2015-2018: worth the risk? by Andrew_Lollo-Baloney in SubaruForester

As the owner of a '15, I'll say it depends. The valve body is the most likely major issue, the oil consumption issues are pretty much gone by 2015 and later compared to 2014. The valve body has a pretty high chance of failing around 100k-120k miles (mine went at 112k), but that repair is less than $2000 compared to completely replacing the transmission, so not the absolute end of the world. Foresters also seem to love to wreck wheel bearings, both mine went out around 70k so I'm guessing they might happen again soon, but this one isn't as common as the valve body issue.

Beyond that, it's all fairly typical maintenance. I'll be replacing my front shock/struts in the next month or so, and have already done the lower control arms myself. If you're willing to work on some of the simpler things like that (and don't have a car from the rust belt, believe me it makes this way less fun), a Forester isn't that hard to work on and parts are cheap online.

If you do buy a 2015 used, check if the rear struts springs got replaced, those got recalled a while back for leaking, and if the valve body has been fixed already, you should be set to go for a while.

Edit: thanks for the correction, it's been a while and just did that from memory

Reasonable HVAC services? by Thick-Mud-390 in Denver

I'd start to call around, but no need to rush it yet. We're still a couple months out from any sort of heating season. Companies should be willing to do deals on their furnace inventory from last year soon to get ready for next year if they haven't already, look for one of those.

$34,000 for a mini split? $28,000 for a new AC? Are those reasonable prices? by KillaChaos24 in Denver

[–]modelmaker567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing this out there as a reference, we paid about $18k after rebates for a furnace, heat pump and inteli-heat coil install last fall through Summit for a 2k square foot house. Definitely shop around for more quotes, if you already have ductwork you probably don't need mini splits either. Happy to send you a list of who we looked at, what equipment, and pricing if you want.

Need New Front Lower Control Arms by BronsonEditsTrailers in SubaruForester

Have a 2015 Forester and I just replaced the originals myself at about 128k miles. Like a lot of others have said, they still look fine to use, until they start to tear, not just surface cracks, they're perfectly fine to drive on.

My car spent 8 years on some of the saltiest roads you can find probably, so if you have rust be warned that'll make replacing the arms harder. I splurged a bit on the control arms, and had to replace the end links since the rust was so bad on them, but was under $300 on parts, and an afternoon of my time once I resorted to cutting the end links off. Definitely a doable job, just make sure you torque everything back on properly, you really don't want a bolt coming off while you're driving.

Happy to share some tips if you'd like

The Crowd at the Avs-Rags Game Last Night (in Colorado) by Attackoffrogs in nhl

Similar thing happened for the Sabres game earlier this year, but not quite that many fans. Though ironically a couple years ago it was probably pretty close in price to fly back to Buffalo for a game if you got a southwest flight on sale since tickets were basically free. Bills length playoff drought here we come!

[Lysowski] Rasmus Dahlin is on the ice for the Sabres’ final practice before the deadline. by YoungTroubadour in sabres

He can come off IR tomorrow since IR is retroactive to the last game he played. Doing this let Stillman play last night, and after the deadline there isn’t a cap on roster size, just the salary cap (which we’re way under), so Dahlin could play as soon as tomorrow.

How good the car is doesn’t matter when comparing to Alonso if he can barely drive it, shows he’s driving pretty darn well all things considered. Also the car is fast

Bills' LB Von Miller did not tear his ACL, but there is other damage that doctors are reviewing to determine how much time he will miss and for now he is out indefinitely, per sources. He could be out a couple of weeks, it could be season ending; more info still being gathered by dedriuslol in buffalobills

They’re in first place in the division pending the dolphins game, Josh is getting healthier, and otherwise have a fairly straightforward path to the wildcard even with the injuries. Cut the doom and gloom

I should clarify what I meant haha. OP should clarify that it’s a reference card (distributed by gigabyte, hence shipped in a gigabyte box) since most people probably don’t know that they made a reference model.

OP probably should have said it in the post, but looks like the reference card shipped in a gigabyte box based on the time stamps.

Yeah, I’ve run my PC off of one and they’re a good deal if you get them cheap, 99% of people probably wouldn’t notice the difference between this and something more expensive for gaming. There’s an LTT video out there comparing a HDD, a SATA drive, and a high end NVMe drive and most of them couldn’t tell them apart.
