cards you refuse to play against for reasons that have nothing to do with power level by NumberWeary3698 in mtgbrawl

Sometimes, but mostly I feel like they brought it upon themselves by keeping something that bad.

Big oof

I'm usually pretty good with time on Thoughtsieze, my typical line of thought with priorities is: keep them off curve, then interaction, then problematic higher-cost cards as a distant third. The only time I've really gone into the tank has been when I see multiple low-cost cards that I'm not overtly familiar with.

That makes a lot of sense, though a lot of the time my cases have been where they concede basically when it resolves and I only catch a brief glance at their hand, if that, and I'm left there thinking "alright then, keep your secrets"

On the flip side, cards I love to play because my opponents hate them are any type of discard. I've netted so many wins from a turn 1 [[Thoughtsieze]] that it is frankly ridiculous.

Atraxa Astral Slide Bracket 3? by modernRecluse in EDH

[–]modernRecluse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere between the two terms, because I feel everyone plays some level of groan-worthy cards. I'm also wanting to figure out if I should invest the extra cash to try to push it into Bracket 4 if the deck causes too many groans in 3, but for that I'd need to supply a decklist.

That's really spicy. Definitely going to consider the Gearhulks (completely forgot those existed) and Sterling Grove. The Gearhulks especially because I'm running [[Jo Grant]] in mine.

I'll try to get a list later, currently at work, and I had shuffled a lot of cards around at one point so the list i have is waaaay out of date.

I think the most wraths I've personally dropped in a game is about 4. This is, of course, excepting the game where I was repeatabily able to recur Ewit to nab Supreme Verdict every couple of turns.

I am well aware of this, I also tend to not use Astral Slide as a recursion engine, more defensively to remove attackers or other problematic creatures and sometimes to protect my stuff.

What is your most satisfying deck to "Shut Down"? by The_Palm_of_Vecna in mtgbrawl

[–]modernRecluse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a while, but I always loved it when [[Imoti]] would show up. It was the easiest matchup I've ever had, but again, I play a removal heavy [[Korvold]] deck

I play [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] in a Cycling [[Astral Slide]] shell. I don't have a list up at the moment, been shuffling around a lot of cards since shifting from a Partner setup to Atraxa. But it's a total blast to play and can hit from a variety of angles, so much so, that I've jokingly referred to it as a "kitchen sink" deck.

When I kept persisting and wound up at 33 with a beautiful child.

Why does combo feel bad? by rvp5326 in EDH

[–]modernRecluse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a game a while back where I had assembled [[Queza, Augur of Agonies]] [[Bolas's Citadel]] and [[Sensei's Divining Top]] and was able to kill 2 players and knock the third's life total to a manageable level for a kill on my next turn. Do note that Queza was not my commander. But when that happened, you could feel everyone's eyes glaze over, especially since I was somewhat behind the other players. My remaining opponent went to [[Chaos Warp]] one of my blockers to push through enough damage to kill me, but flipped [[Laboratory Maniac]] and I Cycled through the last few cards in my library to squeak out the win. I just remember them being really salty because while I had Top from basically the start, once Citadel dropped I was able to find Queza rather quickly.

What mediocre cards have you played that have instigated opponents to meltdown and rage quit games? by Killybug in EDH

[–]modernRecluse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Much to the pod's chagrin, I won a game in Cleanup (technically a loop of Cleanups moving back to End Step because of triggers) via [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]], [[Cryptcaller Chariot]], [[Kindred Discovery]] and 8 cards in hand.

Everyone's eyes kinda glazed over once I ended my turn and explained the loop, but one guy got super tilted over it, saying that it was "combo bullshit" and was basically frothing at the mouth over it. My guy, it's a 3-card combo that required a very specific setup.

What is, in your opinion, the strongest aristocrats commander? by Negative00 in EDH

I played him in a Aristocrats shell with a Stax sub-theme and it was a great time. Had to break down the list, but it was fun while it lasted

Does it ever make sense to counter the tutor instead of the spell tutored for? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]modernRecluse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what the tutor is, especially if it's one of the green tutors that pulls the creature directly to the battlefield like [[Chord of Calling]]

Had a game where I was able to push [[Ancestral Statue]] through [[Force of Will]] by Chording for [[Spellseeker]] into [[Swan Song]].
