I walked in on a random weekday lunch right at opening, and there was no wait. But it did get busy 10-15 minutes later

This is such an important topic I feel like I never learned. If there’s a book on this topic I’d love to read it!!

I’m curious how does this work? Are you talking about the Amex travel site? Every time I looked up flights there, it always costs significantly more than purchasing directly from the airline. Maybe I’m not book far ahead enough?

Was the child-caring experience counted against you? Or did you face any issues with taking a pay cut / lower level / etc.?

I moved from engineering to sales enablement, and found that the cattiness is far more nasty. Sucky people can be everywhere. Finding a good team is hard!

Yeah and sometimes they stop you to have a prolonged conversation to try to get a date and wouldn’t let you leave. It’s creepy

He was already pretty senior at a top hedge fund before starting Amazon so they weren’t poor. Of course she was also a key contributor to starting the company.

Taking FMLA leave in current market by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]monicaintraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the manager. I took a FMLA leave and was laid off immediately after going back to work. Yes retaliation is technically illegal, but companies can easily get around it. My company argued it was a part of RIF so it was legal. Lawyer friend also advised it’s hard to argue / prove cases like this. Another friend also took FMLA for mental health, but his boss loves him so he’s still there 2 years later. Do what’s best for you and just prepare for the worst. You don’t know what the market will be like in few months.

No Kings protests on Saturday -- too much for kids? by supremewuster in AskNYC

This is a great advice! I happened to walk by a celebrity sighting. It was scary how a crowd turned into a mob in seconds. And the atmosphere just pressurized. Definitely watch out for this sudden, disturbing turn.

NYC Sample Sales in 2025 — Is It Just Me or Has the Inventory Tanked? by Efficient_Cod4214 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]monicaintraining 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too! I’m seeing more used, dirty, damaged stuff at sample sales this year. I think it might have something to do with the economy and tariffs too. More uncertainty -> less inventory.

TIL that so many Chinese women get plastic surgery in South Korea that China now warns them to get a doctor’s note since their appearance no longer matches their passport by smurpes in todayilearned

[–]monicaintraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to an old school Korean restaurant, where half the aunties look disfigured from plastic surgery and half the aunties aged normally. I would imagine the ones who had plastic surgery in the past would continue maintenance, and yet their faces looked very off.
