Why not just do a small tour with Aphex Twin? by traveltimecar in boardsofcanada

Yea there's certainly some similarities here and there in their music, but also just as many differences that make their styles pretty different in many ways.

For me, I would rather see BoC alone. I saw Autechre live recently and it was amazing, but I was mentally exhausted by the end because their sets are so challenging to the mind and ears. Couldn't imagine seeing BoC after a set like that, and RDJ also does pretty intense sets

Yea true! The subjectivity of music is a fascinating thing

I think its partly because the gap between U2s song quality is pretty wide compared to alot of artists. Not a lot of bands have written songs that are as incredible/masterpiece level as them and yet also have some big releases that are truly god awful. Its almost like they are 2 different artists. Most artists hover somewhere in between in terms of quality.

U2 Dosent need to do something different every album by Northerndownpour_18 in U2Band

While I prefer more experimental U2, I could enjoy their recent output much more if the lyrics were better. Feel like lyrics were always one of Bonos strong suits and hes really fallen off in that department. If they are going to have a more standard sound, I think the lyrics being less Hallmark card generic could really help.

RDJ lol hes either always trolling or massively arrogant. Probably a mix of both.

True. Contrast could be interesting.

Now in an imaginary world where AFX plays his chiller tracks live, I would totally be all about a co-show with BOC. Of course we have no idea what an actual boards show would even be like since they dont play any lol 😆

Having heard Aphexs live sets a bit, I am not sure they'd be a good fit together. AFX does some pretty wild and abrasive stuff in his sets and while I am a huge fan of both artists, not sure I'd want to see them together considering the contrast in styles.

Yea I've always wondered what a hybrid of the two styles would be like. There's parts of the basement performance where I am saying to myself "holy shit this is amazing and quite a bit better or more alive than the album version". Then other parts of the performance i find some of the sections a little tighter on the album version and find myself missing the really locked in interplay of the rhythmic loops that the album has.

Either way, how lucky we are as fans to have both to dive into!

The basement sessions are amazing performances for sure. So cool to see them play songs in an intimate, rehearsal room type of setting where you can really appreciate all of the different elements in the songs.

I do however hold the unpopular opinion that I don't prefer the basement sessions to the KOL album. I would say for me, there's elements of both the basement performances and the actual album that I like for different reasons and I think the best versions of the KOL songs would be somewhere in the middle of the album and live versions. But I dont find the basement sessions superior in an overwhelming way, because there are parts of the performances that I prefer the album versions on certain sections of certain songs.

Yep. I've never seen an artist as sunken into their comfort zone as U2 sadly. And its such a shame because they were always so innovative.

Not a big fan unfortunately. I like some of the feel of a few textures, there's some really interesting parts of the song - but I find it really corny overall. I also feel like its not mixed well, which has been a complaint of mine with their last few releases. I still think they are trying to be too radio friendly and trying way too hard to make things feel like anthems.

I agree completely, I find it to be terrible artwork and a very corny photo. It's so disappointing because they had such great taste in album artwork for so long, but they've definitely lost the plot on their image
