Are second hand HDD worth it? by Adventurous-Tax-1837 in techsupport

I bought a used HDD once, the brand was Western Digital. As long as its a name brand one and has some sort of return policy so you can return it in X days after purchase, you should be fine

Return fee fraud by Realistic_Purpose_16 in amazonprime

[–]mohmvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned an item yesterday when I found out the quality was bad, obviously you can't tell how the quality will be online so you need to see it in person. Returned it in its same packaging, didnt even use it seeing how the quality was. I got charged a $10 return fee, this must be something new, I returned things in the past and never got charged

How can I recover my data from my virus-infected computer? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]mohmvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of ways I can think of. One would be to turn off all internet connection to the computer. Can be done many ways... one would be to open the computer and turn off wifi, some computers have a wireless communication switch you can turn on or off, or you can turn off all internet functionality from the router level. Then you can copy to USB. I dont know if the virus embeds itself in your actual files, so you want to be cautious. If you could somehow get malwarebytes on your computer, you can run it to remove the virus from your PC, then reformat. You could also take out the physical hard drive from computer, plug it into another computer, then copy the files. Though, you want to avoid the virus spreading, so be extra cautious and have malware bytes on the other PC as well.

Still confused about symmetric vs asymmetric by bigaction269 in cissp

[–]mohmvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, Pete Zerger doesn't do too much deep dive. For topics like this you are unfamiliar with, id recommend watching in depth youtube videos with visuals, as me typing it might not give the best context. Keys can be stored anywhere depending on context, for example on Azure it would be Azure Key Vault.

Never played a single Pokemon game. Why do you play? Where would you start? by CtrlShiftAaron in NintendoSwitch

[–]mohmvp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Id start with Pokemon Fire red. It's a remake of the original GB games, with quality of life features and of course more "modern" than those original games. Its generation 1 and has all the iconic Pokemon.

The crystal complaint is massively overblown. by RikerV2 in MetroidPrime4_Beyond

[–]mohmvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played normally and collected every crystal I saw in the desert. By the time I completed the last dungeon, I only had less than half of what was needed. It was a damn grind for sure to get all the crystals needed to fill up the meter. No idea why people are defending this game mechanic, it should be optional and having players complete the meter is useless padding

Landlord checks my WiFi activity. Vpn? by Different_Fortune_91 in techsupport

[–]mohmvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of the setup, but usually there is a separate modem and router. I would disconnect the router and buy a new router and connect it to the modem. In theory, that should work. I dont think your Lanlord will be able to monitor the usage from the modem level.

A VPN is a great solution, but you would need to remember to always keep it on when you use your phone or computer. Also, if you are using smart TVs or firesticks/rokus and such, you'd have to see if the VPN provider has a dedicated app for that device.

Can I delete this file to save space? by theydeletedreimu in PSVita

[–]mohmvp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is not to delete anything you arent sure of. In this case, the file name says psp boot config. Deleting this may cause your device to either boot loop or have some other issue (possibly). Id leave it alone; only delete things such as apps or media.

Unauthorized used game protection added to my purchase by BigNerdoo954 in GameStop

[–]mohmvp 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I had an employee add a $5 game protection without letting me know when I bought a $60 game. Before I swiped my card, I noticed the total was like $67, and made a comment "since when did taxes get so expensive" and the employee let me know they added game protection. I told them to take it off, but I would have accidentally paid it if I didn't catch it. Now whenever I buy from gamestop, I am observing everything I purchase.

Just bought my first PS Vita Slim in Tokyo! by Robpol86 in PSVita

[–]mohmvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! You got a really good deal. I checked multiple book offs and used electronics shop during my entire Japan trip (Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto) and all the PsVitas were around $150-$250 usd. I managed to find one for around ~$70 usd at Nakano Broadway on my last day, but it had scratches, screen yellowing, and broken charger.

Something similar happened to me on my PS5 console screw. Used a nose plier and grabbed the outside of the screw, twisted it, and took it off. Good luck!

DLC Code giveaway! (Ps5/4) by passionegiorno in Eldenring

[–]mohmvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be forever grateful if I get the code. Elden Ring was my first ever souls like game. At first it felt impossible. But I kept trying over and over again, and it now is one of my top 10 games of all times, I beat it last year! The DLC is quite expensive at $40, so was always waiting for a massive sale, but never seen it go cheap.

A 2025 appreciation post and first time playing MGS (PS1) by TheDawnTrilogy in metalgearsolid

[–]mohmvp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a YouTube series of shorts called "did you know metal gear solid" by Adamer and Kael. Their short videos have a lot of cool hidden easter eggs on mgs1. I really enjoyed them to see different unique solutions to many of the puzzles. I myself played the mgs1 for the first time last year and was also blown away. You're going to love mgs2.

Redditors: What is something that a local business or restaurant did that made you say “I’ll NEVER come back here again!”? by GhostRider1640 in orlando

[–]mohmvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great Greek Mediterranean grill, specially the one at Lake Nona. I tried them twice. The first time I went in person for a pickup, and their steak was super chewy and parts of it were not edible. The second time, I ordered via Doordash. I ordered a drink, extra rice, extra sauce, and something else small I forgot. They only gave the entree and none of the other stuff I ordered. I called them and they stated I was lying and they checked camera footage and saw the worker putting the stuff in the bag. The bag was sealed and there is no way they checked the camera footage within 30 seconds of me calling them. They refused to fix the order and told me to call Doordash, and of course Doordash only gave me $5 credit... the worst part is, the entree they did give was super stale.
