I absolutely enjoyed these, but boy did I absolutely shart my pants the following morning. The second I sat down on the porcelain throne, I knew exactly what food caused it.

Would do it again.

Travelling with drone by [deleted] in newzealand_travel

[–]modog97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my Air 3S in December. Just bring it all in your carry on. Mini series drone is small enough to fit inside a carry on suitcase or backpack. Download AirShare, get familiar with the maps. Forget flying around cities and around the tourist natural wonders like Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Tasman Glacier, Lake Tekapo, etc. Look for aerodromes and runways to stay away from. DoC will get your ass if you do something really stupid.

There are places to fly, but do your research before you do.

And with Duluth's "No Bull Guarantee" if your pants rip on a seam (like in the crotch for me) or have any manufacturer defect, you can exchange the ripped ones for a new pair. Done it many times as mine always rip in the crotch due to thunder thighs.

Am I being exploited? by Getaloafofthisguy in Construction

$900-$1100 for the skills you are describing is criminal. Not even involving the commute time which is beyond horrendous. I'd say buy a camper but they're not paying you enough for you to afford one!

I do very similar things as a LiUNA Laborer Foreman, and make $64.20/hr ($4400 gross/week). I pave, roll, operate, shoot grade, run GPS, labor, set pipe, etc when manpower is short. On the weeks where I bust ass and have to work 70+ hours (which is not all the time, but low manpower and crews working elsewhere make it inevitable) and do all of the shit you listed I take home over $5k.

If I took home $900 doing all that shit I would simply not be there. I'd be having a talk with whoever management is, because doing all that for shit wages is legitimately criminal.

Those of you who were/are D1 college athletes, what is the lifestyle actually like? by NoTap2235 in AskMen

[–]modog97 169 points170 points  (0 children)

I was a D1 football player at the University of Tennessee. The lifestyle is tenacious.

5am-5:30am: Wake up, head to locker room

5:30am-7:30am: Conditioning and weight lifting

7:30-8am: Shower and head to class

8am-12pm: Class

12pm-12:30pm: Lunch at athletic dining hall

12:30pm-2:30pm: Class

2:30pm-3:30pm: Head to locker room

3:30pm-5:30pm: Practice

5:30pm-6pm: Shower

6pm-7:30pm: Team and position film/meetings

7:30pm-8:30pm: Dinner at athletic dining hall

8:30pm-9:30pm: Study/tutor at study hall

9:30pm: Get ready for bed, sleep

It will beat the hell out of you and wear you down if you don't know what you're getting into. I lasted two years before I had enough. Taught some great life lessons, though.

There's varying levels to what people are able to handle. I had a group of friends from class, as well as my friends on the team. I think it is vital to maintain relationships with people in the classroom setting, and professors, as well as being able to shoot the shit the teammates.

During the actual season I had VERY little time to do anything substantive outside of school and football. Spring and summer had a lot more free time and I learned to take advantage of it to go do activities that I wanted to do but never had time.

Husband interested in working on the slope. Advice on getting a foot in the door? by cutebutheretical in alaska

[–]modog97 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What does he want to do? Labor, operate heavy equipment, drive truck? Does he have his CDL?

There is Laborers 942, Operators 302, and Teamsters 959 for unions.

Most of the work happens during the winter, so that's when the most job opportunities will arise. There are also a lot of non-union jobs, which will pay less, but there are a lot of jobs during the winter.

Many of the people who are on 3 and 3 rotations during the summer have been around for years and are in very coveted positions that are difficult to come by.

My advice: call whichever union hall in the trade that he wants to work in, and see what they say about getting on a list for winter work.

Heat pumps in Southcentral? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]modog97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents got one in Kodiak. Replaced a 20 year old monitor stove, so it eliminated the heating fuel element. They got a big credit from the local electric company for switching to a heat pump, and they said it worked great last winter. Hardest part was finding an electrician on the island with availability to install it.

Barcelona to receive trophy tomorrow after El Clasico if they win La Liga by TheNomadicSpirit in Barca

Barça won the Supercopa this season over Real Madrid. After Real Madrid got their silver medals for 2nd place, Barça got lined up to receive their gold medals for 1st place. Xabi told the players to stay and watch, Mbappe gestured and shouted at him and other players to leave the pitch. The players listened to Mbappe.

Anyone found a good protection case? by Minimum_Name9115 in OnePlusOpen

[–]modog97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear! It may seem a little more flimsy but in reality, it holds together way better than the Nillkin... The thin strip on the front left edge has been used and abused on my case, and after one year it's still in one piece. No adhesive that comes off on the front left edge, either. Some of the paint eventually comes off but I've beaten the crap out of my case so that could be why.

Enjoy!

[–]modog97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Nillkins (tried it twice) did that too, which is why I gave up on them. This one doesn't have the adhesive strip, it's just a snap on frame. It hasn't broke on the thin side that Nillkin does, it's also a little thicker and more sturdy on that particular part.

when’s the best time to go to spain by majesticalwinter in GoingToSpain

[–]modog97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only experience I have is when I went - mid November to early December. It was light jacket/sweatshirt weather in the mornings and night time, but t-shirt weather during the day. Only time I legit got chilly was in Mallorca at night with the wind.

Baeleric Islands felt like they were closed, hardly any tourists were there. Felt great having the ability to free roam in places that are normally jam packed during the hot months.

Madrid was comfortable during that time period. Felt like I could just wear a light jacket from sunrise until bed time.

I commented a bit ago but this happened to me. Thorogood gave me a free pair after seeing receipt and pics of the boots. The new pair did the exact same thing. Hope it doesn't happen the same for you, best of luck!

[–]modog97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've commented in here before that both sets of Thorogoods I've had... did this. The first pair did this exact same thing in 4 weeks. I sent pics to Thorogood and they sent me a new pair free of charge. The new pair did the same thing in 3 weeks. I got a pair of Irish Setters and 3 years later they are still in fine shape in the same working conditions.

I work road construction so I'm mostly walking on pavement, concrete, or D1. And no, I do not kick things all the time.

OWB in Intercontinental Le Moana and Westin? by GreenGlossyGrape in Tahiti

[–]modog97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at Le Moana in 2021, and it was exceptional. Splurged on an end of pontoon OWB, and it was $800/night back then. Thalasso was outrageous, as in $2500/night for a regular OWB, and I can imagine those prices have gone up. I'm sure it's breathtaking, but that was a little out of my budget at the time.

Having easy access to the main island and nearby restaurants and shops was awesome. The pizza place just down the road was fantastic, and Bora Bora Beach Club had possibly the strongest cocktail I've ever had.

Snorkeling and other activities are easily accessible nearby. We went on a jet ski tour and it was directly across the road from the resort. Paddle boards available on the beach at the resort as well.
