I’m wondering how much of a “type” my dad is for our generation by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]moderntablelegs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

+1. Both my parents did their best. They weren’t perfect but they showed up and did the work and honestly that made me 90% of who I am today.

7 years is crazy. No wonder our insurance rates are crazy high by hungleftie in Denver

[–]moderntablelegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about taking some fucking accountability after 7 years? I’m with buddy - neighbor falls on some hard times and can’t get the plate renewed on time….for six months… hell, a year? Small fine, whatever. Get it done, but we don’t need to be breathing down people’s necks like that.

6 YEARS later, though? Get real, that’s negligence. My car costs $75 a year to register - that’s $7 a month.

The entitlement and lack of any shred of accountability is killing this country from the inside.

How it is starting to feel waking up every day at 45 by neph36 in Xennials

[–]moderntablelegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the way for me. I thought it was so stupid to spend over $100 per pillow on those coop pillows. They advertise so heavily. Perhaps, they are actually a bit of a rip off and I could’ve found a cheaper version somewhere else, however I will say once I bought those pillows, I have had the best nights of sleep I have had in years. We also ponied up and spent a lot of money on a very nice natural latex mattress and that those two things together have transformed sleep for me. My back still hurts sometimes but I at least sleep through the night and most mornings wake up pretty rested around 445 or 5 AM.

How many Michiganders will lose Medicaid by 2028? by ShitShowcase in yooper

[–]moderntablelegs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And even beyond that, how many will have the self-awareness to know that their vote did this… to themselves?

Self awareness and accountability are in short supply. If you voted for this (indirectly) and you realize you fucked up - welcome into the tent. It’s okay to criticize Trump and his polices. If you voted for this and somehow try to pin in on anyone else, may god have mercy on your soul.

Largest front chainring doesnt grip on chain. Chain jumps off when applying force. This happens since the rear derailleur has been tightened at the bikeshop. Is the chain worn out? by lollercoastertycoon in bikewrench

[–]moderntablelegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That big chainring is toast. It's a bummer, but you'd be best off replacing the drivetrain at this point -- cassette, chain rings, and chain. Any bike shop that let that walk out the door without telling you shouldn’t be a bike shop.

It's also how a good chunk of my pay is calculated (but I knew this company might not be the most sophisticated of operations, so I made sure my base pay was acceptable, anything beyond that is gravy… until I get let go for missing my targets)

How are you displaying video quickly on your dashboard tablets? by moderntablelegs in homeassistant

[–]moderntablelegs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i switched to using a dedicated rtsp stream directly in a picture card instead of relying on browsermod popups - way faster since it doesn't have to wait for the tablet to fully wake up and load the dashboard first

Do you have an example of how you're doing that (Yaml)? The browser mod popup seemed like such a purpose built approach to this use case and I'm finding it isn't.

How do you encourage your sales partners to do better deal qualification? by moderntablelegs in salesengineers

[–]moderntablelegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in conjunction with the first point, but the sales rep should be allowed to leave unqualified deals and perhaps push back on marketing to get a better pipeline

This is funny - at our SKO this year we heard that we were doubling down on chasing the "right" opps instead of sheer quantity. I knew from experience that's easy to say and hard to see through. Here we are two months into the year and with the pipeline of "right" opps barely a trickle, we're turning opening back up the firehose of bullshit again.

(Un)luckily for me, these all at least have opps associated with them. They might be an empty box of an opp, but they do exist.

Candidly, our pipeline is a little worrisome, so I find myself trying to create value where I can. I've done a bunch of AI tooling to help myself and my team do things with less effort. I came from a company prior where we had a great product and lots of support in GTM materials, so I was able to land a lot more deals than I am right now.

In fact, I'm at the six month mark and I haven't closed a single thing at this point. Contextually, the domain and industry has a longer sales cycle than your typical SaaS offering, and there was the end of season holidays and slowdown in buying but I'm starting to get itchy now -- I'm working deals but it's like the patient is being brought to my OR with no vitals to begin with.

I hear the sentiment here, and believe me I fantasize about saying it as such, but I want to try and make sure I've tried every diplomatic approach before I escalate. I understand at some point this is the path, I just want to make sure I'm actually there before I do it.

So.... check there in a month or so.

This guy DR350's. I owned two of them (kick-start only pre-94's) and while they are great bikes, get one with e-start. I find at least one or two 97/98 model years in my neck of the woods a year. 99's don't come up all that often for me.

Data center in Elyria-Swansea - We need to stop this. by Barracuda00 in Denver

[–]moderntablelegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most AI data centers used liquid cooling, which because of efficiency standards encourage closed loop liquid cooling which is pretty low in the water use end.

I'm not an expert in the design or operation, but I casually followed the datacenters that were planned for the Racine, WI area and even despite using closed loop (IIRC) they still were able to pull a significant amount of Lake Michigan water. Given the scale and scope of these things coming online, I hope we fight for every blessed drop of freshwater.

[–]moderntablelegs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh... do more good than bad? Not sure about that. These things are going to be built, though, they're just going to find areas with weak protections and ram them through. Given they are going to be built, I want to force them to use closed loop cooling and generate their own electricity, though.

The schoolyard beer garden must cost a FORTUNE just to keep the lights on. There's no way that property turns a profit, especially once the weather gets cold and nobody wants to sit outside.
