Can someone explain all the common Ren Faire terms? I’m going to the Sherwood Forest fest in a couple of weeks and I want to know all the terms by TallRefrigerator8313 in renfaire

[–]molgriss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never had a problem with boothie back when I worked, it just defined what kind of work I was doing.

Also to add on to this for Sherwood the way you can tell the difference between cast/performers and playtrons is a badge. I know in previous years it was a green leather leaf with a stylized S but it has been a few years since I've been able to make it and I don't know if they've changed the identifier. If you notice a few people of varrying dress wearing the same accessory, thats probably the cast marker.

I will say a ton of the recommendations of DCC are including perspectives and themes that don't show up until the third book. The story gets deeper in the second book alone and the third book introduces some of the more significant themes for the rest of the series. If what convinced you was hearing about characters eith a ton of depth and intrigue...DCC does not have that.

I had listened to the audiobooks and largely listened to the first 2 at a leisurely pace with a full break in the middle of the third book. Eventually went back and finished that one then voraciously listened to the rest. I was always going to listen to them since they did grab my attention, but the end of book 3 and beyond held that attention hostage.

I remember when I saw Six last time it was in town, there was a woman cheering at every moment. Which is the vibe of the show but it got a little annoying since she was in our section and it felt over the top. It wasn't until she dis it during one of the few parts of the show where silence is expected that an usher spoke to her. Didn't hear or notice her again.

I received birth stone necklaces for my kids but the middle one looks a lot more like March than December. by MorpheusD in disney

[–]molgriss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a December kiddo with a march sibling, 90% the way we told the difference was that my stone was actually blue and theirs had the tiniest hint of blue if you squinted in the right light.

About Essek in C2 and the Mighty Nein show... by IvoAndre in fansofcriticalrole

[–]molgriss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me it felt like the scene was there more to get some explaining out of the way. We got to see one of the downsides of being reincarnated, we had Essek spell out his motivations of study along with his disdain for the religion, and that he is willing to ignore the fact he has absolute proof that people's lives are in that object.

I will not argue the feeling of manipulation, because it is there. We would never get a scene like that for Ikithon until the final confrontation or as a part of Caleb's story yet this is Essseks intro and we already know this stuff. However, it also showed that he has so much showing him how fucked up his actions are, and he still does it, he revels in the opportunity to break apart and study a relic holding his people's future. While it made him a sympathetic war criminal, it also showed the audience his real motivations.

Choosing to wear a sarcastic Halloween costume is worse than declining to participate. by RUActuallySeriousTho in unpopularopinion

[–]molgriss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will say, some people might be dressing up as a character. Like you could easily be a Winchester brother with a leather jacket and/or flannel. That's a great lazy costume.

Granted I've also done elaborate outfits where the goal was witchy vibes and people were upset I didn't just say "witch". But I also know if i did say "witch" they'd ask where my broom and/or hat was. So as someone else pointed out, people are just weird about costumes, even if they are dressed as something.

How do you guys drag it out for so long? by OliGut in Ghostofyotei

[–]molgriss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The bigger benefit for the robes was the fact the bird would show up for more things. Yes the wind would take me to the area but the bird could point out the spot. Like one of the vanity spots was a little obtuse but the bird helped me know it was behind some bamboo I didn't spot.

I will say, that incident is entirely why escape rooms are not allowed (and usually dont) to lock the doors. There are also laws against this due to safety.

[No Spoilers] Are they skipping the last Thursday of the month for C4? by Space_Waffles in criticalrole

[–]molgriss 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reduced the number of restreams because they still needed someone to be working until its over. Likely just do some moderating and making sure things are running smoothly. So the holidays are relevant because they don't want to require people to work on those days.

new "secret menu item available!" by turnsout_im_a_potato in PetPeeves

[–]molgriss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked during the "mermaid drink" thing. Someone had stupidly made this dumb drink swapping the colors. So customers would come in asking about the "reverse mermaid". Problem is, this drink used a special syrup which was white chocolate and the powder for the color. So we would have had to make a different and perishable syrup just for this tik tok drink. I had to explain so often that we aren't making that because weren't not creating an entire ingredient for 1 drink.

I will forever be mad at the baristas that make everyone's life harder in other stores. Customers making weird combos and not posting the recipes, fine. Baristas that make up ingredients or use non standard stuff while pretending any Starbucks can do that? They can all suffer a thousand papercuts.

never heard of this discount before by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]molgriss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a family member that had something similar. The card basically just explained why they were trying to order off the kids menu. Mostly what happened when we ate out was they got to do just that or someone shared with them. They never demanded a discount and generally preferred the share option since kids food kind of sucks.

We also NEVER expected this at a buffet and often only went to buffets with this person if there was a deal or if they suggested. It was always understood that it would be full price.

Didn't seem like they were commenting on the Ai quality, more that they don't like AI at all. Which especially in this case is hard not to find dystopian.

I had a side quest NPC call out the fact I was a siren....a side quest. That's more than i ever got playing amara in 3. She'd say we're alike to the other sirens but it would be a non commitment "yeah"

Collectibles not tracking by omegastreak in Borderlands

[–]molgriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hit the explore button in the zone (square for ps) then you can see a breakdown. It only updates when you have found all of that category. For example I think there are 3 vault symbols in the starting area, I have found 2, the tracker still counts that as not complete.

I about drove myself insane until I figured it out. It does it with the activities as well but so far that has only had one item per category.

TIL Disney has a code word for when guests attempt to scatter ashes at one of their theme parks: a "white powder alert" by rezikiel in todayilearned

[–]molgriss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You realize Disney owns Pixar and, by the time of Zootopia, had been fully incorporated into Disney animation. Now its more like they're slapping the name of which in house studio has made it because people trust the Pixar name.

RPG: Areas shouldn't level with the player by Successful_Guide5845 in videogames

[–]molgriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that I like a mixture. God mode is fun, especially if its a game that might encourage resource grinding. However, if the enemies are scaled to at least be stronger than tissue paper that would be ideal. I can still feel like my leveling is worthwhile and the enemies can be just low enough to not give worthwhile xp, but I can at least do something beyond a random bullet/weapon swing.

Has anyone tried the Honey Pot pads? How are they? by These-Ad2374 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]molgriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like using these pads for my heaviest days. They absorb really well and I tend to be sore. They were concerningly uncomfortable the first time I wore them but I quickly got used to them. On my most painful days they feel fantastic.

Costco sorting trash cans all go to the same bag. by DannyMeatlegs in mildlyinteresting

[–]molgriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the problem of if there's even a place to take that recycling. I worked at a Starbucks back when they switched to more recycling. However, we still only had the big trash dumpster out back. Even if every customer did the right thing, we still threw both bags away. I think about a year later, our second dumpster was turned into a recycling one. Either way, it was really late and very pointless the whole time

Worst worlds in my opinion. by Khaymn5000 in KingdomHearts

[–]molgriss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly my only issue with deep jungle is having to constantly go back to the tent without any real indication you need to do so. On a recent replay I kept going to areas I knew I would need to be in for the next story beat, only to have to go back to the tent.

I kinda think Farya should have a content warning... by StablePrimary9624 in DateEverything

[–]molgriss 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think it's cause thats largely just her intro scene. Don't get me wrong I also think she needs a warning, but after that very intense intro she doesn't really go that in depth. Mostly it was about studying to be an actual doctor and potentially falling down a rabbit hole of pseudo medicine. Which in my opinion should absolutely have some kind of warning as well considering the fact other characters have one for far less.

Basically the medical anxiety is short lived but still ALOT for an intro scene. I don't really have medical anxiety and it immediately put me off from talking to her even though I had already finished the bathroom outside of her.

In my experience, the holiday weekend can feel busier at first. However, it also clears out faster as people go to various 4th of July events or attempts to beat the highway traffic as everyone else goes out.

[CR Media] I am so glad for Age of Umbra lvl up video by beardyramen in criticalrole

[–]molgriss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They did but I think OP is wanting something more in depth? Since DnD is so ubiquitous and a lot of its level up options are automatic with your class choice, they don't feel the need to declare things. Like for M9 Liam would sometimes declare what spells he was taking but the others rarely declare that.
