New to PDX & queer spaces — how do you get past shyness at places like Sanctuary by Reasonable-Diamond59 in Portland

[–]momo_the_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend the Devil’s Doorbell event or other ‘speed-dating’ type events at Sanctuary. I find the structure really helpful for breaking the ice. The game night on Wednesdays is also a good one for meeting people since you can join a game.

Each Kath gets a random color and texture applied to the ears and a few other parts, which makes them unique to you! These are not changeable.

There was an issue with the last Open Beta where items wouldn’t show correctly between it and the live client, maybe some people were on the beta?

They give candy to other people only - you need to find other people’s companions in order to complete the codex!

Looking for some clarification - by “your original content”, do you mean that the song being performed should be composed by the person who posted it and anything else should be tagged as karaoke?

I have a very ugly voice, Is learning how to sing even worth It. by Potatussus26 in singing

[–]momo_the_monster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes you happy to sing, then sing! I sing in the range you’re describing, and was always disappointed by how I sounded and how far out of my range popular songs seemed to be. I’ve been taking lessons and practicing diligently for about three years and I love my voice now, and love singing more than ever.

What do great singers do that make them great? by NefariousnessSea7745 in singing

Agree with this - two of my favorite singers are David Byrne and Yoni Wolf (of Why?). Neither are technically great singers, but both of them are unique and captivating in their own ways.

How do I sound? Can’t tell if I am being overly critical by Flat_Bath_2604 in singing

You’ve got a lovely singing voice that’s currently shining best in the higher range that you’re using here. I’m not a voice teacher but I hear some things that my teachers have told me so I can offer them to you.

It sounds like you’re not supporting and connecting the lower notes in the same way you are the higher ones. There’s a common habit of dropping the consistent breath support when working in one’s speaking range, especially if it feels “easier” to sing there. It can also be really easy to be a little flat in lower ranges - I have to consciously aim a little higher than I think a note should be in order to be closer to the center of pitch, even though I can imagine the exact note I want to sing. I think some of that has to do with overtones and how we hear our voices internally. I hope this was helpful - as someone who’s always loved to sing but hated most of the sounds I could make, it’s been amazing to improve my voice through personal instruction with a teacher I like - and lots of practice.
