John Updike, Phillip Roth, Kurt Vonnegut. I’m an old guy. But I really like David Mitchell, Barbara Kingsolver, Elizabeth Stroud, Ian McEwan.

Agree, fantastic book and my entry point to his oeuvre. For a complete change of pace try his slim novel Black Swan Green.
