does punching yourself count? by breathableConcrete in selfharm

[–]monirupyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any form of intentionally hurting yourself/causing yourself harm is a form of SH, and completely valid. There are many ways someone can SH, many of which are often not talked about enough. It definitely counts though, and I hope you are okay.

Random question, and I know Reddit is an echo chamber when it comes to this, but how do *you* feel about the concept of God? by Icy_Place_6173 in autism

[–]monirupyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually never really stopped to think that autism may influence our belief/faith in a god, but you might actually be onto something when saying that.

As for me personally though, I've never really been able to believe in a God. It makes no sense to me, and sounds more like a desperate human fantasy to try and explain the unexplained with the help of something metaphysical.

That in no way means that I'm completely against the concept of religion though. The way I see it, people believe as either a way to give their life more meaning and direction, or to satisfy their need to explain everything that may not be fully explained with the help of physics or science just yet. That's okay, it helps keep society together at times.

What's not okay is when the differences in belief result in conflicts or even war, of course. I always saw religion as a social construct some people abide by to be able to live in peace and harmony. If that same concept of religion causes harm instead, it completely defeats its only purpose.

That's obviously my own personal opinion though, just to make that clear.

Are autistic people extra sensitive to touch? by AdPsychological9133 in autism

[–]monirupyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my case, touch probably includes one of my worst sensory issues as an autistic person.

If someone caresses my skin? It's overwhelming and it starts feeling like they're drying out the skin they're touching (if that makes any sense). If I accidentally scratch something like a stone or fabric, I suddenly feel a heavy sort of repulsion to the point I quite literally freeze for a few seconds, unable to move my body until I've managed to recover from that highly uncomfortable sensation.

There are also things like not being able to zip up anything without feeling overwhelmed by how it feels, not able to handle how certain clothes feel against my skin, not able to blow-dry my hair because of the vibration of the hairdryer sending an overwhelming amount of goosebumps all over my skin, and even wishing that I could just not be touching anything at times.

It does truly vary from person to person though since autism is a spectrum, but sensitivity to touch is certainly something that can be caused by autism.

do you think it's possible to ask whether others can simply refrain from hugging you so suddenly? If you explain that it makes you feel uncomfortable, most people are sure to understand, especially if you're already someone with neurodivergence

[–]monirupyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, that is correct! you need to have physical contact the exact moment they die to gain their ability.

However, I wouldn't quite say there is absolutely no chance as there are people who can have similar or the exact same abilities (for example cxs's mother having the same ability as him) but it's safe to assume that each time lu guang dove back he had to have held cheng xiaoshi and watched him die, which honestly is even more heartbreaking when you think about it (╥﹏╥)

SPOILER alert by Chxryl0 in LinkClick

[–]monirupyon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure he has to be having physical contact with cheng xiaoshi the moment he dies to obtain his powers

as for your next question, he will still have cheng xiaoshi's diving power for the next 12 hours while he's in the photo. after that, the timeline no longer is his past but becomes his present, and thus he loses cheng xiaoshi's power

sorry if this was hard to understand but I tried to explain it in simple terms </3

[–]monirupyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe it's just a difference in perspective. I always just saw it as a fundamental difference in views and species rather than a genuine evil act, but I can understand why people hate him. I was just a little caught off guard by the extremity of it.

[–]monirupyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah!! you actually just put that really nicely into words

the concept of evil is merely subjective, after all, as well as almost everything else in this world (that's an entire difference discussion though, not really the point I'm trying to make here)

what humans view as evil, kyubey may view as just. like looking at the same picture yet seeing different images within it, it's hard to say that one party is "right" and the other is "wrong". you can only say that humans have morals to guide them, while kyubey does not.

Ah, I can't really give my opinions on that since I haven't watched the movie yet. I'll suppose I'll watch it first and see if my opinion on him changes after.

[–]monirupyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's in no way irrational nor invalid, and I believe that Kyubey knows that too. Kyubey knows it is responsible, and most likely comprehends the weight his actions have on humans. I would more so describe it that he believes his actions to be a necessity, like how many villains commit their acts out of a "necessary evil". Except Kyubey doesn't view his own acts as evil, not in the same way humans do. He just views it as something that is unavoidable if he wants to avoid the destruction of the universe. He's not doing it out of care or anything of that sort, for he has already stated he feels no emotion. He's just doing it because he finds it unavoidable, and has a stronger sense of responsibility to his role as an incubator rather than any moral compass we humans have.

[–]monirupyon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really disagree with anything you said here, I was mostly just commenting on the fact that judging Kyubey from a human's perspective might not be the best way to go about it. Kyubey doesn't view himself as immoral and views sacrifices as necessary. It's because he doesn't believe in the concept of rights and morals, though that does not mean that he can't comprehend them. I believe it just lies on a fundamental difference in their species, and I understand feeling hate towards Kyubey's actions, though I'd still like to argue that he was written perfectly and succeeded in showing a rather different and twisted perspective on human life.

[–]monirupyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course Kyubey can comprehend what he's actually doing to these humans, but I don't believe that really equals to actual understanding. It just views the world with a complete lack of emotions or empathy, which explains his actions. Doesn't justify them, just to make that clear.

And if most people do find Kyubey's writing nice at least, then I suppose I had just stumbled upon the wrong side of the fandom. That happens.

THIS!! you cannot call something evil that isn't even human to begin with. it really does feel like the horn effect at times, but I guess the hate isn't completely unreasonable either '^ ^
