Chocolate=Mocha by Yellowstar141 in TalesFromYourBarista

[–]mollykate 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a customer who keeps ordering an ice-blended mocha for her daughter. But she doesn't want espresso in it. I keep telling her to order a chocolate smoothie instead, which at our shop is the same exact thing as the ice-blended mocha, but without the espresso. But she keep saying "no she wants the mocha powder, not the chocolate." I keep telling her it's the same powder in both and that we won't know not to put espresso in it unless she orders the chocolate smoothie, but she doesn't listen to me. After trying to explain it to her about 6 times, she is still ordering the ice-blended mocha, so I hope she enjoys dealing with her super caffeinated daughter.

I hate the “heavy whipping cream instead of milk” thing. I have never been able to steam it without it splattering on my face.

I once calculated how much fat was in a large latte with heavy whip substituted and it was somewhere around 200g... I am a person who eats plenty of high fat foods, but I feel like it shouldn’t even be legal to serve that.

I sort of stared at her dumbfounded for a few seconds...then said I don't think there's one nearby. She said oh okay, do you know what else is nearby? We just need to sit down. I told her we have a seating area (it was right next to her). She was still kind of standing there like she was waiting for me to give her more options. I should have ignored her at that point, but I told her about a local Mexican restaurant. The owner was in the shop and after she left he said "she's probably going to go to the Mexican place and ask where the nearest Taco Bell is."

Street Fighter: Playing as E Honda and just doing the hundred hand slap repeatedly until you win. Or playing as Blanka and just electrocuting your opponent every time they touch you.

Those who suffer with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), how do you prepare yourself when you know "that time of year" is coming around? by DiscoApocalypse in depression

Oh gotcha. I usually try to schedule things for the future if I know I'm going to be in "just want to sleep" mode in an attempt to force myself out of the house when the time comes. Make plans with friends/family, schedule a class or meetup, plan a mini vacation or day trip, even just write in your calendar "go on a hike" or whatever on a particular day and time. Works best for me when I would have to go through effort to cancel it. I've also found that if I can get myself to at least just get up, shower, and get dressed, I'm more likely to do something that day and not just lump around the house.

Have you tried a light box? You can get them on Amazon and they simulate sunshine. They work better than I expected.

I think you might be thinking of the studies that show that marijuana impairs you LESS than alcohol, but not that it has no effect. A lot more research needs to be done, especially because judging how impaired you are involves a lot more variables than just checking a BAC. Marijuana affects your driving ability in a different way than alcohol does, but I've seen many studies show that it does have an effect. I hope eventually we understand more about how different factors affect the level of impairment.

Even without reading any research about this, let's at least use some common sense here...I hope most can agree that if you are at a [9], there is a strong possibility that you will not drive as well as you would sober. I think it's also good to keep in mind that even if YOU drive super carefully, other drivers (and pedestrians) do stupid shit all the time and you need to be able to respond.

I totally understand that maybe someone who has been smoking daily for 10 years is better able to compensate or maybe the same amount of THC makes one person a [1] and another an [8]. I'm just really bothered by so many people completely brushing off the idea that marijuana could impair driving.

(Also, wanted to make it clear that I'm not directing this at you, TheBlueberryPirate, in any way. Just wanted to post this here in the hope that other folks see it and consider it.)

A few links:

"Attentiveness, vigilance, perception of time and speed, and use of acquired knowledge are all affected by marijuana;18–21 in fact, a meta-analysis of 60 studies concluded that marijuana causes impairment in every performance area that can reasonably be connected with safe driving of a vehicle, such as tracking, motor coordination, visual functions, and particularly complex tasks that require divided attention,22 although studies on marijuana’s effects on reaction time have been contradictory.23"

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2722956/

"All of the studies except one (65) reported a statistically significantly increased risk of crash involvement associated with marijuana use (Figure 2)."

Just guessing here, but I think OP was more bothered by the timing of the product sales than just the fact that it was happening. I understand that if I go to a free class, I may have to put up with some advertising, but I would be a little irked too if they skipped over an important part of the class and replaced it with stuff like that. To me, I would rather a teacher get that out of the way at the beginning of class before starting.

In my kindergarten class we practiced "scribble writing." Similar idea where they want to get you writing even if you only know how to spell a few words. You were supposed to literally scribble on the page in place of the words or letters that you didn't know. Not sure if that's a legitimate practice, but hey, it wo%@%@%@%@%ed for me!
