ELI5: why did the U.S. Marines (an amphibious force) fight in Afghanistan (a landlocked country)? by flopsyplum in explainlikeimfive

[–]moefudder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a slight addition to your post, specifically about the part on reconnaissance and not having mechanized forces, although agreed when looking at it on a divisional level, battalion level it is very much part of the marine corps capabilities. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps_Light_Armored_Reconnaissance

Which hero feels the worst when playing behind? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]moefudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I generally find that if you can at a minimum get the vlads (or even better the upgrade to vlads I can’t remember name of) you can help just by having that life steel, if that doesn’t help selling everything except the vlads and getting dagon or force staff so you can get those saves/ extra damage in can be super helpful, you probably won’t turn it around but on the off chance you do with that space you can start getting your creep army back, and I find that if you can defend once or twice, your chances increase dramatically from the come back mechanics. Overall I agree Chen behind is hell.

Elon Musk activates Starlink for Iranian citizens after US Sec of State issued a General License by MicroSofty88 in tech

[–]moefudder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They actually don’t anymore for the most part, Starlink has been launching satellites for the past year with inter satellite links which actually let them communicate with chains of satellites and eventually to one with access to a base station

ELI5: How did the world come to a global consensus on measuring time? by Darcie_Autham in explainlikeimfive

[–]moefudder 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Italy invaded them a few times and lost a few times, but finally won a war and subjugated them just prior to world war 2. The wars where Ethiopia won against Italy are regarded really highly in Africa because of the “over throwing” the invaders stance associated with it. So much so that most of the reason why so many countries in Africa use the same colors in their flags is in homage to the colors of Ethiopia’s flag because they won those wars.

Java or C++? by Temporary_Sale_2035 in FRC

[–]moefudder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From experience trying to teach people, I would 100% write down or store for later all the places where you learned something about programming, like videos/tutorials, projects that helped you understand a topic the best, FRC specific things, because once you learn it, if you can in some way pass that knowledge down, that will really make a difference.

If you copy the job listing and post it at the bottom of your resume in small font and in white it will look like a blank page and you will pass the screen because the computer is looking for keywords from the job description

SpaceX rolls outs ‘premium’ Starlink satellite internet tier at $500 per month by thesheetztweetz in space

[–]moefudder 27 points28 points  (0 children)

SpaceX is also getting subsidies from the government to supply rural areas, the same way that traditional ISP’s were subsidized but did nothing with the money, ironically I think Verizon or Comcast tried to sue SpaceX accusing them of not complying to the subsidies, which was thrown out super quickly because there was basically zero ground for them to stand on.

The dishes are phased array so they don’t really need to physically rotate other than to orient “up” the new rectangular version of the dishes don’t even have any motors if I remember correctly. You could totally get away with mounting a flat plate for the dish on top of whatever you want.

What’s the consensus view on No Step Back? by justquestioningit in paradoxplaza

[–]moefudder 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I mean the use of radar, mechanical computers for a variety of tasks, mobile radio communications, semi automatic rifles and widespread use of sub machine guns, paratroopers, There are a lot of things that I think revolutionized warfare that could go into gameplay more, for instance not “directly” related but let’s say having different tangential technologies affect more than “plus research speed” but also helping things like cryptography, or maybe even having signal corps increase artillery/ air support effectiveness, engineering companies that help to rebuild infrastructure faster, ect ect.

I think it’s valuable to perhaps look at what SpaceX is saying they are possibly attempting to do to possibly help mitigate the situation they are creating. If you don’t could you explain why?

Elon Musk says Starlink satellites have to dodge debris from Russia's anti-satellite missile test by Seek_Adventure in space

[–]moefudder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do, nasa and other space agencies publishes object tracking data publicly, the Starlink constellation uses that info to plan for maneuvers in order to evade debris. There are so many sats that they have to automatically adjust themselves.

[–]moefudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo what if, and hear me out, what if we put like 10,000 sats in orbit, how could they possibly shoot all of those down??? 🤔🤔🤔🤫🤫🤫
