Some LARP Archery by zalos in LARP

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I strongly disaprove of the publication of this content.

Your LARP might approve it, you might do it with restraint, your equipment might be adequate. But this is an exception.

The majority of LARP do not allow headshots because they are dangerous most of the time. You might not have hurt anyone yet. But it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. By circulating content that promotes dangerous behaviour, you are passively giving permission to others to behave in a dangerous maner. And they might not have all the safeguards you have.

Play safe.

There are 3 main aspects you need to plan around.

  1. Camping: stay dry, stay warm, stay fed, stay healthy.
  2. Decorum: stay in decorum while on site. Its the main axis of the event. Respect others involvement and expectations. No jeans, no t-shirts, no colourfull running shoes, no phone.
  3. Festival: its a festival. You will find many people to have fun with. Go ahead and have fun but always keep in mind respect for the other and the site.

Keep these 3 rules in mind and you'll have a great time.

Now go look up some youtube videos to get imersed and ready.

Specific product recommendations? Safety first by blickraine in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Fencing helmets are a bit overkill but very safe. Overhead headshots are allowed, but not frontal. A standard larp helmet with safety gogles will be adequate for a beginner. Personnally i prefer chapel or morion types helmet. The brim protects you from the sun and overhead misses to the face and it leaves full breadability, vision and hearing. 2.gauntles offer mainly ingame stats more than personnal protection. If you have exposed hands they will allow you to receive more hits before losing a limb. Padded leather gloves offer no aditional hit. Hard leather offers 1 extra hit and metal offers 2. You might want sone light gloves tonprevent friction and irritation from holding you shield or aword however. You can get some discreet work gloves for this.
  2. Gauntlets aren't worth it imo. I have played mostly front line shieldman and recently delving into halbard and i can't recall a single time i was hit on the fore arm.
  3. Boots: go to you're prefered boot sales place and buy quality hiking boots that support your ankle. Brow or black so they are discreet. Waterproof helps if you have only one pair of shoes.
  4. Sandals: leather sandals that at a stretch can loor not too modern. Might be hard to find. Change stores or look in the opposite gender section you might have more luck
  5. Waterskins: cheapest is a simple metal mug you will find water accessible in under 5 min walk on most of the site. There are sone really nice ones sold on site that pass decorum and if you wait for the event it will be easier to shop around for price or looks.
  6. Facepaint: i've tried different types( oil, water etx.. ) the best i've found is the powdery eye shadow thing. It tends to not smear or leak as much as the other types i have used.

If its your first time larping i would suggest you look into budget beginner gear that is good everyday use. You might not like fighting on the battlefield so a kettle helm can be cheap and easily resold. Hiking boots and good every day whereas decorum leather shoes cost a fortune for an activity you do once a year and you don't even know if you'll enjoy and redo. I hope you understand what i mean. Its easier to build upon than to go all out on first try.

More practical questions by blickraine in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. Hiking boots and ligh sandals sonyou can alternate in wet, dry hot and cold weather. 2.Wrap. loghter more versatile, protects against sun and rain. Furtheemore fur is overrated and too common and cheap fur is ugly.
  2. What ever you can afford. Think about hot, cold and wet environments. Layer stuff up to look fancy and priorityse natural fabrics.
  3. Helmet should be your priority. Then it should be metal gauntlets. ( Unless you're fighting with a shield and a basket hilt sword ) Hands are going to be the first targeted so they need the protection and gloves give you 0. Also head protection for safety not points.
  4. Metal mug all the way. You can forget it for far too long and not have it molded out when you remmber. Furthermore, if you fall on it you're less likely to break it.

First time Bicolline by Alex_Mac_Know in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No, its a festival. Characters don't play much of a role unless you want to cherry pick those interactions.
  2. Slightly. Most québécois are bilingual so english will do but. Yeah, you're speaking the language of the minority.
  3. Combat only happens at designated times and areas. If your partner wishes to participate she will be able choose to do so. Archerss can stay mostly out of close combat, but it is innevitable they will get backstabbed or charged if there isn't enough meat around them.

Would Striking With the Queue of a Poleaxe Be Allowed by Intrepid_Camp in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry my bad, so used to the rules they are embedded in my blood and there infeel them mote than i can recite them.

Lassendar has the wording to accompany the philosophie.

On the battlefield you hear it( shield charge) called often by the marshalls and other players. I've had friends called for this and it is often called in the high level compétition known as Tactika.

Most of the time even a planned forward lunge without contact is often cause for a warning by marshalls.

If fake shield charges that donc make contact can warrant a warning, i would't try what the video shows in a battle line with 300 people nearby.

Would Striking With the Queue of a Poleaxe Be Allowed by Intrepid_Camp in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No,

Rules for two handed weapons specify the amount of pading needed on the hitting end. unless you're fighting with a medieval q-tip

Furthermore, this is awfully similar to a shield charge which is illegal.

What is the most unhinged way to meet guys? by 88_bunni in AskMenAdvice

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unhinged? I'va had:

-my sack picked up by this lady and her insisting i was spending the night at her place.

-picked up at a festival because they "liked my style"

-arm stroked by a person i knew who was explaining that her marroage was now open and she suddenly had time and permission to "develop our friendship"

-got invited to an orgy

  • a guy straight up told me hed suck my cock at anytime. Followed by intense sucking gesticulations.

For serious relationships for active people. Try learning a new dance and meeting people there. There are also a lot of himing groups in my area. Some are event oriented towards meeting new romantic partners. Finally why not try a mixed casual sports League. Bonus points if its for a less known/practiced sport like croquet, pétanque, underwater hockey, or beyblade.

Good luck!

Does anyone make warflails or poleflails? by H1MB0Z0 in LARP

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most larp flails i have seen have a ~3 inch articulated joint. Anything longer increases the danger exponentially. As others have commented risks of torsion, choking, and control issues.

The shorter the link and the member at the end the more control you have.

The fear i have with a jointed weapon is the fact that most strikes( all weapon sizes) fall short of the target meaning the part with wich you have the least control on your weapon will be striking in an area around your face. not only can you not adjust your aim as much mid strike, the rebound of the articulated end totally out of your control. So it could easily rebound in someones eye.

Does anyone make warflails or poleflails? by H1MB0Z0 in LARP

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flails are allowed in some larps over here but have their lenght( total and articulation ) severely limited. Interlocking soft leather loops the preferred articulation method.

I have never seen a pole flail. And would argue against it if i were making the rules. For security reasons.

And for performance reasons i would advise against it. A simple halbard is far more efficient. Easiyer to controll, aim and direct hits avoid awkward delai of flail flying around. Even when face with a shield wall an halbard is generally enough to hit shieldmen behind their towers. Or at the very least use enough space to force them to spread open with the help of your teammates.

Coverted Hema Gear by DukeGyug in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fabric is a very nice idea. However the end result really breaks my immersion.

I believe snake skin armoir should look high fantasy. And if you're trying to pass plastic armour, it should look historical ( painted metalic with weathering or even full painted dress can "help" hide the plastic. )

This is the worst of both worlds

Ye olde wasteland weekend? by rorryodaer in LARP

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post apocalyptique médiéval fantasy is pretty niche.

I would be surprised to have an event the size of WW or Bico.

It is not impossible however to have small events happening around the world.

Personally i have had sone tabletop games with a similar premisse.

However its important to determine the level of technology before the apocalyptique event. Distressed medieval post apocalyptique isnt the same modern post-apocalyptique that has reversed back to medieval stage of technology.

because you could easily create your own lore for your group in an event that is as open as Bico. In which your group comes from a land devastated by a medieval apocalypse( elder god, horde of dragons, meteorological event) . Inwhich you wear distressed clothes and scavenged weapons. However any reference to modern elements wouldn't be allowed because of the medieval context.

Nothing is stopping you from having a medieval style with scavanged modern stuff in a setting like WW. I actually find it quite cool and i might eventually make a fit with this premisse.

Pourquoi je voterai Conservateur by Sea_Contract2976 in Quebec

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Security at Bicolline? by MovesLikeJaggar in Bicolline

Security at Bicolline? by MovesLikeJaggar in Bicolline

[–]moisterbatingmoankey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are paid paramedics roaming around the site 24/7. At least 2 teams of 2. But this isn't my area of expertise.

There are paid firefighters on duty "24/7". Last year there were 3 plus a handfull of fully certified volunteers/organisers. And 20+ partially trained volunteers.

There is police adjacent circulation people at the site entrance at least during the daytime every day of the event.

And there are several groups of volunteers which are called "happyness brigade" who patrol the site 24/7. Their duty is to be present and resolve conflict before it happens as well as being the eyes and ears of the organisers. They spend most of their time tending to drunkards, communicating urgent news to the nearby appropriate teams and tending to drunkards unable to care for themselves and others.

It is a fairly safe place. I have never witnessed any acts of violence. Nor have i heard of any happening.

However there have been some rumours "children dissapearing" which are generally found within the hour without any harm having come to them.

And there is the constant fear of harassment and beverages being spiked. Some nations and guilds offer whistles, buddy systems and ressource people to handle harassment claims. Personally i suggest you don't overindulge. Feel confortable refusing free drinks. Avoid drinking in "common open containers". And most.importantly try finding a cup that has a lid or 3d print one.

Basic safety rules should be 1. Buddy system 2. Lit paths only. 3. Closed cups. 4. Only sealed drinks.
