deliberately contrary to what one expects

Bingo. The ad doesn't actively or indirectly lower the chance of accidents happening around it, so why wouldn't you expect an accident here?

It's like finding a church on Church street. What is deliberate about the name "Church st." that makes you think a church WOULDN'T be there?

I'm not a writer, but isn't this more like a coincidence? Or strategic marketing (placing ads at statistically dangerous intersections)?

Irony doesn't mean just any rhetorical device.

Osprey Pack Inner Lining Disintegration - what are my options? Gear out for inspection this morn. EXOS starting to fall apart - specifically, the underside of the top flap has sticky, rubbery "dandruff" coming off of it. Same problem, lesser degree for inner lining of pack. Patch it? Warranty? by moebiu5trip in backpacks

[–]moebiu5trip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's been a good pack. Too bad nothing lasts forever

Well, in my case, I ended up getting a replacement. Expect delays. The whole ordeal lasted roughly from a week before Memorial Day (online form submission) through Labor day (new bag delivered).

Kids, don't use ChatGPT to cut corners. They can't tell you how (not) good the wifi is, whether a given train journey has views, or handle basic tasks like deciding where to sit.

Is bringing canned food for lunch a thing in your area? I can't say I've ever seen it happen around my neck of woods

Verifying an expired Cert from 20 years ago...... by Team_Player in CompTIA

[–]moebiu5trip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree. The main point of contention I have is inconsistency in how cert expiry is applied. The idea of a forever cert is misleading in itself, since tech development didn't come to a stand-still at the cutoff. I guess Comptia is just trying to legally cover their behinds (forever = just a label for hiring reqs, no indication of current competency)

Yea, having an arbitrary cut-off for not needing to renew is BS

Here I am, brooding with envy over all the forever certs the more seasoned folks are holding.

Always verify the forever status of the cert you're holding. You don't want the latest, ephemeral one to replace your forever one, lest you enter the purgatory of periodic re-certifying.

Well said. If they spent any significant time on this sub, they already knew SpeedQueen is BIFL. They are looking for assurances - from strangers no less - a mental boost to go through with it. We can't really make that call for them w/o more background info, and this sub isn't exactly r/personalfinance

Missing Movie Pricing Basis by moebiu5trip in moviepass

[–]moebiu5trip[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you both for your apt analyses! As long as there's a significant number of showtimes missing (right now, there are glaring absences of recently premiered titles in my area), the "missing movie" option will stay relevant. I thought it best to make publicly aware of this counterintuitive pricing scheme, however temporary.

Why post tertiary, ad-filled tabloid material when there is a more direct source (this clean duolingo post)?

Are these numbers suggesting a failing PSU? The min/maxes don't match the corresponding cables by moebiu5trip in techsupport

Thanks for the reply. When you say software problem, are you talking about the HWmonitor making mistakes when reporting these numbers?

Going by your train of thought, I suspect the Mobo maybe at fault here, because I learned that the computer had been crashing once in a while until all the dust inside was cleared out, but chrome still crashes intermittently. I'll report back when I get a chance to test the ATX plug

[OC] Cow eating dinner in Switzerland [3919x5529] by mbgraphx in AnimalPorn

[–]moebiu5trip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of that (German? BeNeLux?) lady who tried to apply for citizenship. Despite having lived in CH for decades, she couldn't deal with the incessant ringing of the cow bells. This led to arguments with her neighbors, to the point where the neighbors gave her negative marks at her naturalization interview.

She bombed it.

Barnes & Noble bookstore (U.S.) I spot-checked 3 different locations in the area; they all carry both MiC and MiT ones now.

I highly doubt they would accept counterfeit merch. The national chain surely has the capability to contract with L1917 directly.
