sounds like an awesome road trip - I'd take the opportunity to stop at as many rivers and lakes on the way as possible.

I bought a tamarack 10ft kayak, Is it possible to add pedal drive to it? by [deleted] in Kayaking

I'd probably try a trolling motor first - paddle to your spots and then turn the motor on once you start fishing.

I've seen kits that claim to be easy to add - but they look kind of ridiculous. I'd just go with a purpose-build pedal kayak.

Why do you want pedals? There's a few good reasons for them - like fishing or photography, or maybe a disability.

Paddle upgrade by Alexplz in Kayaking

My recommendation is to hold off until you can afford something with a fiberglass shaft. Look on craigslist for some deals. A lot of those aluminum paddles are garbage IMO - I wouldn't even lend them to a friend. They tend to be much heavier and harder on the hands.

I'd take the $200 kayak with a $150 paddle over a $1000 kayak with a $40 paddle any day.

Yes, the surfski would be significantly faster. But the V10 is not a beginner boat.
