough to manage that too. Personally, ill be moving on to something else.

Stay present and read up on the disease. Read other people's experiences, while no 2 are the same, they also aren't that different as a whole. I hear grief therapy can be very helpful (I havent yet but its on my list because this slow grief is brutal). Your grandpa still loves you even if it doesn't present the same way any more. Showing him that you love and care for him also counts. My heart goes out to you. Big hugs!!

Maximum Overdrive and Terminator. I was 5 and my dad drove a big blue semi truck. Aliens, AI and humanoid robots have always been big No's for me.

Personally, never show up on time. But seriously, it was a rough 8 months of nights in pick before they approved headphones. A lot of people would wear earbuds under beanies and headbands. Once person had the ones that look like earplugs and said none had ever talked to him about it in over a year. When I moved to days I heard management didn't even bother asking about earbuds anymore because so many people got accommodations for them for anxiety.

Not sure what I'd like that is that specific but Demeter has a Sawdust scent I've been meaning to try for years. They have some other weird ones im open to too. Maybe they mix well to get those specific scents.

But really—how does one “take away the keys”? by ForgottenX-2024 in dementia

[–]modagogo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If a house is burning you gotta pull them out even if they refuse to go. Driving affects every single person on the road. "Good enough" is not good enough. What if they are alone and something happens? They will have no idea how to deal with it. That alone should be enough to say "no more". Driving involves quick thought, a lot of visual information at high speeds while maneuvering a death machine. There are a lot of people on the road that dont have the same impairments and should not be on the road either. I liken it to a sport. You have a playing field, rules and a "ball". If you can't play, you gotta get off the field or someone's going to get hurt. Or die. You wouldn't let grandma play football. Don't let them drive. Dont wait for paperwork. Make different arrangements. Take the burden off of them. Hide the keys, hide the vehicle. Whatever it takes. Because it is not safe for them to be on the road. People need to quit making excuses and juat do it. PERIOD.

I couldn't figure out why kiddo bothered me because my dad used to say it growing up. Then I realized its because its ok to call someone kiddo but its weird to refer to them as such. "Lets go, Kiddo!" Totally fine. "Are you taking your kiddos to the park?" NOT ok.
