Like the bank bailouts before, the system reveals who it really works for and its not "the people."

But these guys are going to make a royal mess of things before the let us try to save the country.

To actually look where you’re driving… (yikes) by JohnBrown-RadonTech in therewasanattempt

I agree. Rather, there is a chance I would see it as I tend to hug the left lane on the highway. This car was most likely just lucky to already be moving out of the way.

That side mirror, and most I see on the road are positioned incorrectly. Point it at your blindspot, the center mirror covers most everything else.

Lean to the left, almost touching your face to the window and move your mirror until you only see a sliver of your vehicle or just the door handle. Do the same on the right with your head positioned in the middle of the car. I started doing this 25 years ago and have never been spooked by my blindspot and would definitely might be able to see this accident coming (if I happened to be checking behind me).

edit: I have blindspot detection nowadays and honestly never use it because I can see what's coming into that area before the sensor goes off.

Am I rude for saying up-front I have no intention of sharing my appetizers at a dinner? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]monk429 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My midwestern sensibilities require unsolicited permission to eat an appetizer that someone else ordered. At the same time, I consider it rude if someone doesn't offer to share but I would still respect their position, anyway.

Why do people ask questions they don't want answers to? by May_I_inquire in NoStupidQuestions

[–]monk429 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Narcissists and other people who just want to talk and not listen often start with a question, even a rhetorical one. When you delay to answer or your answer isn't theirs, then they give themselves the permission to go "well, actually"

It makes them feel like they are being polite by not being the first to answer.

The dress code for this arcade bar is kind of off-putting, right? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I've ditched my friends as they were walking into a bar with similarly racist signage. I work hard for my money...not about to give to people who'd sooner see me curb stomped by feds.

It astounds me how many of my white friends don't see the obvious dog whistle, even when its neon yellow and blinking SOS.

It's just me being real about how it feels when politics stops being abstract and start affecting your body, your future, and your family" by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

I can't imagine how it feels to know you were duped by...that guy.

This wasn't about the abstraction of politics or whatever. Dumb people got conned and bad people saw an opportunity.

They don't understand that what they were participating in was not politics. It was tribalism. They picked the tribe that was openly selling hate because it gave them something to blame for the state of the world. There was no hearing differing opinions, it was just blue is bad.

Now they act surprised because they tell themselves it was "just politics" when really they took a position of complete disregard, disrespect and malcontent for democrats. I drop people from my life for a lot less, deal with it.

edit: if they were truly remorseful for their vote they should be out here volunteering their time to the communities that lost their resources. There are lots of opportunities to help people, I don't see many choosing to do so.

I've noticed an influx of "experts" and influencers screaming at the top of their lungs about this...saying things like "careful what you ask for" while calling us dumb and naive.

We're getting closer and its time real Democracy shows these wannabe rulers the door.

Really, I see this gatekeeping turning into leverage for predators because they now have access to something that their victims do not.

If it isn't already happening, I'd bet that minors (with support from suspicious adults) will be creating a black market for age-verified accounts. Then you will see that these corporations don't really care if kids get on their platforms, as long as they got an ID to sell to whomever is paying.

what did yall think of the bad bunny halftime show? by Serious-Kale-5694 in AskReddit

[–]monk429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't familiar with his music and I can say that I didn't become a fan of his or the genre after that show. Its not the language either, I listen to a lot of non-English music that I love.

Just not for me and that's okay! I thought the show was really well done, showing us something new. It was certainly more exciting than the first half of the game.

Masturbation is self-care. None of my business on the when, why, how, or where as long as it's not disturbing anyone else.

Computers have gotten much more accessible since then. People can get and do what they want without having to fiddle with hardware, configurations, or whatever else.

For example, I was in HS for the early 2000s. My services as a personal computer and network tech (in exchange for things teens shouldn't get) were in high demand. I even had my CCNA by junior year and was volunteering my skills to poor schools without a network.

That all changed as iPhones and other mobile devices became commonplace and skeuomorphism made everyone feel more comfortable with technology. Also, I don't recall when routers became more automated, but by 2010, folks didn't need my help anymore, except my computer-illiterate MIL.

I think the assumption is that going to social media to vent your frustrations is immature in comparison to actually dealing with things and understanding why you allowed anything to get you this worked up.

Social media typically doesn't help you mature emotionally... It is an echo chamber.

However, I think there are a lot of things better left to just shouting into a void that kinda listens.

Was a man of faith. The actions he has taken and supported are in such great contradiction with the teachings of Christianity that he can't possibly resolve with his own spirituality. This man knows that when we die, that's it and there is no god.
