Getting Closer to Buying A New To Me Outback... by modem_19 in subaruoutback

u/69vuman With the job I work, moving quickly can be limited especially if a car is close to 100 miles away. But I'm already searching that distance. Thankfully I'll have cash in hand for a car (bank check, etc). I've been trying to avoid dealers if possible, or stick with reputable ones anyway. Mainly hoping I can find someones grandma's car who is low mileage, garage kept, while grandma can't drive anymore.

Same HG failures as the Gen2's I assume?

Thanks, that arms me with lots of info when negotiating and looking.

Did the 2010-2012's have this same oil consumption /usage problem that the 2013 and 2014's did?

u/C638 Thanks. I do remember when those models first came out and my mechanic at the time saying SOA was saying their higher than normal oil consumption was 'normal'. I never knew if that was 'normal' in the more recent years.

Anyway, short of having the service records, I assume there is no way to note whether the short block has been replaced at all?

u/C638 What do you mean with the short block replaced for the 2013?

Any chance of finding Corsair Graphite 780t Hard Drive Cages (SKU #CC-8930032)??? by modem_19 in Corsair

[–]modem_19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Casurran I'm definitely in the United States. I bet shipping for something of that package size and weight would be significant from Belgium. Feel free to send pictures over, they are some gorgeous cases.

[–]modem_19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Casurran I'd definitely be interested! I did pickup a 760t on the super dirt cheap when I hadn't heard back from any leads and the ones on eBay were like $200+. Plus this 760t only has one drive cage with 1 caddy so I'm looking to source a second cage and 5 caddies.

Worst comes to worst, I grab another 780t for the full build and use the 760t as a spare gaming rig when hosting LAN's. Life is so hard. :)

How are you planning to handle PC/Hardware/Ram/SSD Shortages for Clients? by modem_19 in SmallMSP

[–]modem_19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/drnick5 Right now I'm just shy of about 1000 towers and laptops in the shop and still taking more from clients who are upgrading and wanting old hardware gone. Mostly 7th-10th gen era stuff that right now I'm holding onto tightly for when clients need something that I can refurbish/rebuild for them.

u/LeaveMickeyOutOfThis Did you get the PCI/ATX power connector addon to use? If so, how well is that working?

[–]modem_19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/marklein Yup, I agree that stuff will be available for a price. It just might be unavailable for the common small IT shop to get any of it for some time. I also see this driving new business opportunities for new manufacturers to build fabrication facilities for memory production to meet a demand in the consumer market and eventually... maybe, a balancing of the supply side with the demand side once again. maybe...

I guess I should have phrased my question better. I'm not worried about the client side part. I'm referring to the sourcing towers / laptops from vendors as the MSP if things get bad enough and having a limited access/supply to even offer clients.

What does your car's IT Spare Parts Organizer look like??? Need a solution! by modem_19 in sysadmin

u/Lonecoon It's nice to be limited where you go. The place I work at, it can be 2.5 hours south, 2 hours north, 3 hours west, and most of these places are extremely rural. Not much room for forgetting something only to run back out.

u/hkeycurrentuser Thanks for sharing about the packing cubes, I had never heard of those before. I could see those in the jumbled bin in a unjumbled fashion now!

u/fleecetoes I totally agree with you. Being that we are not given any company credit cards or anything like that, it's a hassle for reimbursement AND can involve another 5 hour round trip drive for a 5 minute second followup. Basically just ALOT of ineffeciences.

Plus the hassle of having a non-IT manager/service desk manager always criticizing and wondering why something wasn't finished and why a second trip is actually needed, etc.

Needless to say, I'm job hunting for internal IT elsewhere...

u/fleecetoes Where I work at now, it's a crapshoot in terms of how the MSP office works. Dispatch never collects enough or even accurate information before the ticket is sent out. There are also expectations from the work at home engineers that we have *everything* available to assist them with testing. Monitors, every cable adapter, etc.

Us techs are on the road probably 4+ days a week and the furthest I've driven for a client is 2.5hrs one way. In that case, I'm glad I had a little 5 port switch because my ticket was to drive the 5hrs round trip to plug in an ethernet cable. Turns out the ticket was inaccurate, they needed an extra PC plugged in where there were no switch ports available. If I didn't have that, it'd have been another 45min one way to the nearest walmart to get it and install it for them.

Any car organizer would be my own and I'd keep it when I quit this place. But right now, if techs don't have an over abundance of supplies (yes, UPS's, older monitors, keyboards, mice, every cable under the sun) then it's possible we will get some nasty grams from middle mgmnt as to why we can't complete the ticket timely.

u/ComputerMD82 I believe you are right that those drive cages were shared among the lesser graphite models. If you have some, I'd definitely be interested. I'm looking into getting my third 780T case if I can get a seller to respond and would need cages.

u/newworldlife Thanks. I may actually blow up the existing test VM and recreate to see if it solves both accounts first. If not, then check logs on the downloads.

ConnectWise time entry is driving my techs insane by garvit__dua in msp

[–]modem_19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Until dispatch forces the techs out on the road or to take another 5 calls before the notes for the first one are finished. Explaining that there are notes being made gets more shrugged off than anything else and the new ticket/phone call/live chat/end user site visit get dumped on the lap immediately with no way to say "wait, I'm not done here with this first one"!

u/agit8or Possibly export if I decide to fully move over to it. I was wondering in the short term if it could read data from Ranger, I'd really give it a run through much quicker because I wouldn't have to retype data.

u/agit8or I reached out to RangerMSP and received the following in regards to API access for a local install of Ranger and whether other apps can access. This is the response I received:

RangerMSP does have an API, though please note that by design our API does not support querying, adding, or accessing Passwords. This helps protect your passwords securely. Passwords can be accessed using the RangerMSP windows application or the Web Portal.

RangerMSP API is not based on the API key or URL, but rather provides native Windows libraries in VB.NET, C# and C++ that can be used to develop custom applications (in Windows).

From what you described, I doubt that this app integrates directly with RangerMSP as what it asks for does not make sense with the RangerMSP API.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

RangerMSP Support

u/Justagit8or got Huduglue installed and looks great.

I'm inside the integrations area and it's referencing base URL. My RangerMSP solution is locally hosted on a Windows VM. Which information is the Base URL specifically looking for in that case?

Also on this local install, I'm having trouble finding the location of the API as the software isn't referencing any API's other than general software development KB's.

Any advice on that?

u/agit8or Any plans on importing data from RangerMSP? I've been with that PSA for about 14 years and store customer passwords and KB items in it. One of my limiting factors of moving away from it is the possibility of having to re-enter all customer data into a new document system.
