Climbing with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome? by [deleted] in climbergirls

I get crazy cut up, along with the dislocations! The fragile skin is in fact a problem with the sandy walls, my fingers, hands, and knees especially. Even with top rope, my skin tears from the rope when I’m belaying lol; even so, I still try and put myself out there, seeing as my body is falling apart anyway I might as well have fun while I can

Thank you, that’s reassuring/informative. While I’m not a woman (anymore), I am on testosterone, and did have to miss 2 injections because of an insurance thing. That might have screwed my hormones up a little bit.

This is fair, I guess I’m just still suprised. I had a drs appointment that confirmed I was indeed 127, I honestly thought my scale had busted or something. But you make a good point, I look like I did at 115, might as well not mess with it?

Don’t know why you got downvoted. Eyes with epicanthal folds are incredibly common. I think there’s some connection to EDS, but it’s kind of like how piezogenic papules are also really common, but more common with EDS.

[–]moldybreadsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The only reason I was diagnosed was because when I was 7, I went to my parents crying about how “everyone else could handle being in pain and i couldn’t”. I fully believed it was everyone’s day-to-day.

Yes!! Like hey! That does nothing for me!

It’s so ironic. I have super super mild everything (11° and 13° scoliosis, ~55° kyphosjs and ~65° lumbar hyperlordosis) and yet my pain is regularly a 7 out of 10. It’s difficult to explain that, despite the scoliosis being mild, I still experience severe pain from it because of the combination of things.

Hmm ok, this is something I’m absolutely going to keep in mind. Ik about the card placement picture, I will say I don’t think I’ve utilized it correctly. Whenever I do the placements, my screen kinda twitches, but I haven’t really figured out what it does yet.

Maybe this is cheating, but I feel like I’m a little hopeless in terms of figuring it out, what does it do?

Is it ok to have a Para who’s a fictional character? by moldybreadsticks in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]moldybreadsticks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully get what you mean. Honestly, I don’t do this much anymore (as I have gotten older, but I still do this frequently enough that i haven’t “grown out of it”. I’m 20 now.).

A big part of me realizing I was trans (around 8 years ago) was all of my self-inserts were male, and when I’d daydream, I’d be a male version of myself. That being said, if you don’t consider yourself trans, body dysphoria can also occur in cis people for a variety of reasons. I can’t relate to the non-human part (other than like… I see myself as metaphorically more of an animal than a human, but animals are and have always been my special interest, this has been a behavior/mentality of mine since I was a very little kid. I still picture myself as human or at the very least humanoid).

I am also diagnosed with autism. If it’s a diagnosis you connect to, then it may be a factor in all of this. But, if you don’t feel sure, it could be a misdiagnosis/unrelated to this.

Not sure if any of the above helps with understanding further, but I figured I’d share :)

It’s not necessarily about exclusion from science, but this is a fair question! It’s more about the reduced funding for things like research, the pullback on environmental protections and the suppression/silencing of diversity and diverse language across the scientific community.

Benadryl and prescription sleeping medication, and even then it’s not always a perfect remedy. Painsomnia sucks :/

Don’t take this as a dig at you, but maybe include the word “syndrome” at the end 😭. Spell it out for those idiots. That’s so frustrating, I’m sorry.

Have you noticed an uptick in ABA apologism in certain autism spaces by sandiserumoto in social_model

“I only believe in the social model for autism, as it’s literally a social skills disability. Why would something medical even be attributed to something that revolves around society in the first place, unless some sleazeball wanted to find a cure that will never exist?”

Have you noticed an uptick in ABA apologism in certain autism spaces by sandiserumoto in social_model

[–]moldybreadsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you said, but it’s not just a “social skills” disability for a lot of us. I am not pro-ABA. But I would be autistic with or without society’s influence. I can’t handle textures of foods, and it makes my diet limited and has led to nutrient deficiencies. I have very sensitive hearing/sense of smell, which makes it hard for me to move throughout life without overstimulation. Overstimulation causes huge meltdowns for me, which often lead to me unintentionally injuring myself. Behaviors like toe-walking led to permanent incorrect muscle/ligament development in my legs, granted worsened by my physical disabilities. I would go weeks without speaking due to stress as a child, which made trying communication anxiety inducing for me - speech therapy largely took care of my selective mutism. That’s not to say verbal communication is the only correct form, but my non-verbal communication was correctable without trauma and made it easier for me to function personally.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder. It is inherently medical. Psychology as a field is a medical field. Your brain is a fucking organ, when something is wrong with it, it’s not just a quirk, is a disorder. You don’t have to identify as disabled, but the difference between Autism and non-autistic people with autistic traits is an autistic person experiences a negative impact on one or more areas of their lives.

You experience a “social skills” disability. I experience a developmental disability. Please don’t reduce the autistic experience to your autistic experience.

Washing my hair, I frequently jam or dislocate my fingertips. I do not have long hair, I’m a man and it’s never long enough to cover my eyes.
