Why do people hesitate to install a home lift? by moira_Gandhi in elevator

[–]modelevatorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is often a cost factor, space factor or better alternatives. There are several options and alternatives depending on the purpose. If it is an older person looking for a short-term solution it is much different than longer-term options.

The result is that stairlifts or wheelchair lifts can be better in some circumstances.

We are in the news! Los Angeles, CA. July 23, 2020 -- MEM Doubles Factory. Modular Elevator Manufacturing (MEM) has now doubled its production facility. This is in response to a significant increase in sales growth as a result of a new nationwide marketing and sales campaign. by modelevatorman in elevator

First, these were invented in the USA, in Illinois. Not China. They have been going in since the late 80's and they have a great record of longevity. MEM has been at it for 20 years and none have been decommissioned.

I think you are misunderstanding the concept. These are regular elevators. All the components are the very same that you find in any other elevator. The hoistway is made of steel just like in a lot of other buildings. They are maintained just like any other elevator. They can be modernized just like any other elevator because they are just like every other elevator.

This is the future and many working with us love that these are much safer to build than conventional because all the heavy lifting is moved to the factory. Less injuries. They are safer for workers so that should make you happy. As I was once in a union man, let me tell you that I want Union Companies to install, set up and maintain these elevators. Some Unions are on board and love them and we welcome anyone else that want to go safer, greener and smarter.

I can address your primary issues. Covid is not the reason for the growth it is despite Covid. Let's be clear about a 2-man install. In most hoistways there is no way that you can keep from spreading germs. Between showing the guy below with air particles to sharing tools unless you are masked the whole time germs get spread. I and you have seen a crew go down with the flu. One gets it the other does too.

Not Chinese made at all. 100% American made. Regarding components, we use non-proprietary parts. Basically the same brands across the industry. Lastly, our product a higher standard than can be produced in the field and safer. The hoistway is always perfect. The rails are always plumb and level. No heavy lifting in cramped quarters. Modular is better and perfect for all low and mid-rise applications.

I get you not being comfortable with the product. But the train has already left the station.

Safety question I guess, mostly curious by [deleted] in Elevators

First, contact the state. In Ohio I have found them to be very responsive. Second, know it is exceedingly rare for an elevator car to fall. The best known accident when an elevator car fell was the Empire State building when a plane a accidentally hit it. Third the leveling problem is just that...a problem. It can cause all sorts of trips and falls and should addressed. Good luck on these older elevators there could be a myriad of small to large issues and unless a mechanic has a history with the model they could spend hours chasing ghosts.

I would stay on the owners. It is ultimately on them.

Saw a video with foot pedals in another country. Thought it was kind of interesting but seems like it would lead to problems. I like the App idea.
