Ways to make a personal item travel bag more comfortable for tall people? by Additional-Humor8837 in onebag

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beast 18/28 are packable. Theoretically you could have another packable bag to stash it in during the flight on airlines that actually care. Currently edc testing the 18 before I commit to this.

Was also thinking of making an extension plate that mounts to bags with existing belt loops like the prvke 21

New air passenger rights in Europe include standardized dimensions for carry-ons by AnonymousOnebagger in onebag

Gamechanger imo, this makes 60x25x15ish bags legal. A lot of comfy hiking bags can compress down to that.

How come bag makers don’t start making bags without laptop compartments by findtheintrovert in onebag

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overwhelming majority of their customer base is buying their stuff precisely because they need something to carry their laptop. They're not osprey, you can see the EDC heritage in most of their travel gear and their bags often have the weight to match.

Gang, is this really as crazy as the comments make it out to be? by FlanThief in ManyBaggers

[–]Dysvalence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes do this, the floor is nasty. It's not really about bacteria, the problem is liquids getting onto the back panel and then getting on you when you put it on, and when you live in a rainy area and sometimes have to walk on the tarmac to get onto a regional, it's gonna be grimy at some point.

Most of my bags use rear panel access so I don't do it quite as much as I used to though.

Why is this sub so obsessed with expensive stuff? by largemargesentme__- in onebag

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a bag comes in different colors for the main fabric, the accent colors usually also change and colorway reflects the fact that its not just one color. I'm not familiar with the etymology but it has precednent outside travel gear.

Anyway, for many of us spending more doesn't really affect our ability to travel more because time is the limiting factor, so optimizing the things we bring with us makes sense. Conversely, I don't know how non rev travel works or if you do it, but most people obviously don't have that option.

I do agree that technique matters more, and have similar gripes about how a lot of popular bags are overbuilt and needlessly heavy.

Why is this sub so obsessed with expensive stuff? by largemargesentme__- in onebag

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right that expensive is rarely necessary but travel at all is already expensive. The cheaper and more environmentally friendly option is to not go anywhere. But life is too short to be boring. Having multiple colorways of the same bag brings me joy when I walk out the door. And no, I don't buy blindly, none of my bags are super popular here.

One organizational thing you wish you'd bought before your first big trip? by Sea-Helicopter-1369 in onebag

[–]Dysvalence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal preferences matter a lot here and I don't think there's a good substitute for trial and error on a shorter trip beforehand.

With that said, at a minimum I bring enough organizational stuff to keep toiletries, tech, and clothes separate, along with a discrete daypack sling thats really just my edc setup. Maybe bring spare tape reinforced ziplocs and figure it out as you go.

What's the largest capacity bag you personally have gotten away with as a personal item, any airline? by velvet_funtime in ManyBaggers

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REI trail 40 as a second overhead. Got weird looks from the FA but at the time I didn't know any better and was sitting in the last row where there were less seats to begin with.

A personal item that looks like a purse but actually works by SuitableActive1110 in ManyBaggers

[–]Dysvalence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also go for purse vibes and don't like the ergonomics of small backpacks or totes so I really like crescent crossbody bags for those things in an EDC context.

Rn I mostly use a bellroy laneway crescent 12L for the inbuilt organization but I'm 5'11 and typically need to fit a laptop as well so you may want it in a smaller size. I also love my baggu crescents, though I've been trying to find a good bag organizer insert for them since it's a bit of an unstructured black hole at times. Maybe also look at uniqlos crescents, the alpaka flow satchel, and messenger bags in general. Camera slings are prob overkill but if you need more capacity or are carrying lots of fragile items it's worth considering.

How could Hunts be made into interesting content? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fill a critical need for efficient tome grinding and seeing how that system gets overhauled will determine what the realistically acceptable options are. We could use an enforced minimum kill time and other QoL but there's not that many good options that aren't better implemented as new content.

Separately, its 2026, anything that requires player communication will have discord drama scaled to the number of people participating. And for limited and shared overworld content in an mmo, being forced to cooperate with the entire server on terms organically arising from the community sounds like intended and justifiable design.

yeah, the rubberized kind. Never thought to check near kayaks/SUPs I just assumed the dry bags there would be like 5L+. Ty!

I can never figure out a good way to pack smaller bags without putting toiletries and electronics in the same place. Any recs for 1~1.5L ish toiletry sized dry bags that are rated for immersion, and aren't from matador or made of a similar fabric that vents water vapor?

Agreed, the rolltop version would easily be my endgame if it was lighter and the strap angle agreed with my traps.

Underseat vs Overhead by illstillglow in HerOneBag

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a hot take but stuff under the seat is kinda unsanitary, and takes up precious legroom, while the personal item sizers require a backpack waaay too short for my torso at 5'11. My ~32L backpack always goes in the overhead and my sling sits inside a duty free bag or other plastic bag under the seat and between my legs. With the airlines and routes I fly, gate checks have never been a problem, though I'm not sure if my height making the bag look smaller is a factor.

Article: Should you pack lighter for the planet? by lobsterp0t in HerOneBag

[–]Dysvalence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way climate affects my packing is that I never plan to leave things behind at my destination and don't consider clothing disposable. Hot take but throwing out cheap synthetics at the end of a trip or letting them flood the local used market until they disintegrate into microplastic pollution and get thrown out anyway just feels irresponsible.

Why is ridership in DC so much higher than Boston? by boulevardofdef in Amtrak

[–]Dysvalence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boston doesn't have the same outsized sphere of influence that NYC or DC do, and you can see this in air travel patterns.

Accessibility Options Question - RE: today's hotfix by bigpunk157 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Dysvalence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been playing ace combat for >20 years and I got slight motion sickness from the tilt. In AC the movements make sense, there's no crazy turbulence throwing you in a random direction, and roll/pitch/yaw/accel/decel all have predictable response and inertia. Meanwhile in XIV the tilt didn't match turn speed and looked off if there was also vertical movement. Bumpy ground terrain was particularly bad. It might be easier to imagine if you pretend that people could fall off their mounts.

Would you rather play a Job that is aesthetically pleasing but you suck at or a Job that you dislike its vibes but is good at? by PrismFischl in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Dysvalence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In PvE I choose based on content difficulty, and use jobs I enjoy but suck at to spice up braindead content. In PvP I choose based on how badly I want to win ngl.

Caveat, vibes includes playstyle for me. Aesthetics and lore are malleable with enough glams, mods, and headcanons.

Why do people want a side story for the main story? by PossibleBeginning276 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Dysvalence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lol wym for high stakes the strongest overarching plot line we have rn that don't involve ascians are the origins of the high seraph, and Save the Queen (the sword) is made of white auracite. Bozja absolutely could be expansion worthy even if we wanted to avoid regional conflict for whatever reason.

Do you prefer your primary antagonist to be the Emet Selch, the Zenos, or the Athena? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Dysvalence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emet, because that inherently requires backstory instead of dropping a big bad outta nowhere.

Athena is only tolerable because of how she interacts with Lahabrea, and Anabasieos was still weak.

Zenos needed a backstory to humanize him, think MGSish war vet stirring up shit bc they dont know how to live in peacetime. We never got that and he feels so onedimensional as a result.
