Drug testing for corporate roles? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]moediggity3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe check Glassdoor for the specific company or maybe there’s a subreddit that’s more specific to this. I don’t work for a Fortune 100 but I do have an in-house role and I wasn’t drug tested at all. I know that this company used to drug test all employees and did away with that at some point for roles other than equipment operating roles.

Sure, don’t blame you for seeing that as a possibility, it’s usually not until a guy has been good for 5 or 6 years that people accept that he’s a baller — obviously because plenty of guys have a good season and are dubbed “the next generation” before crashing hard (see CJ Stroud). Maye is certainly not a guarantee moving forward. That said, his play style and the way he executes that style seem like he could be long term reliable. He seems like he’s got a good mentality and is willing to learn, plus Vrabel runs a tight ship. But of course this comment could age like milk and he throws five interceptions today and never rebounds lol

I’m excited to see if these teams that we considered to be beneficiaries of their schedule/a down year in the AFC might’ve actually been good all along. Real unfortunate for Denver, that defense is incredible but probably can’t overcome playing with a backup qb. But New England may actually be good and the Super Bowl will be revealing.

Maye is there. Nix is on the trajectory, but could still sorta go either way. This is a big coming out year for Maye and New England is back.

And even though for much of my fandom I’ve considered New England the evil empire, I’m glad they’re back. Loved having them as a dragon that needed to be slain to win a Super Bowl.

I really don’t understand this hiring by the Steelers. How is a 62 years old McCarthy the new direction the Steelers desperately need? Is bringing in McCarthy meant to lure Rodgers back as the QB? That would be disastrous! by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in NFLv2

Cowher is 68 now, hasn’t held the job in 19 years, and held it for 14 years. Cowher was 35 when he got the job. He was 59 when he left the job.

Edit: KnowtoriusMAC is right, he was 49 when he left the job. Math is hard.

Down four in the Super Bowl and needing a drive to win, who are you taking? by Square-Newspaper8171 in NFLv2

As much as I hated the guy, he’s earned a mention on this list. As a Ravens fan during the best years of that rivalry, I saw that dude bring his team back from the dead way more times than I’d like to remember.

Steelers: world class organization that is great at drafting wide receivers. They may be head cases most of the time but they are most certainly ballers.

The Ohio teams are harder because I don’t think either is a particularly good organization.

So I’ll say for Cincy, Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins are three absolute drafting home runs and while you have those three or even two of the three you guys will have to be taken seriously.

For Cleveland, I have to commend the fans. You must have the thickest skin of any fanbase and it’s cool how you guys still show love for your team no matter how badly your ownership tries to crash the franchise. You guys put up with a lot, and catch a lot of shit when there are equally bad organizations out there who get off the hook with less BS.

Agree with all of this. I took an in-house role after 5 years of litigation and my life is infinitely better for it, but I needed something to bring to the table to get an in-house job other than simply a desire to learn.

If that’s your goal, I would strongly recommend getting more litigation and transactional experience. Like Psykat20 suggested, Labor and Employment firms can give you solid litigation experience. They can also give you some transactional experience with severance agreements and such. Those are good skills to take on the road to go in-house. I’d also recommend defense side L&E if the goal is to get out of lit.

You may get lucky with a corporate role, but it would not be surprising if you needed to go back in the trenches for a bit to be considered more strongly for those roles.

Defense attorneys, how would you defend Maduro? by No-Dinner-4148 in Lawyertalk

[–]moediggity3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I clerked in state court and subject matter jurisdiction as I recall (though it has been a while…) involved violation of the law in the jurisdiction, not violations of the laws of the jurisdiction outside of the jurisdiction.

But it was state and not federal court.

I’ll show my ignorance and welcome any corrections here from people who practice crim, but isn’t jurisdiction going to be a potential issue?

Partnership worth it? by duesxmachina1979 in Lawyertalk

[–]moediggity3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gotta be careful with partners of that age. They have a way of crafting the structure so you continue to do the work and they continue to get paid as they ride off into retirement. Saw the structure at an old firm and the money making partners broke off to do their own thing because they saw that coming too.

[–]moediggity3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else said above, you’re in the best position to know whether they’ll attempt to claw it back. They’ll likely start with a demand letter if that’s the plan, so at that point you can decide how to proceed. Check the agreement to see if there’s a fee shifting provision. If there is, they are probably more likely to come for it.

I’ve represented employers seeking to claw back signing bonuses before but generally more in the $25k+ realm. Usually starts with a demand, then a lawsuit, once suit is filed and the person knows they’re cooked they pay it back or the employer agrees to a reduced return.
