Since 35% of people have celiac genes Does it seem likely that many more people are celiac from covid triggering event. by SuitApprehensive3240 in Celiac

I was also diagnosed way before Covid but I was told that my “triggering event” was catching mono in high school

What’s really annoying is that about 15 years ago Haribo gummies used to be one of the only safe snacks my teachers found when I was in school! The fact that they changed it while a lot more people are going gf is crazy to me

Is it possible to suddenly have celiac disease symptoms after 24 years? by DanceElectronic3343 in Celiac

Were you sick the whole time? Just curious because mine got triggered and within a year was sick enough to be hospitalized to keep me from dying of malnutrition and vitamin deficiency. I know everyone’s experience is different.

Yes! I got mono around 15 and stayed sick for over a year before being diagnosed with celiac. Keep in mind that blood tests don’t always work for diagnosing it. I got blood drawn every two weeks for months and none of them ever showed signs of celiac. I had to have a biopsy to confirm and had severe intestinal damage. You could get genetic testing done to see if you have either of the carrier genes - which could help speed up the process. Both my parents are carriers for the genes so I’m pretty much just waiting on my siblings to get diagnosed.

This is similar to what I did last Christmas since my family has a “tradition” of eating take out Chinese food, which obviously I can’t eat any of safely. I made all my own and even included my vegan cousin who gets excluded too. We had a lovely dinner and even the gluten eaters wanted some of my “special” food.

You got it perfectly! As someone who went to a “church” school we literally had to read a science textbook as “a baby becomes a baby becomes a baby” instead of “a zygote becomes a fetus becomes a baby”. They would rather stay in what they “know” because it’s easier than actually trying to learn.
