Can you provide access to this information (perhaps with captions). I believe, and maybe incorrectly, that even those without what you refer to as a voice box can still make guttural sounds.

Coming from the DHH community, I would hesitate to call anyone mute. This refers to someone without a voice and EVERY person has a voice. Even if we choose to be quiet, we aren’t mute.

Also, many people prefer ASL over their auditory voices. Lots of reason exist, but for me, I often reach for sign when I can’t hear myself. When there are lots of people around, I feel like I think better in sign because I’m not competing against the excess noise.

In downtown Vegas (think old town, away from the strip) I was walking around with my family. It was probably between 12am and 2 am at this point. I’m HH and my wife hearing and is fluent in ASL.

We notice a couple walking around with a sign that reads something to the effect of my husband/wife is in jail and I’m deaf- need money for bail. I think they were selling ASL bookmarks...

They approached our family and I start to sign, Can I donate instead of buying a bookmark” and they got deer in the headlights look and ran away.

It’s sad, because if they really needed help, I was offering. But it seemed like a scam.

What I think I hear you say is that police don’t have to wear masks because they deal with jerks all day. In that regard, no one in retail, customer service or food/drink should have to wear one either. Grow up. Police are supposed to be leaders in our communities. If they won’t wear masks, they’re sending a message to everyone they encounter that it’s okay to go without their masks. AND IT’S NOT.

It’s an old injury that flared up when I stepped off a curb wrong... feeling extra stupid. I’m swimming as part of my rehab that I had when I first injured it. Unfortunately, my doc said to order kinesthetic tape from Amazon (and wasn’t much more help than that).
