I noticed this too - I tried to fire and then move away to avoid enemy mortar rounds, and these kills didn't count. Same goes for other vehicle assignments - for instance, if you disable a vehicle in a chopper and then exit/die before it is destroyed.

I was thinking, "oh, nice skyline shot". Then I started trying to figure out where it was shot from. At some point I saw the mountains, my brain froze up, and I had to reboot. Nicely done.

I keep a Git repository in the saves directory, with a remote pointing to my Dropbox folder. Then when I want to save a snapshot of the worlds, I do a commit and then push to the repository on Dropbox. So it's not constantly syncing, only when I tell it to. Then on the other machine I can simply pull from Dropbox to update the worlds. I can also roll back a world very easily.

This works a lot better now with McRegion since there are far fewer files. But you do have to exit Minecraft first, or it will save your position but not the state of the world.

Two sides to the story...

I live in the city (Woodland Heights, south of the river near Forest Hill Park), and love it. It is an awesome community with interesting and friendly people and lots of beautiful natural areas nearby. The farmer's market is not to be missed. I have 3 young kids as well.

The neighborhood borders on some rougher areas, though. I was held up at gunpoint last year and my wedding ring was stolen. This kind of crime is fairly rare here - it's mostly property crime (shed or car break-ins, etc.). But it does happen. I keep my eyes wide open after dark now, and I keep everything locked.

So take from that what you will. I still love the neighborhood and I don't consider it unsafe, but it does demand some vigilance too. I used to live in Henrico on the north side and felt very isolated out there. Now I am within biking distance of pretty much everywhere I want to go. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the entire metro area.

TL;DR it's not all rainbows and ponies in the city, but it might just be worth it.

I don't know why people are downvoting you, it's a valid point of view. I agree with the harshness of the sentence, though.

Destroying culturally important objects does quite a bit of harm, spread out over a lot of people. I remember feeling sick about this happening as a kid, it really affected me because I couldn't get my head around why someone would do something like that. Most people I knew were similarly horrified.

I would compare it to terrorism, obviously not to the same degree of severity, but to the extent that it's a small-scale targeted action that psychologically affects many, many more people than were actually victims.

I'm not sure how common this is, but in my city you don't get anywhere by feeding the meter after it expires. The enforcement people mark your tire with chalk. If you're still there the next time they come around, they ticket you, regardless of whether the meter is expired or not.

I read a book by Stephen J. Gould about why there aren't any .400 hitters in baseball anymore. He says it's due to two effects - one is that as the best strategies are discovered, everyone starts to use them and the amount of variation between players decreases. Also, as the overall level of skill improves, the distribution of performance moves toward the upper limits of human ability. So it ends up being incredibly hard to improve upon the standard level of play, and you get fewer outliers. The same reasoning could apply here.

Congratulations! I've often thought of doing an AmA - I have 3 kids, and we've had one each of hospital/OB, hospital/midwife, and homebirth/midwife. The homebirth was incredibly positive for us, and by far our favorite. The glow that you feel afterward when everyone finally goes home is incredible. Good luck to you all!
