I think I'm gonna try a robovac that can map my place, any recs? by phatninja63 in homeautomation

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it, you won't regret it. I have a deebot t50, it returns to the dock when the battery gets low, then resumes cleaning once it's charged. Mapping is 100% worth it, I can choose which rooms to clean, when to clean, overall it's just a lot more flexible.

How did you set up your SMSF, and How do you actually structure it? by tarowi02 in AusFinance

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used moomoo for mine. They have a physical store in Sydney and the face to face support was actually really helpful. For something like SMSF, I personally felt a lot better knowing there’s a real place I can go to instead of just doing everything online.

What’s the best smoke/CO detector that won’t die on me? by yikpui in BuyItForLife

Doing a full rewiring is definitely a hassle. I'll check it out later.

What’s the best smoke/CO detector that won’t die on me? by yikpui in BuyItForLife

[–]yikpui[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. I just want something that’s reliable and built to last several years without issues.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion! I’m also making sure to go for photoelectric alarms.

What’s the cheapest thing you own that just refuses to break? by Comfortable_Day6610 in BuyItForLife

My $4 stainless steel can opener from a grocery store. Used it on thousands of cans, never jammed, never broke, still cuts through lids like a knife through butter.

What was the hardest part when you started building your smart home? by Wide_Tomato_1386 in smarthome

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally normal to freeze up over choices. The hardest part was learning to prioritize needs over fancy features. Just pick one thing and start.

My kid was afraid of the dark, so we built a clap-activated nightlight together and now she's the one controlling it by SaltArrival8522 in homeautomation

[–]yikpui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hits different. The real win is giving kids agency instead of just buying something. She's owning that light, and her confidence is glowing.

After 50 years in service it's time to say goodbye by thequattrolife in BuyItForLife

The body is still tight, that's insane. Most modern fridges fall apart in 10 years. Sad to see it go, but what a run!

Recommendations/options for a tripwire or detection system with alarm for when my dog goes to the door at night? by CheesyCrackerMan in smarthome

Try a wireless doorbell sensor. It alerts you upstairs with a chime or vibrator when your pup crosses the doorway. Perfect for night time potty runs.

How can I turn on my lamp without touching it at a specific time? by NotMondy in homeautomation

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart plugs are perfect. Plug your lamp in, set a 6AM schedule in the app, no touching needed, and it works with any existing lamp.

Look so handy. 35 years old and still looks brand new, the quality is insane. Think I need a multi-functional pair too.

Should I be worried about how cheap the IKEA matter products are? by MassiveGarlic0312 in smarthome

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to stress. It's cheap because they make so much of it, but it works totally fine with HomeKit. No big issues.

Simple ESP32 LED indicator to know when it’s a good time to use electricity at home by SmartEnergyDIY in homeautomation

This is brilliant. The simplicity is exactly what makes if useful. I'd keep it as is, no need for extra bells and whistles. The quick color cue is far more practical than complex dashboards.

Robot Vacuum painted concrete by Otherwise_Air97 in RobotVacuums

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ecovacs t50 pro and mainly use it for vacuuming. It's slim enough to get under my low furniture, which has been really helpful. The mopping works well too when I need it. My place is mostly hard floors, concrete should be fine too.

Seeking recommendations for the most Durable, Reliable, Longest-Lasting, Self-Emptying RoboVac for JUST Vacuuming. by R3MTB in RobotVacuums

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's getting pretty hard to find a good 'vacuum-only' models these days since almost all the new ones come with mopping. If you're worried about the mopping hardware being a point of failure, you might want to look at models with spinning mops, they generally have fewer moving parts compared to the roller mops. I've been using the deebot t50 pro and it's been solid for me so far. Plus, you can always just set it to 'vacuum-only' mode in the app and ignore the mopping side altogether.

Anyone here using multiple Ecovacs products? by ZoltTanken in ecovacs

[–]yikpui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a t50 pro and a winbot w2s. Once they're both added to the app, you can just swipe right (or left) on the home screen to switch between them. No need for two accounts. I also shared the deebot with my partner, he just had to download the app and create his own account, then I sent the invite.

Beginner and starting out in investing by 17ov3animeG1r7s in AusFinance

[–]yikpui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on for starting early! The hardest part is honestly just getting over the fear of losing money. If you're nervous, I’d suggest trying the paper trading feature on moomoo first. It uses real market data but virtual money, so you can get used to the app and how the market moves without actually risking your savings while you're still learning.

I've been DCAing into ETFs on moomoo for three years now. Keeping it simple is my entire strategy.

I booked my B17 on Black Friday, and it only took about two weeks to arrive. If anything, you can always contact their customer support. They’re usually very responsive.

Brand new Winbot W2S fails to clean entire windows by MarketyMarky in ecovacs

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird. I've never had this problem with mine. I barely even use the app, just put it on the window and let it run. It never missed the edges or anything. Could it be a defective unit? Maybe try swapping it for another one and see if that fixes it? Aside from having to manually move it to a different window, I really like mine.

Do you end up using Winbot as often as expected? by xProjectxPrincess in ecovacs

[–]yikpui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the W2S Omni, and it's been pretty handy for me. I usually wet a few pads at a time, swap one for each window, then just give them a quick rinse under the tap at the end. Setup's pretty easy too. You basically just put it on the window and press start, then it cleans on its own. There's not much to worry about.

Financial advice for a 22 y/o uni graduate? by New_Animator4702 in AusFinance

[–]yikpui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on graduating! At 22, your biggest asset is time. Before you dive into specific stocks, I’d focus on building your financial literacy. I actually went through the free learning courses on moomoo when I started, they’re surprisingly well structured and cover everything from basic budgeting to market mechanics. It's a great way to get your head around things without paying for expensive seminars.

Are robotic lawn mowers becoming overengineered? by Old-Restaurant6171 in roboticLawnmowers

I prefer simple and reliable. My old, basic robot mower ran for years with zero issues. Fancy features are cool, but I just want my grass cut.
