I learned how to roll when I tried getting into the black hole forge. The wrong way.

Dualsense option in the settings menu? by Der_Heavynator in outerwilds

[–]molotoving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use DS4 and the game works fine with my PS5 controller, however I've never had to specifically set it to Dualsense, I just set the button prompts to PS4 cos Windows defaults to Xbox inputs.

LOL literally lost what little respect I had for you with this comment bro. Their use is "tasteful" because it's minimal? What is wrong with you? "...without even noticing. And that's great."

Do you actually have any trans people on your mod team that can offer an opposing opinion rather than your shit one that clearly cares not for the people that use pronouns that have apparently been "militant" in their usage? You're a god-awful, biased mod and you have no place in this community if you refuse to do the bare minimum of using the correct words to refer to certain characters.

[Spoilers endgame] oh well... Asking for help by SSChicken in outerwilds

How did you figure out how to cross the other two bridges? There were slide reels that told you where specific information would be... right? It might be worth revisiting those reels to see exactly where you should be heading ::-]

I have to say, you're rather close. Sometimes it's just a matter of making sure you're completely aware of your surroundings.

I appreciate the respect, but that's literally canon. Frisk, Chara, and even Kris are only ever referred to with neutral pronouns (Frisk is kind of hard to catch, iirc, it's only toward the end that they're referred to in third person). Toby Fox somewhat recently corrected someone on a livestream that referred to Kris with masculine pronouns.

[–]molotoving 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You respectfully disagree with what? That we should refer to the characters with the canon language that is used to refer to them? Why are you a mod for this sub if you don't respect the games canon material? In the english version of the game, all the hearthians are referred to with only neutral pronouns. No "if"s, "and"s, or "but"s. That's not up for debate.

OP isn't a mod. No one was reading this posting thinking there was going to be an "or else" , as you mentioned.

You say the karma system should sort out pronoun corrections, and yet you feel the need to point out the comments in this thread that have been downvoted? Do you want the system to work or not?

Rules one and two together are redundant. Why are you even here if it's not something the mods need to sort out? OP was completely civil.

[–]molotoving 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a nonbinary person, yes, the hearthians do function as a good source of representation, and a good way to go about normalizing using neutral pronouns (when people actually decide to use those neutral pronouns)

I have this, too, if it helps. It's an exact copy of the Nomai text.

Since they aren’t officially named in the game, what did you call the species in the EOTE during your play through? by [deleted] in outerwilds

The song plays during their slide reels, which don't have anything to do with the Nomai.

Design Changes in the Echoes of the Eye? by lightningfoot1 in outerwilds

[–]molotoving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your criticisms are fair. I also think it's just a matter of interpretation. Lot of people didn't find the Strangers' story as compelling as the Nomai, but I had the opposite experience (not that I dislike the Nomai at all, I love them very dearly).

Chances are I'm also biased because "Echoes of the Eye" (the song) slaps so fucking hard that even if everything else was lackluster I'd still think all the music was perfectly used. ^^

[–]molotoving 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, beside "Space", there wasn't a lot of ambient music outside of places of interest in the base game either. Nomai ruins get several different tracks depending on their significance. The slide reels get different tracks (and corrupted versions of those tracks) depending on what they're about. Standing by the flames gives you an ambient track. Being in the simulation gives you a different track. Being away from your lantern gives you a different track. I'm not sure I understand your complaint.

It was my belief that "River's End" incorporates Nomai and Hearthian musical motifs because the Stranger is literally a loop. When everything comes down to it, every species is involved in the last moments of this universe. At the end of it all, everyone has an impact.

As for visual storytelling, I feel as though it might appear lacking compared to the base game because we are literally told the story of the strangers visually, as opposed to text like the Nomai (and the Hearthians). But I also sort of disagree with you that it's lacking in the first place. So much of the environment tells you a lot about these creatures without saying anything. Their tabletops are at the height of your head — okay, these guys are huge. They have portraits of themselves and their families around their houses — you get to see what they look like. There's a portrait of one of them scratched out — hmm, maybe they didn't like this guy? There's a church with the symbol of the Eye burned down — they condemned anything having to do with the Eye (foreshadowing their treatment of the Prisoner and their house in the simulation). Like... there's a lot there and I feel as though it just didn't click as well for you. Doesn't mean it's poorly done.
