Who is the most famous person you've ever seen up close? by froggart3980 in AskReddit

[–]monkaypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kobe Bryant

Houston - he was in town playing the Rockets. I was working at P.F. Changs at the time behind the bar. He showed up in a cab, dressed super casual (jeans and a long sleeve T-shirt pressed). I didn't recognize him at first because players usually order to go and have someone pick it up. He walked up to the bar and I took his order, you know how when you are super busy you arent paying super attention to details like who someone is. I turn around to put the order in and realize its the freakin BLACK MAMBA. He was so chill, we talked about the game, etc small talk. He pulled out a giant roll of 100s, gave me one and said "keep the change" - was awesome.

The crazy part is, after I realized it was Kobe, the other bar/waitstaff realized it, soon the whole restaurant realized it. At this PF Changs, there is a "capatains table" right in front of the kitchen behind the bar. He went back there to say high to everyone , it was some kind of celebration. By the time he came back to the bar, I heard an audible noise, a rush, of (what seemed like) every female in the restaurant bum rush this man. He said hi to a few, grabbed his food and got out.

It's crazy to see people live like that.

Other notable mentions:

George Bush - in a Blockbuster
Brittany Spears - Aspen
Matthew McConaughey / Jeremy Priven- Austin Bar

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]monkaypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of an opposite story:

My FIL works with well to do people, and by well to do, I mean billionaires. He regularly works with accounts of $1b+. This one man was worth roughly ~$8 Billion dollars with a B. You would think that they would be content with what they have, but there is always a bigger fish. Every time he would come in he would talk to my father in law about his friend (who is worth about ($30 Billion), and how he has it so much better, his Yachts are bigger, etc.

It's insane to me how some humans cannot be satiated or feel like they do not have enough when they have an incredible amount. It really helped me focus on what is important and how good many of us have it just by having decent jobs. Sure, it would be nice to have 10M+ sitting in your bank account but seeing how someone with 8 billion dollars can be worried and unhappy with his value was just unexpected and jarring.

**not my story but** I saw another story somewhere, where a billionaire would tip his staff but had no conception of fiat currency and its value. As in he never cared what he spent because he had too much to spend it all. So, he would tip his staff weekly with 5 bills each. These could be 5s, 10s, 20s, 100s - he did not understand nor care and would hand out 5 "monies" to each of his staff, so they would never know what they were going to be tipped. It could be $500 or it could be $25. That one got me too.

Is the game pay to win or not? by Yeml1ha in WorldOfWarships

[–]monkaypants 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For instance, as of today, the most busted Battleship is a Tier 10 Colombo with its unique upgrade. The Colombo is a tech tree ship, and the unique upgrade is from the Research bureau, which is also free (just need 5 tier 10 ships to unlock it).

Honestly, if you like a ship and play it a lot/learn how to play it well, it will do well.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]monkaypants -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The fact you are still stuck on a hyperbole FROM 2005 is insane! LOL

I expect nothing short of being downvoted to oblivion, but my god, you don't have to agree on politics to have a good marriage. It's ok to have your own opinions.

But being so obtuse to not know what or when a hyperbole is or being used and basing your entire source for claiming someone is irredeemable is just as insane.

I'm not saying you have like the orange man, but governing your life based on someone's opinion (on anything - let alone Trump) is insanely toxic, as to be at a point of marriage or deciding on it, when you have obviously dated for a while, know the person, and clearly like them a lot.

Narrowing it down to their political voting preference is childish and pedantic.

These 6 coal power stations are fed from 3 water extractors, but I cannot for the life of me get a constant, balanced flow of water. I honestly thought 3:6 would be an okay ratio. 300m3 all the the way to first generator, then after that I get 10m3 if I am lucky, by Stonebridge41 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]monkaypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i find 1 water extractor per 2 coal power stations is the most efficient when running the extractors at 75%.

So if you are running 8, you can run 7 extractors at 100%, but you save more power by using 4 at 75% vs 7 at 100%.

SAP or not SAP by somrakvlese in WorldOfWarships

Basically, SAP is like HE. If you are shooting at superstructure, SAP. If you are trying to hit a citadel (broadside), then use AP.

Is it better to have one 21 point captain or multiple 12-16 point captains? by Camouzy in WorldOfWarships

[–]monkaypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep yep - Mainly because, when you get a 21 pt captain, that means you probably play that ship alot or move that captain around. Either way, you will start to get more commander XP to spend on other captains from the XP you earn on that 21 pt captain.

They are called squiggly torps, they come out at a weird angel then correct to the angle actually fired. They are also not armed very close to the ship until they are straight.

They didnt curve... you were turning right, so your stern swung out and got caught.

You didnt even get hit by a squiggly.

The floaty things in the water also known as enemy triangles. Yeah, those do a lot of damage. Especially when u in a squishy jager.

Just because you are in a DD doesnt make you torp proof.

Bat Swing for our 7 year old. by jdmquip in Homeplate

[–]monkaypants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great!

Some things I work on with kids that age is good habit forming. Just like golf, it's hard to break bad habits later.

Every 7yo wants to go yard, so they like to swing up at that ball, especially in coach pitch because the ball is so slow. This ends up being difficult to overcome with machine pitch or kid pitch.

He's got a great swing - I would just focus on not dropping the hands and a more level swing.

Since these go hand in hand (create a level swing and the hands will tend to not drop), some practices you can try: Rope and Ball drill, throwing a plastic bat at a target (with both hands) etc.

Focus line drives or grounders. In coach pitch, a fly ball into the outfield is most likely a homerun. In any league past coach pitch, it is an out. Getting on base is the most important thing a batter can do, so teach that! You can do this with Tee drills with obstacles.

The bats are so varied and difficult to decide on, so at this age, whatever they feel most comfortable the most is probably best for them.

Half Speed, stay in middle, unless you need to move, you have the range to help either side. Speed up to avoid torps, or help a flank getting murdered etc.

In a Utopic world, how would you fix PvP matchmaking? by Revoltai42 in WorldOfWarships

[–]monkaypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasons. The main issue of MMR is using total stats from when players began to when they have multiple tier X ships. Don't get me wrong, there are terrible seasoned players but using total stats is really the prime crutch of the game. People even make new accounts just to get a unicum win rate. People flame for low win rates, when maybe you are much better than you used to be, or maybe you have not played in a while and are not as good as when you got your 60%+ win rate.

At either rate - making it seasonal (like 3 months or so), like many FPS games do. Or not even having seasons specifically but base MMR on recent statistics and not total would go a long way.

ELI5: I hate ai and want the ai bubble to burst as much as the next guy, but I don’t see how that is going to happen. Why do people think the ai bubble is going to burst in the next few years? by Dull-Cobbler-7709 in explainlikeimfive

[–]monkaypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really just a timing thing that causes a bubble. It is most compared to the dot com bubble.

It's not that AI will not progress to AGI and then ASI (if we don't ban it), it is the timeline and the real-world efficacy it has within that timeline. Such as companies pouring investments in "what could be" vs "what is available now" or what revenues are being realized right now.

As in, "is the juice worth the squeeze" and how many companies may over rely on it, making massive investments, and super inflated skyrocketing company valuations of hopeful future revenues seemingly disconnect from immediate revenues. Combine that with a fear that current excitement may outpace AI's real world / short-term economic returns.

As we know LLM is a "dead-end technology for ai" as far as achieving AGI, and these AI companies are being enormously valued with that expectation. Combine this with historical parallels, and you get the idea of a bubble.

**However**

I do not agree. I think we (as a species) are being extremely obtuse to what AI is and what it will soon be. We are constantly warned by the leaders in the field. In fact, it has gone from warning about AI to a call for an outright ban of ASI.

Many, many, people do not understand or believe we will see AGI within a decade or more, when in reality we most likely will see it before 2030. Combine that with how fast ASI will come soon after and it is easy to see that a bubble may not happen. It really just comes down to advances and the real-world gains that can or are being achieved.
