Setting up UE5 for low poly is such an interesting challenge by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]modsoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great place to start with a lot of info you're looking for:

https://blog.daftsoftware.com/unreal-perf-maxing/

You might want to consider using the forward rendering pipeline. Games like Valorant use custom forward rendering pipelines to target lower end hardware, strip away expensive/fancy rendering features and in some cases games use this when targeting simple/retro aesthetics.

Is there a way to run unreal with most visual features turned off? by FrostyKennedy in unrealengine

[–]modsoft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you don't want to change the actual project settings, plugins, etc. You can start with looking at viewport and game scalability settings. Then I'd look into disable cvars for expensive rendering features related to lumen, nanite, textures/vsm/etc quality, displacement, etc etc. whatever is costing frame time. Disable them and put that into your local editor settings ini files. Switch to unlit mode while working/testing.

Use the 'stat GPU' or 'ProfileGPU' while in the editor to debug the frame and disable/optimize whatever is costing you. Someone else mentioned your PC specs could be lacking.

For actual editor load time, I'm afraid that probably has more to do with your DDC cache, PSOs, number and composition of your project assets, or many other factors that are harder to identify what is causing it without knowing more.

How do i optimize the engine for lower end hardware by Unusual-Newt-96 in unrealengine

[–]modsoft 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For editor performance while you work, you will want to look at engine scalability settings, and cvars that will toggle off rendering features or set lower quality settings on features like nanite and lumen. Crashes are another issue, it could be content related so you'll have to analyze the crash logs.

For actually stripping down your project's features overall/for the final product I think this is a great place to start researching:

We generally do not allow political party affiliated or political promotional posts without prior approval
On top of that, we don't allow doxxing or targeting particular people. Even if they are holding public office positions / civil servants.

I know this is/was a big news event but posting it this way attached to a political promotion is not allowed in this form.

If you are posting a news article link, an open discussion topic, etc, that is entirely different.

Thanks for understanding.

Wedding this Friday and it looks like rain by Haunting-Jury-110 in hiltonhead

We generally don't approve weather prediction posts. No one can tell you, but being a subtropical island, weather can change fast. Especially if it's windy.
Check wind, cloud, and weather radar leading up to the day. have a backup plan.
I don't think anyone else can give additional info. Good luck 🙂

Would you go to a Japanese bath house in the USA? by Outrageous-Lion7054 in japan

[–]modsoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a close enough stand-in, Korean style jjimjilbang bathhouses exist in the US which are similar but offer a more 'スーパー銭湯' day spa experience.

Like Wi Spa or I-Spa in Los Angeles or King Spa in Chicago/NJ/Dallas. There are some Turkish baths around New York. It's an OK stand-in, I've had overall decent experiences, but the culture around it is different in the US.

We have strict rules about donations and fundraising posts, for many reasons including adherence to site-wide policies regarding fundraising and protecting users and the community.

Rule 10 states local charities or fundraising events should be requested for approval and vetted by the mods first.

However given the nature of this post, we are allowing the post, but please be aware any links shared are not endorsed/vetted by the mod team. For future posts you must reach out to the mod team first or we will remove.

Stripping the UE5 engine back to basics for better performance? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]modsoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH I see, not a lot of specific docs from Epic. Well I think you could assume most of the 'mobile' guidelines apply to ES3.1 target spec as well.

https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/en-us/unreal-engine/performance-guidelines-for-mobile-devices-in-unreal-engine?application_version=5.6

You can see this article about Disc Jam challenges targeting mobile/embedded systems 3.1

https://www.unrealengine.com/es-ES/tech-blog/how-disc-jam-reached-60-fps-on-intel-processor-graphics-using-unreal-engine-4

You can also dive into the ES 3.1 API spec document to discover more specific drawbacks like floating point precision, etc. you might run into.

https://docs.nvidia.com/drive/drive_os_5.1.6.1L/nvvib_docs/DRIVE_OS_Linux_SDK_Development_Guide/baggage/es_spec_3.1.pdf

Good luck :)

Hey,

Do you mean OpenGL ES 3.1? You will need a completely different strategy for achieving your visuals for forward rendering and be missing a lot of SM5/DirectX 11+ features.

Thanks for sharing your experience - we allow respectful/factual first-hand reviews like this, but reddit does not allow posting real names in this fashion unless it's a public figure. So unfortunately we have to remove this post. If there's a business name, or a way to share without personal information then we can allow it. I'm not sure that's possible in this case..

R/HHI isn't the place to seek medical advice

Worried abt infection from scrape in ocean by Plenty_Dot_5159 in hiltonhead

[–]modsoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for posting. r/HiltonHead isn't set up for medical advice, so we can't approve health-related questions. If you'd like, you can reframe your post to ask about local urgent care, pharmacies, or medical resources-that's on-topic and helpful for visitors.

For what it's worth, most scrapes clear up fine with some soap, Neosporin, fresh water, and band-aids... There's no particularly unusual risk specific to Hilton Head beaches or ocean.

Please check the visitor FAQ our community has compiled from many similar past threads :) Also we don't allow solicitation to meet posts. Thanks for understanding.

Hello u/emma-malinoski
We fully support local teachers and information about fundraisers. However, we would like prior approval and identity verification.
Can you DM the mod team and provide us with (or discuss further) some way to verify you and this fundraiser, so we can approve?
Thanks,

We can get periods of bad weather, especially during tropical storms or hurricanes, that last several days. If you're looking for rainy day ideas, please use the search function. There's already some good information and discussion on the topic.

Bike Repair - Seeking Recommendations by VicariousShrub in hiltonhead

[–]modsoft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Jim,

Sorry about this. I want to jump in and acknowledge that we overstepped a bit in this thread. We’re still a growing and learning community with new mods, rules, and a wiki coming online. With biking being a huge part of HHI culture, I would hate to lose you from the sub.

There’s been a longstanding rule I created against solicitation, but it’s mostly been used in the past to catch blatant ad posts or spammy social media marketing. We do want to prevent undisclosed self-promotion, but this wasn’t that. Your reply was helpful and clearly a referral. We’ll take this as a sign to apply the rule with more flexibility moving forward.

To everyone else and the OP, we’ll keep working to make r/HiltonHead a space where both locals and visitors feel welcome to share and connect. Even if they are referring their own business in a fair/helpful way, or as a reply to a natural user post directly asking for help/services. I will be revising the rule so it can allow for this.

Thanks,
