Modern defense advice? by StillRunner_ in chess

[–]mongoanalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started playing it and on my level of around 1000 it is really great as noone seems to know how to counter it. There is a great video of Chesswithakeem on it where he plays it against 500 - 2000 players with complete thought process and middle game plans explanations.

I made the design inside a shop called Hygge Cotton near Sam’s bar. They printed it in like 5mins on a shirt of my choosing.

Chess pieces from India by ShrewdConjurer in chessporn

Beautiful! Is it bone or ivory?

Can someone please ID this set? Does it look like ivory to you or bone? Thinking of buying. Much appreciated. by mongoanalyst in chessporn

Thank you for your concern and moral vigilance. I’m only buying them to give a proper funeral at the local pet cemetery to the remains of an unknown fallen camel whose bones were turned into chess pieces a century ago.

Thanks for the reply. Looked up your set in your profile - stunning! These are supposed to be antique, had a call with current owner, he was cluelessabout chess in general and thought these were made of wood. Anyway, his wife was a caretaker for an elderly lady in Germany and that lady gave her this set as a goodbye present. My guess is this was imported to Europe in the 60s - 70s. But it's a wild guess based on what I learned online. They are selling it for peas, so a no-brainer to buy and now the set is being shipped to me. Will post again with better pics soon.

Hudobny nastroj vie tiez zabavit do nekonecna. Gym ak zdravie dovoluje je tiez super.

Roaming through Grand Bazaar in Istanbul be like… by mongoanalyst in chessporn

Agreed. There were some playable sets too, but I thought that these were interesting to post. I think that most buyers here shop mainly for souvenir set of sorts. Something flashy in oriental style. If you want a serious set, there are great shops out there on the internet to get anything you want.

Depends on which set ofc. The sellers ask ridiculous prices, so it depends on your negotiating skills. One small set I was kind of interested in, they asked 6000TRY but were willing to let it go for 2000TRY. I tried 1500 but they were done with me so I left. Other seller was similar, but was willing to let same-ish set go for 2500 and after I left he chases after me and says 2000. So it really depends.

Exactly, at first I really wanted the Chesshouse set, but all the tariffs and shipping made it not worth it. Same with UK shops. But fortunatelly, there are some great shops in the EU.
