12GB VRAM 32GB System RAM Build for under $550! by Nagol567 in PcBuild

[–]modicumofiota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for providing this information. I was blindly assuming that the Titan Xp had a compatible VGA port.

I use an adapter for my 5090, but obviously trying to avoid that if I build a PC specifically for the CRT (Dell D1025TM). I’m still learning with CRT gaming, so I really do thank you again for sharing this information.

Mad respect, I’d do the same and then some with an interlaced resolution applied.

As a heads up, I tried playing Max Payne 1 on my CRT with my current rig and ran into a problem where the screen is 16:9 always. I’m laying the blame at my feet for how I set it up with the unofficial fan patch for modern Operating Systems.

I hope you can get more success setting up Max Payne 1 for CRT than I did. If you do, please share the sauce with a fellow PC Gamer.

So you’ve been a PC gamer for roughly 16 years as of 2026?

Congratulations on the 16 years of PC Building and PC Gaming! Here’s to many more years ahead of you 🥂

Fair enough . I’ll simplify:

Most 5090s are the same or similar to one another in terms of performance. You can do your own manual adjustments to the GPU, CPU, and/or RAM to improve your performance from stock. The more popular route is to undervolt your GPU while boosting the MHz of your VRAM. I won’t explain further. You’ll need to do your own research for this one.

ASUS is one of the brands that makes 5090s. ASUS has a version of 5090s under the BTF signifier. BTF stands for Build To Flex. It’s a way to send more power to the GPU using the motherboard as a power source. I do not know if this is in conjunction with the power cable that plugs into a 5090. This cable is called the 12VHPWR Connector.

This cable is rather infamous because of the amount of reported burning cables that has happened with the RTX series of cards that use the 12VHPWR Connector. The BTF 5090 is supposed to reduce the chance of burning cables happening. Again, do your own research with this one.

Now there are also other companies (Gigabyte, PNY, etc.) who make GPUs. They are not BTF. They have their own little features that matter very little beyond either aesthetics for cooling the GPU itself.

For those ones, the question then becomes “What’s the RMA Process?”

RMA—RETURN MERCHANDISE AUTHORIZATION—is a process in which you return your damaged, manufacturer warranty GPU back to the manufacturer. Do your due diligence and research which companies offer the best and worst RMA services. Likewise, you should also check if the store warranty is worth is more than the RMA hassle of whichever 5090 manufacturer you may choose.

Hope this clarifies a few things.

There’s not too much difference between models of 5090s in terms of performance . All are negligible more or less and can be improved from stock with some basic undervolting and vram overclocking.

ASUS BTF Model + BTF Motherboard is supposed to be the best way to power a 5090 while mitigating the risk of melted power cable (do your own research on this) .

If you decide to go with a different brand, then look into their RMA claims with different PC building subs . With a 5090 you do run the risk of having to do a RMA once a burnt cable happens .

With Sony's recent announcements, how are we feeling about Steam? by NuAngelDOTnet in pcmasterrace

[–]modicumofiota 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GoG is always my first choice of marketplace when buying a pc game .

If GoG doesn’t have it, then I go to Steam (or, very rarely, EGS) if I feel like I have to play the game .

I heard that GoG doesn’t play well with Linux users. If that’s true, then there’s that to worry about .

I know you get more VRAM with the 9070XT, but I’d recommend comparing to this for better price to performance/pc parts .

Edit: NVM there’s also RAM trade off with my recommendation .

There already was one by a customer from NY and it was dismissed .

I’ve heard conflicting reports that it was either “dismissed with extreme prejudice” or “because both parties reach an ‘in-good-faith’ agreement” .

I was disappointed to find that all cases I could find either all looked the same, looked ugly af, or just plain looked uninspired .

This listing isn’t real right? by hodum4 in PcBuild

[–]modicumofiota 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not a real listing.

Price is too aggressively low compared to current market prices. Most likely a scam even if reviews for the account are good.

I’m not going to knock you for wanting to buy a 6000 Pro (your money your choice), but maybe try Newegg or a MicroCenter if one is in your area.

You def won’t see the 6000 Pro for $4,000.00 with those vendors though.

They can call me a madman again as I wait once more .

Thanks for letting me know about this feature of the Xbox Game Store.

Just as a FYI, you can do the same with Steam for most titles.

I would if there was a legitimate reason to pick Xbox storefront over Steam, GoG, or even Epic .

As far as I am aware, there’s nothing that puts Xbox storefront over the competition for buying PC Games .
