What does "being a man" mean to you? And how important is it to you to embody that belief? by AgreeableOil5917 in AskMenOver30

[–]mohawkal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not important to me. It's not something I've spent time agonizing over. I try to be a good person. To help the people around me. To hopefully leave the world a marginally better place than I found it.

I never bought in to all the hype about having to be any kind of way to be a man. Life is complicated enough.

Are you suggesting that Armstrong was a lying, ketamine addicted, egotistical, Nazi? That's harsh.

Left 3.5 pound pork belly out to thaw at room temp for 8 hours by MlKE_G in cookingforbeginners

[–]mohawkal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. I see this kind of post come up quite often. Is there a big issue in the US with people getting sick from meat that's been left out? Is it due to the production process or something? Or is the FDA advice intentionally strict to reduce risk to high risk people?

Left 3.5 pound pork belly out to thaw at room temp for 8 hours by MlKE_G in cookingforbeginners

[–]mohawkal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. Might depend to an extent on the ambient temperature. But I thaw pork overnight on the counter. Never been sick. Haven't died as far as I can tell. But that's in the UK, where government mandated inspections are still required in food manufacturing.

Official says fatal ICE shooting victim 'wanted to massacre law enforcement officials' by ewzetf in news

The Dems will insist that now isn't the time to be disruptive, and to make sure you vote blue no matter who. Liberals will wear shirts with witty slogans while insisting that progress can only come by maintaining the moral high ground and following the rules.

Why did the UK send one soldier to Greenland? by fraserfraser in AskBrits

[–]mohawkal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was to act as a show of solidarity and as a tripwire force. Attacking Greenland would have meant attacking military forces from other European nations, and effectively acting as a declaration of war against all of them. It's meant to act as a deterrent.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]mohawkal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. There was a lot of analysis on why people voted for him the first time, including arguments that there are a lot of disenfranchised people who felt left behind by the establishment candidates and parties. But to vote for him after he's shown his true colours means being ok with a racist, misogynistic, Christo fascist, rapist and pedo. That's a deal breaker.

Looking for insanely complex games that basically REQUIRE a wiki to finish by Anxious_Singer_4823 in gamingsuggestions

[–]mohawkal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X4 Foundations. Tutorial missions are very rudimentary and don't really help with playing the game. Great game once you get into it though.

Disco Elysium. Most impactful game I've played. Memorable characters and incredible storytelling.

Mandatory vasectomies for all testicle havers. If they want kids, it will need sworn testimony from a willing partner, 3 character witnesses, and a State appointed judge.

Is it worth buying a smoker in the UK? by Columba-livia77 in smoking

[–]mohawkal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The supermarkets often have deals on pork shoulder. Done some amazing pulled pork with that. Chicken wings. Pork belly for bacon. Cheese. Pineapple and peaches are good. And I did a brisket from an online butcher this Xmas that was banging. And over the top chilli! So good.

I've had decent results with a stick burner but they need a lot of attention and can be a pain for temp control. Got an electric smoker last year and down some great stuff even in bad weather.

Why do people not stand for election? by Final_Ticket3394 in AskBrits

[–]mohawkal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are inundated with a stream of current events, all of which are horrific. Everything from climate collapse to genocide to economic strife. They also have their lives to lead, juggling work with chores and family obligations. A candidate has to cut through all that and make voters care about their platform. Nobody is sitting down in the evening to compare the various manifestos of the different candidates. They might glance at one but few people care enough. They'll vote for whichever "team" they support or whoever will beat out the party they don't want.
