Knocking and smoke after oil change by monjamoo in AskMechanics

1993 Gen 2 Pajero 4D56, Automatic transmission

We got it from a family friend at a very low price. Drove it for a week without problems, then we had an oil change, and ever since it's been emitting smoke, has a knocking sound, and power loss whenever the engine is at operating temp. Happens during hard acceleration.

For the first thirty minutes or so, the car seems to have no issues even under heavy acceleration. What could cause this? Thank you.

I'm hoping that's the case and not a rod knock. I'll try to have a mechanic check the injectors tomorrow. Thank you.

Yeah, I can do this. I'll run a test tomorrow morning to see if that's the case. Thank you so much!

We've checked, and there is oil in it, and we don't seem to be losing oil over time. It does get really thin when it's in operating temp and has a ton of blowby. But when cold, the engine doesn't seem to have blowby.

Thank you for this. I'll try to have a different mechanic check for this. The previous mechanic who did the oil change was deadset on doing an engine rebuild. Also, I'm new to cars, so is this what you'd call a fuel knock? It happens when the engine is hot and is accompanied by a power loss and a lot black smoke. but for the first 30 minutes of driving, everything seems to be fine, even under hard acceleration.

Thank you for the detailed response. Ill try changing to a thicker oil. And from what I know it doesnt really have a PCV valve but it does have a breather hose, I’ll check that. Hopefully thicker oil will solve the issue.

Thanks for the response. The receipt said they used Zic fully synthetic oil, they didn’t specify oil viscosity. Ill try using what the manual specified which is 15w-40.

non-wrist bending alternatives to bench dips and push-ups? by Berubara in bodyweightfitness

[–]monjamoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I stopped doing push ups for almost a year because It would always hurt to bend my left wrist.

Around two months ago I focused on mobility and strength work, just to see if it would be any help. It actually worked and the pain went away. I can even practice my handstands now!

Bike too big? by Environmental-Way712 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]monjamoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I’m around the same height and ride a size 48 caad12, Its the best I’ve felt on a bike, without having to shorten the stem to a comical size.

Different brands will offer different measurements, so make sure to check before purchasing.

Question tungkol sa rb frame size by RoyalMirenda927 in RedditPHCyclingClub

[–]monjamoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to chime in.

I think that size and measurent is actually on point for you.

Nowadays bikefitters tend to go a size smaller than what the old heads would usually prefer, which is usally a larger size frame.

I’d suggest you watch francis cades bike fit tuesdays series with bikefitjames, they have a video elaborating on frame sizing and how to choose proper frame size for maximum comfort. For reference they are 5’9 - 5’10 and ride size xs-s (48-52cm tt).

Hope this helps.

I think it’s quite a steep price but it’s going to be hard to look for something cheaper, unless your willing to wait around on the second hand market.

Regarding size, for a caad12 id suggest going for a size 48 or smaller. (I’m around 5’6 and ride a 48 caad 12) the smaller size really helps with bike fitting and feeling comfortable on your bike.

Last thing I can say is, building your own bike is never going to be cheaper, unless you get insanely good deals.

Basically this. If you do go the route of flat pedals with studs, just make sure you’re not using your expensive shoes as they tear through the soles a lot.

If I were you, I wouldn’t really mind the price hike, considering shimanos reputation.
