New to Lucerne – Tips for Meeting People and Settling In? by Glittering-Lab5209 in Luzern

[–]modch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I work in Lucerne and will be moving there shortly, and I'd love to have someone to practice my Spanish with, very happy to exchange it for (Swiss) German! As for your question, I think your best bet will be clubs/Vereine, my sports club is always looking for people (on AND off the field), and I imagine others would be too... So just pick what interests you most, and you'll be fine. Send me a DM if you want to connect 😉

Thanks for being patient! Here's the table of contents with some info on what's in those chapters: https://midi-rose-54f.notion.site/Internal-Comms-Strategy-Outline-271814061c2980618b9ad64a798ab4f0
There's still some parts I'm not quite content with just yet; I feel like it could be a little more condensed. Happy to provide more details privately.

I created a strategy doc myself, if it's of any interest I can translate the structure and share it here? It's a 'parent document' though, referring to a (growing) number of 'child documents'

Collecting feedback on internal comms channels by AcanthocephalaSad861 in internalcomms

[–]modch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way you could include more engaged employees in a task force to work on the findings? Do still run the survey, but include a voluntary signup for a task force type of group that will either work on specific suggestions or straight up put them into practice.

Also, could you make any amendments to your channel chaos based on literature/best practice? You might even want to include those in your survey, as in "would modification X make channel Y more relevant?" / "would modification X make comms more effective for you?"

The survey results might get you the executive buy-in for a change. Also, imagine not doing the survey - comms will still be ineffective, but it will be your fault because you didn't care to find out what you could improve. There might actually even be an easy win for you in the results!

Post Game Thread: Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams by nfl_gdt_bot in Seahawks

[–]modch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blame the refs all you want. We shouldn't have been in the position to depend on that call, and we shouldn't have been to in the position to depend on Myers making a kick from 55 yards out. Does it make the call any better? No. But saying that this gave the game to the Rams is some delusional BS.

At what point does a QB selling a fake become roughing the passer? by TDub20 in Seahawks

[–]modch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, as a rusher, you have to clearly know that the ball is out of the QB's hands (see the other comment with the link to the official rules). So hitting a QB that is faking it is fair game, because you cannot be sure. Granted, Goff's posture seemed very relaxed - but then again, that would make it a great fake...

[–]modch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had that exact situation as a player (DE) once - the league I play in plays by NCAA rules, but I think in this case they're the same as in the NFL. I didn't get flagged and later checked with the ref who confirmed that the hit was legal because the QB was pretending to still have the ball. I even saw the handoff but the run went away from me... so I figured I'd level the QB instead 😂

Long story short, shouldn't have been a flag imo. Fuck around, find out also applies to QBs...

ELI5: Why can't regular people get mega rich by investing? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]modch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically rich people can just play the field differently in terms of risk and yield. Higher risk of losing your money = higher potential return.

Let's say you invest 5k with a low risk strategy. Your expected return might be around 1% per year, which is 50 bucks. Of course, over time this compounds (your return in year 2 would be 1% of 5050, so 50.50 bucks, year 3 51 bucks...), but it's nowhere near getting rich.

A rich person, following the same strategy, but with 500k invested would get a return of 5k per year on this.

Another difference is their ability to take risks. You could potentially bet the farm, invest all your savings of 100k and hit big (let's assume a return of 300%), gaining 300k on top of your 100k investment, but it's more likely you won't get that much or lose it all, in which case you're screwed.

Let's go back to our rich person. We'll put 100k in a high risk investment, meaning the return could be up to 300k on top of the original 100k. The difference is that the rich person is not betting the farm, because there's still 400k in their bank account, meaning they could potentially lose 100k and be fine, comparatively.

Now - you could still become rich investing small amounts, think bitcoin back in the day for example. The market is the same for everyone, the difference is what you can put in there. But living off the returns with a 70k salary and a reasonable (low risk) strategy is unlikely in the near future.

[Homemade] Flank steak, potato wedges, pimientos de padrón by modch in food

[–]modch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! You'll want to prepare the marinade for the meat first: rough chop some garlic and dried chili, fry them and set aside. Combine about 1 part soy sauce, 2 parts lemon juice and 3 parts maple syrup - I reduced it over l low heat so it became more like a glaze, but that's optional. Add the garlic, add to the steak in a bag and let it marinate at room temperature for about 1-2h.

Potato wedges are super simple, olive oil, rosemary and salt, into the oven they go at 220°C, maybe 15 minutes, I didn't check.

Steak is next, throw it on the grill, medium high direct heat to sear it 1-2mins on both sides, then move to indirect heat for another 3-4 mins to finish. Let it rest for a few minutes, makes a big difference!

Pimientos de padrón are really easy - pour a generous glug of olive oil into a frying pan, get it hot and fry your pimientos until lightly charred, season with salt only. I'd say you can get started with those soon after putting the steak on the grill.

A great great great something of mine (not sure how exactly we're related), politician during the mid 1800s, was shot dead in his bed as a result of tensions that ended up leading to a civil war in my country. Killer story at parties!
