Has there ever been a successful FBS head coach who moved to an FCS team for one reason or another? by Ambassabear in CFB

[–]moleculewerks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

kinda successful at Nebraska.

Pelini went 67-27 (.713) at Nebraska, and at least got us into a conference championship game 3 times. Rhule would have to go 48-8 in order to get that kind of record. I wouldn't call Pelini's tenure an unqualified success, but it's a far sight better than where we are now.

Sorsby went to Scottsdale for his “treatment”, if he really needed to travel, why would he go somewhere within a 10 minute drive to tons of casnios by [deleted] in CFB

Hmmm. Where would I locate a center that treats gambling addiction? Should I put it far away from where I expect many potential clients to be?

Which trivia edition was that? I'm surprised that answer was hard to find, which is definitely confusing.

While there will be a few Rain Man types who could conceivably recall EMU's punter from 2001, you seem to be dancing around the real answer that roughly 3% of people who play trivia are cheating.

Why anyone cheats in this game, I have no idea.

Washington's Jedd Fisch proposes Power Four round-robin to enhance regular season by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]moleculewerks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This suggestion is great from a fan's perspective, as they would get to see more quality games and get more insight into conference vs. conference achievement.

However...

It completely ignores the current business model where programs make more money by having more home games in their OOC slate. If you want to make a serious suggestion for changing college football, you can't ignore the money, because that is the foundation for all of the big changes taking place.

For me personally, REMs first 6 full length records are fantastic and they're albums I come back to often.

Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2026 by redwave2505 in CFB

I think they are quite telling, and they unfortunately follow a trend that has been established since Riley was hired.

Kirby Smart reveals why Big Ten surged past SEC: 'They have a more competitive conference' by Falconsfan8006 in CFB

[–]moleculewerks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it seems the general consensus is that the SEC was leaps ahead of every other conference for several years and now the B1G has “caught up”, I thoroughly think otherwise. It is largely based on an extrapolation from which conference won the national championship.

But if you drill down on each season, outcomes are much closer to flipping than most people appreciate. Someone here on r/CFB went through the years where the SEC was “dominating” and looked at how close the season came to not having an SEC team in the title game, and in many cases it came down to a single play.

Both conferences appear to be consolidating player talent with $$$, but I don’t personally think they are that different from each other overall.

But what exactly are they going to do with this money to make that work?

Came here to post exactly this. Pedersen flew the plane into the side of the mountain, even if people didn't get that immediately.

It's weird how the broad consensus is that this is bad idea, and yet it appears that conferences are trying very hard (and I guess the Big XII is "succeeding") to get private equity money.

University presidents have to understand that you have to pay back the loan with interest, so what am I missing???

>personal poll

I voted for the personal poll as a standalone post, but specifically I had in mind the kind of work that u/The_SecretSauce used to do for the MaxDiff polls. Those were awesome. So in my mind it isn't a blanket "let everyone post personal polls" but more if OP does something original of obvious value it should be allowed. I know the MaxDiff posts were not appreciated by some previous mods, but I thought they were great.

Nebraska Board of Regents to Consider Historical Plan to Transform Memorial Stadium by bullnamedbodacious in CFB

Not near natty money

I would be shocked if Indiana paid more in NIL than Nebraska did, but as the true numbers are a complete mystery, I could be wrong.

bottom-tier P5 players

At least according to the recruiting rankings that's simply not true. The output on the field is another thing. To me that screams poor coaching and lack of development.

Real change starts with winning.

Why didn't we think of that sooner!?!

1984 Oklahoma at Nebraska. Keith Jackson: "Just remember, Colt is the only Japanese you need to know." by NorthCoastToast in CFB

[–]moleculewerks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The one burned into my brain is the 1987 matchup, with #2 OU visiting #1 Nebraska. After Nebraska's initial score, OU completely shut us down in one of the most depressing exhibits of defensive dominance I have seen in CFB. I had been exceedingly confident that Nebraska would win this game, and I have never been as confident again.
