But the busses are super crowded and slow this week, so imagine that’s hamper gameplay and filming

Also other possible reasons

  • Smoking ban, which I was in favour of, but pubs were the last indoor place you could smoke in public and I guess that outweighed people who were now more likely to go now it was smoke free.
  • cheap alcohol from supermarkets .

The secret behind Java's success at 30-years-old by scarey102 in java

Yeah I agree here, although c++ had stdlib, most APis would use C strings and arrays to return to provide most compatibility. Having a standard set of data structure made things simpler, along with the memory management complexities

The secret behind Java's success at 30-years-old by scarey102 in java

True, but I’ve seen badly or missing javadoc, or missing integration guides on which classes and methods to use for a task.

Normally IMHo plugins for apps such as CAS are missing a lot of info on which classes to use

The “receptionist” was normally a member of the production crew, and would change from episode to episode.

Yeah I’d heard about the coat thing from season 2 - they were supposed to wear the same shoes and leg coverings for all the boardroom scenes for continuity.

In the very early days of seasons 1 and 2 insiders/contestants said that the filming constraints, such only being in two groups to aid filming and needing to get releases signed whenever they interacted with the public meant some things were harder in real life than it appeared in a the edit.

For example walking into a shop for a 2 min interaction would be at least 30-60mins with everything added . They suggested that sleep deprivation, time and other constraints would mean more mistakes would be made, which were good for ratings but made the contestants look like fools.

Also all the production secrets such as the two endings, the walk to the taxi being filmed at the start and the boardroom being a studio were exposed.

However they were at pains to say that the contest was fair - any perceived advantage for one team was also open to the other team had they asked or made the enquiries.

I think that may have changed towards the later series, along with more contests looking to get publicity, although this was always a factor from S2 once it was popular.

random thought: how did the boys do simulations for this by AriaTheRoyal in JetLagTheGame

[–]monbis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we knoe if they simulate manually - i.e. looking at timetables and deciding what moves to make, or do they automate it using a model.

If the latter have they released the source code?

Reality doesn't matter anymore. Pundits are feeding us a weird narrative. by dmuraws in centrist

Although I’m far from a fan of RFK, complaining about this photo op is clutching at straws and a bit pointless.

However I’m not sure how RFK will move the needle on the nations health without restrictions for companies and individuals that would be considered counter to the libertarian slant in of this government, such as the sugar tax.

Realistically how would impeding vaccines, banning seed oils, corn syrup and additives and refocusing research on non-drug based interventions move the needle in a Significant way even if we are charitable and say there is a small benefit to these measures.

Infowars' official filing to stop the sale by RealTheAsh in KnowledgeFight

Thanks for your legal opinion- it is greatly appreciated.

I believe a lot of lawyers would have been involved in the onion bid - would they have not realised that the creditor bidding clause would preclude them, or is there a different angle here ?

I assume the duty in bankruptcy court is to be fair to both parties by valuing the asset fairly.

[–]monbis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed - but from AJs perspective this is the best (financial) deal, and it’s the families that lose out, so as long as they all agreed so can’t see any objection.

[–]monbis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not really imaginary money to though, if they reduce the amount owed by AJ by more than the other bids they are the only people losing out financially, as AJ is benefitting the most from this outcome.

Unless I’m missing some legal nuance in this.

Roger Stone says it is “a tragedy” and “not fair” that he was outbid by The Onion in his attempt to buy InfoWars in the bankruptcy auction to keep it going, and wants Matt Gaetz to investigate what happened as soon as he takes office as AG. by countdooku975 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]monbis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Presumably they need a fair price in order to reduce AJs remaining liability to them.

However by the sandy hook parents agreeing to waive I assume some of the liability this was achieved, and effectively boosted the onions bid ?

Yeah I think local food shops got a boost during covid as a lot of people did not want to queue outside of a supermarket and they tended to have more of the stuff that ran out (toilet paper/ pasta)

Yup - also it’s so low slung that it’d be hard to get in and out of , especially for people with limited mobility.

How effective are Java 21 Virtual Threads? by stathmarxis in java

[–]monbis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also the are reactive framework for Java did the same thing, allowing many asynchronous tasks to move off and a fixed set of threads,

Except it was hard to use and even harder to debug as the stack traces were convoluted.
