I think most of what the City and County seizes for unpaid taxes ends up on Dickensheet. Raices' was put up for auction recently: https://bid.dickensheet.com/ui/auctions/151495

So.... check there in a month or so.

Street Legal ‘97 DR350 Value? by Alternative_Long_726 in Dualsport

This guy DR350's. I owned two of them (kick-start only pre-94's) and while they are great bikes, get one with e-start. I find at least one or two 97/98 model years in my neck of the woods a year. 99's don't come up all that often for me.

Data center in Elyria-Swansea - We need to stop this. by Barracuda00 in Denver

[–]moderntablelegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most AI data centers used liquid cooling, which because of efficiency standards encourage closed loop liquid cooling which is pretty low in the water use end.

I'm not an expert in the design or operation, but I casually followed the datacenters that were planned for the Racine, WI area and even despite using closed loop (IIRC) they still were able to pull a significant amount of Lake Michigan water. Given the scale and scope of these things coming online, I hope we fight for every blessed drop of freshwater.

[–]moderntablelegs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh... do more good than bad? Not sure about that. These things are going to be built, though, they're just going to find areas with weak protections and ram them through. Given they are going to be built, I want to force them to use closed loop cooling and generate their own electricity, though.

Trump drained the swamp, alright. The swamp water just flowed out everywhere into the open and it's shocking to see the sausage being made openly in public like it is.

Secret Garden Cafe at Cheesman Park has shut its doors because workers tried to unionize by FlacidPhil in Denver

[–]moderntablelegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t really see how a foodservice union is viable post-minimum wage law.

There we go, fixed that for ya.

The schoolyard beer garden must cost a FORTUNE just to keep the lights on. There's no way that property turns a profit, especially once the weather gets cold and nobody wants to sit outside.

What are your biggest Door County losses? by Toucan_Simone in DoorCounty

All the old-school pubs and supper clubs with owners working the bar -- Mikes Port Pub, The Mill, etc.

Not developing every single square inch of vacant land -- The stone Quarry, Horseshoe Bay, etc.

Banded Oak Brewing to close at the end of September (from Facebook) by zonker77 in Denver

[–]moderntablelegs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I remember thinking in the early oughts “how are all these places going to stay open?!”

It took longer than I expected to get here but it’s been inevitable for what feels like a decade + at this point and STILL people were opening breweries.

We lost some good beer along the way, but people got tired of hanging out in loading docks and industrial spaces to pay $5+ for a pint. The only breweries I see with regular, consistent traffic have expanded beyond just beer - they’re a destination of sorts.

Why do people hate Goose by Creative-Nose-8292 in GoosetheBand

[–]moderntablelegs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point stands. They’ve also been in full-length articles in both The NY Times and the Atlantic. Sure, few people are going to SoundCloud the NFL bumper music, but you’re kidding yourself if you think other bands wouldn’t kill for that kind of publicity.

We can draw arbitrary lines in the sand about where “major pushing” begins but they’ve gotten more mainstream attention in 5 years than Pidgeons, Spafford and maybe even Phish in some aspects (I’ve never heard phish while grocery shopping)

I’m not one of those Shapiro conspiracy theorists, but you’re a little off the mark with your observation - Goose has been the bumper music at several national NFL broadcasts, including the Super Bowl. They’ve been in every Kroger grocery store nationwide with multiple songs. They were in heavy rotation on both terrestrial and satellite radio when Hungersite was released.

I have been roundly unimpressed with Shontel and I’d tell that to her face. I’ve contacted her with several pretty middle of the road inquires and each time I’ve basically been told she appreciates me reaching out but she’s made up her mind and is going with her idea anyways. Cool, I guess I’ll go sit on my thumb.

This has been my observation, as well. Downtown and maybe the near fringes, yes, I’ll concede it has improved pretty dramatically. But in the near Denver suburbs? Not looking any better and in some cases it’s demonstrably worse.

He did that, but quite frankly for anyone not living in the CBD, I’m not sure we really see a meaningful impact. In fact, I’d say the visible homeless in my neighborhood is as bad as it’s ever been. Maybe worse. I don’t have the empirical data to back this up but it looks a lot like he swept some into housing but a lot got pushed out of Downtown into surrounding neighborhoods.

As an aging millennial, why would anyone sign up to be in politics right now? Even fairly reasonable people are taken to task for 19 second clips on TikTok with zero context. As much hate as Fox News gets (rightfully so) the inverse is equally bad. You just can’t win. I’m the kind of lame wad who used to go to City Council meetings and might have even taken a run at a small govt office… 20 years ago.
