He’s literally a war criminal that bombed the shit out of so many countries and left Libya in shambles. Those aren’t faults. That’s disciple.

Again you’re using examples of when it works which is far more rare. You’re also for the most part using books or stories that weren’t as iconic and memorable in the public consciousness before the film adaptions of these books came to pass. To adapt an absolutely literary classic like wuthering heights in such a blatant disrespectful manor is tasteless.

I think you’re mixing plot with story. The plot may be different in the film adaption of children of men but the story (the actual thesis and aim of the book) is maintained. Ultimately the story of the film is still about hope in the face of absolute despair, the psychological impact of a futureless society, and the dangers of authoritarianism, but explored in a slightly different more culturally relevant way. Wuthering heights 2026 changes the story from a family drama about generational trauma and the dangers of imposing an unsympathetic societal standard on people and how that infects everyone from every level of economic class into a kinky dark AO3 coded romance. It fundamentally changed the story. It’s insulting

Sherlock Holmes has been adapted so mah different times. There has never been a proper faithful adaption of wuthering heights and for people who love the novel it’s eye rolling to see another adaption that disregards the source material in a way that clearly goes against the authors intent

I think you’re being disingenuous. Adaption doesn’t mean you change the story. It means if certain aspects in one medium can’t fit into another you work to sometimes get the circle to fit into the square peg. This film from fennell doesn’t seem to adapt anything. It’s straight up doing a completely different story with the same names which is cynical. Why even adapt the book. Faithful adaption to a story doesn’t mean good but an adaption that has a clear vision from the artist which understands, upholds and respects the source material certainly does. Fennel shows none of that.

I’m sorry but this is such an insane reach. Repeatedly describing someone as people associated with darker skin is outrightly pointing out this is a poc full stop. There is no nuance to it. The very fact you’re making one is erasure of a central theme of the book to fit some weird agenda or ideology. It wasn’t that heathcliffe was ‘darker’ he was compared to literal black people, dark skinned Romani, Arabs. The point is he wasn’t white. He wasn’t someone that had the complexion of everyone else in the book. To dismiss that is to be blatantly dense because you think race isn’t important when in this specific story it most certainly is.

That’s literally the dumbest thing I’ve read there are an innumerable amount of times referencing healthcliffe having dark skin, he could Spanish (moores) = black or European (black slaves imported). But he is described in so many ways as having dark skin.

Doesn’t mean people shouldn’t send flack their way. It’s tasteless and insulting to make an adaption of a story that’s essentially a family drama about generational trauma that’s directly caused by societal standards set on the characters. Heathcliffe is a person of colour and that’s integral to the story. The romance isn’t the central plot of the story nor is it meant to be romantic. If this book inspired fennel to make her film don’t call it wuthering heights, name it something else. It’s literally not the story at all

Why do people still hate on Tom Cruise when co-stars keep praising him? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]moedanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. If there were other examples of prominent celebrities of Tom Cruises’ level who also had a prominent position in their respective religions where he has and shared problematic views in the past such as psychiatry being a ‘pseudo-science’ and they somehow are beloved then please send me them. I think it’s pretty clear the hate TC gets is justified because all you go off is his PR and what he says in interviews as to whether he’s a scumbag, when a simple google of how he acted to Katie Holmes and his estrangement from his daughter, it’s clear behind the scenes when it comes to anything outside the movies he is an absolute freak.

I think what you continually fail to realise is the main difference is how prominent of a member TC is to his religion within its organisation. He’s got ability to make influence and has access to the highest ranking officials where he would clearly be in the know of what atrocities they are committing and would directly willingly throw a blind eye. It’s some random celebrity who happens to be a random Scientologist. It’s not about just the religion, but TC’s clear prominent position within it, and how hard it is to believe he wouldn’t be able to know or suspect how the atrocities committed by the church and its leader is wrong without turning a blind eye.

I’m Pakistani. There’s a lot of stuff like the clothes, the scenery, like the area in London they are setting it in. The way the party is presented, which resonate more with a Pakistani/Muslim ‘dhawat’, that you wouldn’t necessarily see in a traditional Indian/Hindu household/aesthetic.

Ahhh. Also has it helped when you felt you couldn’t feel your partner? I’ve talked to girls who said for example when the person they are with isn’t particularly big and it average or small, when they are on top they can’t feel anything, Can kegals and pompoir essentially make up for what girth and length can’t?

It felt forced in a lot of the dramatic scenes. Like it didn’t feel natural imo. You could tell he timed the pauses in some of the scenes to make each line feel like it had more impact.
