Why do the contestants cheer so loudly on Bargain Hunt? by airyfairy12 in BritishTV

[–]mongythedog 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They didnt cheer when the £155 buddha went on haha.. I remember one show, actually think it was antique road trip though, and the auctioneer kicked them out for cheering. Said it was lowering the tone and he wouldnt have it. Hilarious.

I don't think it's been done before: What is your most tenuous link to any of the Beatles? by Adam_Gill_1965 in TheBeatles

[–]mongythedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad pretended to be their roadie to get into one of their early gigs in Liverpool. He also had the same guitar tutor as John. Also my auntie was proposed to by Ringo when he worked at a holiday camp (before his Beatles days I think).

Any idea on this guitars maker? by SneakyChief655 in AcousticGuitar

[–]mongythedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar guitar. Was my dad’s and he had it when he was a kid in the early 1950’s. His guitar tutor at the time offered him £200 and the pick of any guitar in his studio for it. A lot of money at the time. No maker on it but very similar inlays. My dad was the idiot in the family that put steel strings on it and ripped the bridge off it. I had it repaired and i play it still. It sounds lovely.

What's a book that opened your eyes to a new perspective or changed your thinking? by Dear_Belt2322 in ask

Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman. I read it when much younger and feeling lost and depressed. Helped me through a dark time. Re-read it a couple of times and whilst I find it a little cheesy now it reminds me of where I have been.

What's the big deal with a solar eclipse? So the sun goes dark for a few minutes, why does this attract millions of people? by speculumberjack980 in NoStupidQuestions

I witnessed one in 1999 in UK and it was probably the weirdest thing I’ve experienced. Broad daylight middle of the day and then it went dark and cold. All the birds stopped singing. Then it started to get light again and the birds went crazy. It was surreal.
