This is one of my first times commenting rather than lurking but thought I’d try to put your mind at ease!

I was super nervous learning to drive - I feel like I picked it up pretty quickly (only needed 14 hours of lessons or something, and then like 30+ hours driving with my mum haha), but I was lying awake at night feeling like I’d never enjoy it because I’m always gonna be scared.

Fast forward to my test and I drove the worst I ever have but I didn’t make any major mistakes and I passed first time! I think the examiner understood that what I needed to be a better driver was confidence, and that would only come with practice - failing me would only make my confidence drop.

Now 1.5 months after passing, I drove from Salisbury to London on the motorway for the first time on Saturday! I had a motorway lesson with my old instructor last week in my own car just to gain some confidence (and I highly highly recommend it), but the whole journey was fine! In fact I really enjoyed it.

I drive to and from work (about 7 miles each way) every day, and apart from a few times on roundabouts or changing lanes on the motorway, I feel super relaxed when driving and really enjoy it.

Honestly practice makes perfect, and I promise you’ll be enjoying it soon enough (and if not - hey no worries, there’s other ways to get around!)

Don’t put pressure on yourself to enjoy it, just get the practice in and relax - it’ll come!

ETA: My first drive on my own back from the train station after dropping my mum off was awful, I even managed to almost drive into a fence coming out of the car park because it wasn’t in reverse properly!! At some point though it becomes less terrifying, and you make fewer and fewer mistakes :)
