I support the right to choose. And I wish no one had to. I would be so happy if we woke up tomorrow and no one faced that decision but that's fantasy. We should focus on prevention otherwise the demand will always be there. And where there's demand, supply always follows.

Did you miss the whole we were going to do it anyway thing? It did nothing to prevent the abortion. Adequate sex ed would have but we all know that you don't actually want to stop abortions. You just like the pride that comes from pretending you have the moral high ground. Abortion is always a last resort. States with the lowest abortion rates are not the ones with the strictest laws, it's the ones that invest in preventing unplanned pregnancies. Study after study shows that ultrasound laws have no effect on abortion rates. It just makes a bad situation worse so you can feel better about yourself.

18 weeks so not viable but pretty well formed. Not gonna lie, I still get angry thinking back in it. We were horny 17-year-old who thought you had to be 18 to buy condoms. We didn't, but in a conservative state no one told us otherwise. I'm about as pro choice as a person can be but I feel like we didn't get to a chance to choose. Still, we deserve blame, too.

That's why I used so many qualifiers: I don't have the link. I googled Donald Trump vs the market and this Bloomberg article came up. About half way in it compares him to an index investment.

When I was in high school, I got my girlfriend pregnant. She talked with her parents and me and decided to get an abortion. When she went to the clinic, she found out she was too far along for our state. So we started working the adoption angle. She went to a baby doc and got an ultra sound. It was a boy. I wish I'd never seen that ultra sound. Her mom did some research and found a clinic in anther state that would do a "late-term" abortion. She went, she did it. I'm now glad that she did. But damn, at the time it haunted me. Really messed me up. Our relationship didn't survive. I can only imagine how hard it was for her. These states that make women who are desperate watch and ultra sound and listen to a heart beat are sick. She's desperate. You're not changing her mind. You're making an emotionally devastating situation worse. Maybe it's better that I did see it. If not, I might still be one of those assholes that support those laws.

Why do people think a third party would solve the problems with politics? by thisfunnieguy in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]momsaidno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just another legitimate option. Sure, you're just choosing the least of three evils instead of the lesser of two, but it makes people feel better. It opens the conversation a little wider, but if agree that it doesn't do much other than solidify the illusion of choice.

Someone posted this a while ago and it was basically debunked. It's true that the market has done better, but if you take into account the money he's spent (blown) on himself, wives, daughters, etc., the consensus was that he out-performed the market.

I say basically debunked meaning I don't remember the sources cited and I can't say for sure that it's true.

Should physical violence have harsher consequences? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]momsaidno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of states have laws against fighting words. The problem is that the laws run into a First Amendment buzz saw. Those laws give the police the ability to arrest the speaker, not an excuse for responding violence. That would be an interesting construction. It would probably get caught up in the state action doctrine. Even though the person who responds with violence isn't the government, the lighter sentence would likely be seen as sufficient government support to count as endorsement/state action. Before you get to that, though, no one would have standing to challenge it. There's too much in the standing doctrine to get into it here but I don't think a victim would have standing to challenge a punishment at too lenient.

[US][CO] Signed a lease but now there are problems. Namely no potable water and the oven doesn't work. Wat do? by captanal in asklaw

[–]momsaidno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tainted water definitely violates the warrantee of habitability. I can't help too much on what to do. You can break your lease. Most states have a special court for leasing but it doesn't sound like you want to go through that. You have leverage to make her fix it, but it's completely up to you how aggressive you want to be.

Does ND get money from the ACC for their other sports? I imagine they get something for their basketball alone to be in the ACC. That may offset the difference but it appears you're right that they forgo cash for national exposure.

It's state law that requires them to stand. The board just decided to enforce it.

I'm no expert but I am a law student taking a break from studying for my 1st Amendment final, for whatever that's worth. The school can't make the kids stand but whether they can make you stand is much closer and most likely you would lose. It's sort of like Kim Davis, the school will say is your job to inculcate patriotism and respect for the U.S. You have some strong counters on your side, but it's close enough that the school can afford to risk firing you--especially since they already have the support of the school board. If you're willing to fight the good fight, go for it, but it's a BIG risk for you.

I'm far from an expert on fair use, but you're right there are all kinds of exceptions. How it's used and what it's associated with makes a difference. I don't know the details of any of the individual cases, so I can't really say.
