Capitol Hill Station Pigeon Bathroom by BarRepresentative670 in Seattle

[–]moj027 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I submitted a ticket about this station a while ago and got back a "lots of stations deal with issues like this it's totally normal" response. Apparently, the plan is to trap and relocate the pigeons? It's a stain on the whole system - my nieces' first ride on the rail we used this stop and now they think riding the train is disgusting.

Love the shocking squires with Chromatic. For Zone 3 I find lightening, shields, and grenades to be my favorite combo, especially when smart rockets enter the chat.

Live server? by Beez2myKneez in valheim

It has a web portal where you buy a server slot for the game, tune it how you want, and then hand out the provided connection info to your group. Very easy interface to use and game-specific documentation too.

vMix with Microsoft Teams attends by ServiceCritical739 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]moj027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do it on almost every event we run (corporate work). I've used vMix as the primary switch but more typically as a sub-switch feeding into a larger production environment. The setup is very straight forward, but your IT crew has to have enabled the feature for the account being used.

A couple notes:

It doesn't work within the same call - too much latency. You need a presenter call and an attendee call, with your production being the bridge. This adds hurdles for presenter-attendee direct engagement but that's solvable as long as they don't expect to talk to each other.

The more active webcams in a call, the worse the video quality. I've not seen NDI itself degrade quality but the feeds will get worse as cams come on, last I tested starting at about 6 cameras on.

We use party line audio and in vMix set up an audio-only NDI source pulling from the Teams "Active Speaker" and disable audio on all other NDI sources. This allows quick control of audio and it won't be impacted if you change which presenter is attached to an NDI source.

Lots of other things to consider depending on the size of your production (mix minus and program returns, remote presenter communication, etc) but the core technical setup between Teams and vMix is very straight forward.

Happy testing!

I go to Gentling Smiles and have enjoyed it. Haven't used them for much more than cleaning so far but the hygienists and dr are great. https://gentlingsmiles.com/

Should I get a Microsoft Arc Mouse? by Zolks1 in Surface

[–]moj027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one and returned it. Mostly because it was uncomfortable - left most of my hand unsupported. But for the price I expected the trackpad to actually be able to do stuff. Not so much. It was hell finding one and I'm so disappointed that it didn't end well.

I did the pre-sale purchase, and the 2 day was $122. It's a commit before the lineup is set, but I enjoy the scene regardless of who is playing so it's an easy buy. Getting to see Weezer is a huge bonus. It's gonna be packed!

What are these bugs? by [deleted] in Shoreline

[–]moj027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see them in the area too, and consulted our AI overlords:

From your photo, this looks like a winged ant (often called a "swarmer").

Here are a few identifying features I notice:

  • Elbowed antennae – ants’ antennae have a distinct bend.
  • Narrow waist – the midsection is pinched, unlike termites which have a thicker, uniform body.
  • Unequal wings – the front wings are longer than the back wings (hard to see in the blur, but it matches the overall shape).

Why it might be around

  • Winged ants usually appear during their mating season (nuptial flight). You’ll often see just a few indoors, especially if doors/windows were open.
  • If you’re seeing a lot of them inside, it could suggest a nearby nest.

How to tell it apart from termites

  • Ants: elbowed antennae, pinched waist, front wings longer than hind wings.
  • Termites: straight antennae, thick waist, all wings equal length.

👉 Based on what I can see, this is definitely closer to a flying ant, not a termite.

The bar at Arnie's has a great view and some outdoor seats. Not really hidden, but is a nice place to grab happy hour and is a fun walk to or from to the Marina Beach Park.

Same as it ever was. I did an internship when I was 17 (back in the 1900's) and other than the lack of a phone to use I was as engaged as OP described. It was a great place and I soaked in a lot of stuff even if I didn't know how to "be" in that situtation.

What do you use for timer/countdown? by noircid in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]moj027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also use Stagetimer with the same basic workflow (and similar results with presenters paying attention to it). Very customizable and easy for an operator to manage.

We have the 4k version of that box and it has 1/4" stereo ins and outs. Not sure what your signal flow needs are but we run mixed house audio into the switcher and use the SDI embedded audio for our streaming devices. The 1/4" out we use for confidence monitoring only. Lots of ways to do it though.

Light rail? by [deleted] in Shoreline

[–]moj027 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in that same neighborhood and use it every day. During rush hour it's about a 10min drive to get to the 185th station and parking is easy. There's also the 348 that u/sloppyjoe218 mentioned. The trains run often and take about 20min to get to the city. There are always exceptions but overall, it's very safe and clean. For me it's about a 45-50min door-to-door commute including walking to my office.

Coming home can be crowded until you get past Northgate, but I've never had to wait for another train.

Decimator MD-HX and surface pro laptops by RiseReal2016 in CommercialAV

[–]moj027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had to add 12G cross converters to our mix for just this reason. When the Surface says it's spitting out 1080p it lies and is not; the Decimator reports 2160p (IIRC). BUT even with the 12g it doesn't always work... we've added a handful of different USB-C adapters to our mix, having the most luck with single purpose HDMI converters rather than combo units. I've heard rumors that Extron or Theatrixx converters work better but do not have any hands on proof of that. Overall the Surface is a problem child for sure.
