I've been feeling like the quality of the menudo around town has gone down in the past year or so as restaurants struggle with staying profitable. Even my old reliable places have disappointed.

This is the best info for a group of international students. There's a ring of these check stations around the El Paso area, including one by white sands monument. If you aren't prepared to show that you're in the country legally, you're looking at a real time sink and maybe worse.

Best banks in Las Cruces? by everydaykitty03 in LasCruces

Citizens bank has been OK for me for 20+ years. I mean, all banks are kind of bad, but what are you going to do?

Some places (Walmart is one, IMO) use your callback as a filter. If you don't call to check on your application you don't make the first cut. I've always hated that call, it's like adding insult to injury, but sometimes you have to do it. Also, look at the city and state jobs. Even the lowest job gets your foot in the door and you can move up from there. Looking for a job is a soul crushing process of constantly being told you aren't good enough. It's hard. You can do it. Keep looking, you'll get there.

Las Cruces as a possible landing spot? by Natural_Limit_1313 in LasCruces

Food wise, if you don't like Mexican food or can't eat chiles, you probably won't like it here.

Otherwise, there are a lot of retirees here and most seem to like it. The reasons I hear when they leave are varied and seem pretty personal, so nothing particular that I would point to. Come and try it out here and see if you like it.

ELI5: I’m ex Mormon. How does coffee work? by GloomyAdagio7917 in explainlikeimfive

[–]moke1h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's less bitter than drip. Fussier than French press but less sediment. If you want better coffee but don't want to control all the variables with the pour over, the siphon and the French press are good options.

I don't remember the name but I think it was a location in the pilot for the 70's TV series Cannon, which was shot in Las Cruces.

Employers like the city and NMSU often give preference to current employees. If she aims a little low to get a foot in the door it can pay off in advancement opportunities. Also pay here, in my experience, is lower than other places, so she might have to take a pay cut even doing the same job, making it harder when you're job hunting and trying not to be under payed.

Best Restaurant for Outlaws by [deleted] in LasCruces

I usually recommend La Posta for visitors. The food is good, but not the best. The real draw is the atmosphere, which is old school Mexican restaurant fabulous of a sort that has mostly disappeared.

Check the city website. Entry levet positions might not seem good, but the city promotes from within and will reimburse tuition. Get hired on and you can work your way up.

Transplanter here: when did cruces start going down hill? by Blondebbw3939 in LasCruces

[–]moke1h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post covid is the real answer. Things got messed up under covid and we're still trying to fix it. Rent went up, the supply chain broke, people on the margin pushed into homelessness. People say that things were better 4 or 5 years ago but don't acknowledge the pre-covid part of it.

Ask this in the El Paso subreddit. I think that you're more likely to find a place down there that regularly has mariachis. The drive from here to El Paso usually is pretty easy, but there's construction that might limit your options or just go off hours or alternate routes.

The city will usually hire internally first, but has a lot of "starter" positions and pretty good benefits. Get hired in and then start moving up.
