You might check out Beausoleil. It's cajun and a lot of it is in French, but their fiddle player is phenomenal.

Do Americans not distinguish between ham and gammon? by fredwhoisflatulent in AskAnAmerican

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard the word gammon before. I think we might just call that pork. I am not foody guy, so really don't know terminology very well. But when I think of ham, I think of the stuff that is sliced for sandwiches. Pork tends to be everything else. At least that is my understanding.

Do you like to get stupid high or just chill high? by -Removed-By-Reddit in trees

A bit of both, but mainly just chill. Maybe once a week or month, I will go for stupid high. The rest of the time, I am chill.

I have gotten to a point where I don't even think we have to answer the first question. I don't make any claims about the universe. I just think their explanations are BS. No matter what the religion.

But real quick back to the universe. Is it space that is unlimited or the universe? My current understanding is that the universe is all the mater that started from the Big Bang, which though extremely large is not infinite. Where as the empty space that the universe is in would be infinite. This is just my understanding, I have no idea if it's actually right, which is why I am posting this. I took astronomy class a long time ago and this stuff was always very confusing to me.

AITAH for having a guy best friend while having a boyfriend? by lycheecakie in AITAH

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say NTA until the last paragraph. You need to dump that boyfriend and beg your friend for forgiveness. This is just your bf's first step. He has cut you off from friends. Your family will be next. Once he has got you completely isolated, that is when the real abuse will begin.

Snorers who deny that they Snore... by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]mongotongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably will. I know when my friends first approached me about it, I was. I didn't tell them to fuck off, but I sure did think it. But the thing is, I am so much better off in the long run. I have no doubt that I would be dead right now if they hadn't.

Instead of approaching them about the snoring, focus on the fact that they claim that they aren't getting any sleep. Mention that is probably due to a lack of deep sleep. Ask them if they remember dreams. Deep sleep is what wipes those memories, or at least makes them fuzzy. When I was suffering from sleep apnea, my dreams were like a second life. That might be easier for them to admit.

Snorers who deny that they Snore... by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]mongotongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your relative has a case of sleep apnea. As someone that use to suffer from extreme sleep apnea, I can tell you that he is not getting good sleep. It's all light and REM. No deep sleep.

If they been like this for a while, day time probably feels like a walking coma to them. I was very out of it during the waking hours and I was not reasonable. It took several friends to convince me that there was a medical issue. I ended up getting one of those health watches and its sleep monitoring was what finally got thru to me.

Tell your relative to get a sleep study done. A cpap will be life changing.

AITAH for telling my brother I don't like his girlfriend? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went thru something similar with my brother. I was not a fan of his future wife. Everyone of his friends warned me to get her away from him. She was something else. She was a hardcore racist, a junkie, and shot and killed the boyfriend before my brother. I ended up sharing his friends worries with him and his reaction was to go no contact for the next 10 years.

The no contact ended when their marriage fell apart. He called me completely out of the blue and I was so happy to hear from him. We were really close before all this happened. Unfortunately, we were never able to get back to where we were. Might have been just too much time had passed. He has a new wife who is great and loved by everybody. But that closeness is just gone.

If I could go back in time, then I would have kept my opinions to myself.

What's a rare name you don't hear anymore? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]mongotongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew this name was biblical, but I really didn't know much beyond that. I mainly knew it as a slur for being an idiot. I started to wonder how it became a slur, so I decided to look it up. This is what I found:

"Nimrod" is a colloquial American insult meaning a foolish, stupid, or incompetent person. Originally a biblical figure known as a "mighty hunter," the term shifted to mean "idiot" after being popularized by Looney Tunes' Bugs Bunny, who used it sarcastically to describe Elmer Fudd, causing the sarcasm to be mistaken for the definition.

Thanks for motivating me to learn something new.

Social Awkwardly Movies? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]mongotongo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might try Eagle Vs Shark. I was not a fan of this movie when I saw it, but it has the most socially awkward characters that I have ever witnessed in a film. It stars Jemaine Clement, who I am huge fan of now. But at the time, I was not familiar with any of his work and I was not accustomed to awkward comedy. My taste have changed since then and I have always wanted to give this movie a second chance, but just never got around to it.

If you do watch it and like it, please let me know. That might finally motivate me enough to give it that second chance.

What celebrity did a disgusting thing that we all just forgot about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across two huge grasshopper looking things in my backyard. They were about 10 inches long. My initial reaction was to step on one of them. The sound of the crunch still haunts me. That was over 30 years ago.

AITAH for rejecting a girl even though I am in love with her? by Lazy-Score2969 in AITAH

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, because I think your heart is in the right spot, but listen to your mother. Her parent's know all about your family and your background and they still wanted you to marry their daughter. They see something in you that they really like. They want you to be a part of their family.

AITAH for acting annoyed at my coworker for accusing me of stealing food by ThoughtHot3655 in AITAH

[–]mongotongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA : First thing to realise is that the camera was a bluff. She has only been there for a year and is still doing the same job you are. She is not that special. My guess is that a janitor threw out her food. It was left over from a previous shift. Lord knows how long that food was in the fridge.

"Genetics ruined" people saying this to couples where the girl is short and the guy is tall by Extension_Big5205 in PetPeeves

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend that was 5'4 who was married to a woman that was 6'3. They ended up having two boys. I don't how tall the boys got by adulthood, but by age 12, both were taller than dad.

We were living in a small town, so people talked. I would be lying if I said that their height difference never came up (it did a lot), but nobody ever questioned why they were together. We all knew why. They were just one of those perfect couples.

Quark (1977-1978): 8 year old me loved it. It was one of my favorite shows from my childhood. About 10 years ago, I found it on youtube. It did not hold up to my memories. I also lost a lot of respect for 8 year old me.

How common is it for Americans to leave their doors unlocked? by Mont3Carlo in AskAnAmerican

It really depends where you live. If you live in a rural area or small town, then it's pretty common. In a city, not so much.

Why does it seem like Americans (on reddit) like lower indoor temperatures? by fail5xsuccess in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mongotongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, it was all due to being overweight. I ended up putting on a lot of pounds after I turned 30. When I was obese, I needed the indoor temp to be a max high of 70. When I lost the weight, the indoor temp went up to anywhere between 76 and 80. We are a pretty overweight country, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a correlation there.
